Georgia State announced its spring football award winners today. But there’s a notable catch. For the first time in its short history, the team has named permanent captains. They are Arthur Williams, Christo Bilukidi and Akeen Felder. In the past, the team just named captains for the games.
Coach Bill Curry said he tabbed the trio because “all those guys are really outstanding leaders.”
Bilukidi, who will be a senior and is a defensive tackle, is the team’s defensive captain.
Felder, who will be a redshirt junior, is the special teams captain.
Williams, who will be a senior and tight end, is the offensive captain.
Curry said leadership is the area the team improved most in during the spring. I’ll have more on that later.
Here are the award winners, with a few thoughts from Curry:
Offense: Ramell Davis, OL. He came in as a string bean. Now he’s got a little bit of heft and has improved his technique.
Defense: Allen McKay, OLB. He reached a whole new level.
Offense: Ben Jacoby, C.
Defense: Akeen Felder, OLB.
Offense: Jordan Giles, WR. He had the best spring of anyone.
Defense: Mark Hogan, OLB.
Offense: Arthur Williams, TE
Defense: Kalan Jenkins, DL
Head Coach’s Award
Offense: Albert Wilson, WR
Defense: Demarius Matthews, CB
