Georgia State will play Tennessee in college football

Georgia State will get its first taste of Rocky Top in 2012.

That’s right, the Panthers will play at Tennessee in college football in 2012.

The game will be played Sept. 8 and Georgia State will receive $500,000. The Panthers received more than $425,000 for their trip to play Alabama in 2010.

The game will be another in a challenging schedule for GSU. The Panthers will begin CAA play in 2012 as well.

The Volunteers will play N.C. State in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game at the Georgia Dome to open the 2012 season, and will face the Bulldogs later in the season.

Also this is pretty awesome (though we’ve heard rumors about it for a long time now). Can’t wait to beat Tennessee!

Yikes- I like the idea of getting 500K but it’ll be embarrassing. I didn’t mind the game at Alabama last year- there was novelty in that. Next year we need to be thinking FCS playoffs, not FBS blowouts.

Unless our point in FCS play isn’t for playoffs but to build to something bigger…

[...] Tennessee Volunteers have added the Georgia State Panthers to their 2012 football schedule, the AJC reported today.Tennessee will host Georgia State at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville on September 8, [...]

We’ll lose no doubt but it will still be a fun experience. Hopefully because of the short drive and being in year 3, we can have a decent crowd up there.

Yeah we’ll lose big but it will be a great experience for our players and we pay the bills at the same time! Not to mention it will be a easy trip to make for all of us! Go Panthers!

Why is Georgia State avoiding Georgia Southern (number 1 ranked team in the nation) for future scheduling?

Nice payday for GSU…but the Vols will win by at least 55. I have a feeling that UT beats UF Saturday…

A good game for GSU to have on the 2012 schedule. Getting exposure and paying bills. I hope to see the Panthers improve from their game against ‘Bama and hope to make the road trip. It should be a fun atmosphere.

Can’t wait to make the trip. It is surreal watching GSU play against the big boys with 100K other football fans, even if you know you are going to get beat down.

Awesome exposure for the program and check to go along with it.

GSU vs. GSU is becoming quite the heated little verbal rivalry. I’m seeing plenty of you all begin to talk to each other like GT and U(sic)GA bicker about everything from what color the sky is to how many times they’ve played each other. What’s gonna happen when KSU gets a team? We could have all kinds of nice little FCS rivalries popping up around here. Interesting…

Uggg…how the mighty have fallen. Tennessee used to be known for playing at least one big tier nonconference game each year and a couple of respectable opponents after that.

I’m not trying to offend anyone, but 1-AA or FCS as I guess they are called now, should not be playing 1-A schools. I mean, I know its a nice payday, but what does GSU gain by getting pounded by Alabama or TN. I don’t think that really helps anyone.

Oh well, Go Vols

The SEC has just agreed that if Georgia State beats Tennessee, Georgia State will be invited to join the SEC.

New in-state rivalry with UGA? Tech could always play Kennesaw or Southern Poly instead…

Slow down there, CTDowntown. Why don’t yall work your way up to beating a CAA team first? ODU blew yall out while GT was absolutely burning Murfreesboro to the ground (and don’t even begin to think you could take on MTSU if you can’t beat an FCS team like ODU). So, no, Tech will continue to be no worse than second-best in this state in its worst years.

Point of Order….This saturday the two premier D2 teams in georgia will meet in Albany. Valdosta State (2-0) visits Albany State (2-0) in a non-conference game. These games can happen if both parties want them to play. I hope the GSU’s will play soon. Go Panthers and Blazers.

By next year we very may be experienced enough to have a couple scoring drives against The Vols. Now if only we could prevent CBC from playing our 4th string quarterback the whole game for absolutely no reason.

Let me set you all straight – GSU will beat those Tenessee Volunterians – it’s a verifiable sure thing – practically a fact. And after joining the SEC in 2014 GSU will be a ranked team in 2015 and be in the Chickin-Filet bowl the next year. There’s really no way you can logically dispute it – you ‘ll just have to trust me on this one.

The reason Bo has been playing QB is cause Little and Hill suspended. They might be dressing but they are still suspended. Georgia Southern doesn’t want to play State is cause they have nothing to gain out of it. If State were to beat Southern then it would set them back on the recruiting trail. Georgia State will eventually be better than Southern but not right now. Maybe in like 2 or 3 years.

SEC schools play FCS schools annually. We are an FCS right now and are more than happy to take the 500k.

It also helps in recruiting when recruits ask, “Who do you play?”

The answer is we play at Tennessee next year.

That matters.

If Georgia State reported attendence at 11,000 + last Saturday when they get to Knoxville it will seem like a million in the stands. Who are they trying to fool with their game numbers? Georgia State is the only school in America that puts their band behind the home bench from 40 to 40 yard line to make up for the lack of fans. Jacksonville State will show them what 11,000 fans look like this weekend.

Southerners and football rivalry. I read this blog every night and chuckle (at you not with you). I do admit it is odd seeing GA Southern get on the Ga State reporters blog to chest bump about who the real GSU is….keep it coming folks. The ‘yankees’ around the water color love this discussion. We are interested in how this all shakes out. Will the Gov step in? Will we have to send National Guard troops back down south to protect the “real” GSU students? Who was really the real Duke boy Bo or Luke? Awesome…simply great
