Game thread, Georgia State-Lambuth

Linebacker Olufemi Opanubi and safety Fred Barnes will not start. They were late to a team meeting this week. Brad Chafoy and Jocquez Fears will start in their place, respectively. They’ll likely play after a quarter.

Crowd is fairly sparse. I write at 12:53, about 14 minutes before the game. I’d bet there’s maybe 2000 people in the stands. The student section is maybe a quarter full and I think I’m being generous. We’ll see who filters in from the tailgates. I guess Lambuth isn’t quite the draw I thought it was. (kidding)

Game on.

end of first quarter. Lambuth up 6-0 on touchdown on opening drive. GSU’s offense is having trouble gaining traction. penalties aren’t helping.

Ken, I realize that Lambuth is not a push over, but is GSU able to do anything with consistency? I was listening on the radio and it seemed that they were out of sync the entire 1st quarter.

touchdown, GSU. WR Danny Williams caught an option pass from RB Rosevelt Watson for a 39-yard score. 13-9 pending PAT.

GSU is having too much television competition. What’s your best estimate on the attendence?

This team has a ways to go, it appears. Lambuth is a good NAIA team, but one that has a new coach and lost almost half its roster because of the school’s money problems. Offense struggled a lot. Defense didn’t tackle well.

Georgia State loses to NAIA Lambuth (just 450 students and a school in financial trouble). 65 scholarships vs. 24.

You call yourself I-AA GSU, really?

Ken, I told you last week that Ron Dickerson is a coaching legend. This is a setback losing to an broke NAIA program, but Dickerson is a magician – that’s why he is a legend. Bill Curry is now 22 games under .500 all-time as a coach.

Maybe GSU should drop down to NAIA, don’t belong in I-AA.
Basketball is also a joke.

Kevin, seriously, get a grip. This is the second game EVER. Of course there are going to be growing pains. Lambuth is a good NAIA program. While GSU certainly has more talent, man-for-man, there is NO institutional knowledge about what it takes to win football games. I don’t care what Coach Curry has tried to do, nothing will help this team battle adversity like working through it in games. I am a season ticket holder, and this will not detour me from keeping those tickets. We will see how far away we are again next week with JSU. They are #5 as of last week.

@Southern – really? Are you Eagles fans going to sit on the opposing side of every game we play just because we became a university before you did? Classy.

You know, I am glad we lost as I am not sure I could have survived another Gatorade dunking. Hoping we lose next week too! Who are we playing, Agnes Scott?

GSU Who?

Lambuth? Don’t want to hear about good NAIA team. Second game, first game or last game. It was LAMBUTH. Many of you haven’t even hear of this third-rate college until it appeared on your schedule. This college is broke! GSU has about nine Div. I FBS transfers while Lambuth has a bunch of also unwanted players with a two-time loser as a coach. This guy (Ron Dickerson) couldn’t cut it in the Southwest Atlantic Conference at Alabama State. GSU this was pathetic. Basketball. Football. Same GSU. LOSERS!!!! LMAO!

You can say what you want about Lambuth but by beating you today we just tied your all time win total. We may be small and have financial problems but we just wore you out today. Dispute that!

Just to be clear LambuthEagle, it was a GSU detractor obnoxiously slamming your team and school, not a Panther. Good game on Sat.
