3 things about Donald Russell and other news

Here’s a feature about Georgia State running back Donald Russell and the added dimension he gives the Panthers’ offense.

Here are three things about Russell that you may not know.

1. He’s a shy guy. “I wouldn’t say I don’t like attention, but I’m more of a family person.”

2. He likes to eat. “My favorite is mom’s spaghetti.”

3. He likes to rollerskate, something he learned to do growing up in Florida. “I might regret saying that, but I love to rollerskate. I did it a lot at Kentucky with my teammates.”

Georgia State will have three quarterbacks available for Saturday’s game against Old Dominion. Bo Schlechter will start, with Drew Little and Kelton Hill (one-game suspension) backing him up. Little still hasn’t been allowed to speak to the media.

“We have all hands on deck,” coach Bill Curry said.

Schlechter, who passed for 196 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 27 more yards, impressed Monarchs coach Bobby Wilder, who said it’s rare to see a college quarterback in his first start check down his receivers on play, which Schlechter did frequently in Friday’s win against Clark Atlanta.

The team emerged mostly unscathed from the win against Clark. Linebacker Mark Hogan, who missed the game as a precautionary measure, is good to go. Curry said he wants to watch offensive lineman Clyde Yandell this week before he decides if he will play for the first time this season.

Good to know all QB’s are available this game in case Bo needs a break or we need a change of pace QB to throw some different looks at them. Hill did a great job of that last season.

Thanks Doug! DR is a beast. Such a different runner but great compliment to the quicker guys like Evans and Lee.

This game is going to be awesome, and having pretty much “all hands on deck” for GSU should really help us win this game! Go Panthers and Doug keep up the awesome job, all of the Panther fans appreciate your insights.

Donald is a perfect fit in our offense. Hopefully we can dominate the lines and put DiMarco on his heels. No matter what it should be a good game. If we execute I believe we should win.
GO PANTHERS!!

DR gave that kid from Clark a nice Paytonesque stiff arm on that 22 yd TD. He’s a Brinks Truck.

I hope you can repeat your attendance success this weekend and draw another 26,000 fans. That was impressive. ODU is a good team and travels well. It is a long drive but they should bring many fans with them. After not having football for 63 years the Hampton Roads community has really fallen in love with this team.

I don’t rollerblade, I rollerskate. You know, the kind with 4 wheels.

We could sure use Clyde this week as ODU’s defensive line is huge strength. They have a couple of guys that could have entered the NFL draft last year.

Glad to see that Ben McClane is well on his way to a redshirt.

Thanks for the update Doug. I am loving Donald Russell on this Panthers team..It’s not surprising that he likes to roller skate, he is such a smooth runner. The great thing is that runs smooth but with lots of power.

Great piece! Although, am I the only one that is nervous about The Donald being on roller skates? CBC needs to confiscate those wheels ASAP!!!

Donald is indeed a beast on the field but off the field is a true gentleman.

Better on roller skates than a scooter, that’s what Coach Curry told me.
