Baseball team has important series

Georgia State’s baseball team can secure a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament by winning its three-game series against George Mason.

Will Campbell (8-2, 2.85 ERA) will take the mound in Thursday’s 6 p.m. opener at Panthersville against the Patriots (20-30-1, 6-21).

The Panthers (35-18, 15-12) are in fourth and have made the four-team conference tournament the past two seasons, winning it in 2009. The tournament will be held next week in Wilmington.

Friday’s game is at 6 p.m. Charley Olson (5-4, 2.85 ERA) will take the mound. Saturday’s regular season finale is set for 1 p.m. Justin Malone (7-1, 4.09 ERA) will pitch that one.

In addition to securing a spot in the tournament, the Panthers have a chance to set a record for wins in the regular season. The school record for wins is 39, set in 2009.

The Panthers have the CAA’s second-highest team batting average at .312, while the pitching staff’s 4.35 ERA is second.

Thursday’s and Friday’s games will be on radio on 88.5 FM.

First. This should be an easy series. George Mason is currently last in the CAA which bodes well for State, but I’ve seen crazier things happen than us giving them this. Good luck Panthers, you’re almost there

Let’s talk a little football. Georgia State and Valdosta State both have Lambuth on their 2011 schedules and Lambuth is closing its doors. Yes…….You are reading my mind. What a great opportunity for GSU and VSU to play. Both schools need a game and it is an easy 4 hours on I-75 for either school. Okay….we will come to the dome. Let’s contact our AD’s and make this happen. Go Panthers and Blazers !!!!
