What the 6A girls rankings should look like right now:

1. McEachern
2. Norcross
2. Archer
2. Parkview
5. Mountain View
6. Hillgrove
7. Westlake
8. Douglas County
9. Mill Creek
10. North Gwinnett

McEachern and Archer have the most talent. Parkview has the best combination of experience and talent. Norcross has the most potential to improve from now until March. It should be fun.

Nobody from 5 on down can win state. Not saying that can’t play a great game and beat one of the top four in the playoffs. It’s just that they can’t beat two of the top four in the playoffs, which is what would likely be required.

If Eagles Landing is the 4th best team in AAAA, then it must really be down. They lost to an all freshman Fulton Leadership Academy that doesn’t even play a region schedule.

Help me understand how Westlake is #5 in 6A?…they have a better record than anyone in front of them (12-1), they all have 4, 4, 2, and 2 losses, a piece…. they have beaten 3 of the top ten in 4A (#5 Jonesboro, #3 Fayette Co., #8 South Atlanta(who should be higher), and #7 MLK in 5A…their only loss is by 5pts to the #9 team in the country Lincoln(Brooklyn, NY)…who by the way beat Wheeler by 16…Talk to me!!!

POOSTER, I have seen Brunswick girls play twice, they are a legit number eight in AAAAAA. The big four will not want to play them, they are good and well coached.

Hoopsknowledge, Tifton’s only two loses have as you put it came against nationally ranked teams. They lost to Montverde #1 in the nation and Lake Highland prep ranked #5 in the state of Florida and 82 nationally. Tift is deserving of their spot. Update on Tift record 12-2, 2-0 in region play.

Pope, not really stepping out on a ledge with that prediction. There is a 0.01% chance someone other than GAC wins AA.

Westlake Boy’s should no doubt be ranked #2 behind the talented Wheeler squad. Who would have thought Westlake would be better with the subtraction of All-World PG Tony Bagtas, Andre’ Elam and problem child Kejuan Johnson. But they are because they are playing as a team. They will be hard to bet this year, tomorrow game against Douglas Co. will be the early test. Remember these names Tyler Williams, Raymond Saunders, Dominic Joseph and Jared Heard they guys are ballers. Go Lions!

Eagle’s Landing Christian #10 class A girls? Have you seen this team play? Are you just looking at their record? No way this team ends up in the top 20 unless you are going by their record. This is a weak team playing an early weak schedule.

1. Holy Innocents’
2. St. Francis
3. SW Atlanta Christian
4. George Walton Academy
5 thru 10 – It’s a toss up but do not include Eagle’s Landing Christian

1. Holy Innocents’ vs 2. St. Francis on 2/1, mark your calendars…

Class A Girls (Private):

1. St. Francis
2. Holy Innocents’
3. SACA
4. George Walton
5. Darlington
6. Mt. Paran
7. Calvary Day
8. Paideia
9. Greenforest
10. ELCA

St. Francis is #1 until someone knocks them off. Holy Innocents’ is VERY good this year. The Holy Innocents’/St. Francis game should be a good one. SACA can beat anyone on the right night. George Walton is good inside and just may go undefeated. Darlington is solid and has proved they can play with anyone over the last few years. Mt. Paran has two very good players and some solid role players to go with them.

DRE-MAN, I am not saying Westlake is not a good team, but who thought Tift would be so good after loosing the Georgia player of the year in Brannen Green who is playing for Kansas, and Donnel Tuff who is playing for Gardner-Webb. Tiff has beaten #7 AAAA Westover, #1 AAA Savannah, #7 AAA Buford, and #8 A Wilkinson and 2-0 in region play. I am just saying we can argue also that Tiff should be #2

Good feedback. Mostly constructive, which is always good. :)

Westlake’s boys perhaps should be higher. Not much to separate the top five teams. Perhaps we were affected by the key graduation losses, especially Bagtas. Will keep an eye on the Lions.

re: Tucker’s boys – Very good argument that they should be #1. Tucker’s victory over Columbia has not been been posted on MaxPreps, as it should be (per GHSA rules), so perhaps not everyone giving input into these rankings had all the facts. Rankings could change next week. We also hope to have the W-L records next week. We’re in catch-up mode from the holidays, and so apparently are some of the schools in reporting their scores.

Montverde Academy of Florida is the consensus No. 1 team in the country. I find it interesting that Montverde has played so many Georgia teams, and beaten each rather handily. (Note that Jaylen Patterson, a member of Milton’s 2012 championship team, plays for Montverde). Scores vs. GA teams:

Wheeler 74-46
Norcross 84-47
Tift County 76-53
Milton 77-42
South Atlanta 98-39

St. Pius girls have played a very difficult schedule and has a 12-3 record. They will be hard to beat from this point on with the teams they have faced and they have the nicest back court in all of girls basketball.

Too bad Patterson is still not a member of Milton’s team; that team was going to run the table in Georgia. Sure would have beaten Wheeler and Norcross; BTW one of Wheeler’s starters and 2 key members of Norcross were at Milton.

Please look at St. Francis Girls strength of schedule thus far before claiming anyone ahead of them. Holy Innocents is a very good team, but they’ve only played 1 good team in Wesleyan, and won’t play another until Feb 1st. When you are knocking off 5A schools in the state (Tucker/Stephenson/Drew), and then knock off the 2 of the top 3 schools in Alabama (6A), then you deserve number 1. SACA is the one team everyone is worried about. I commend them on how they’ve played with only 5-6 girls.

I haven’t seen Brunswick and they may be better than I think, but based upon what they have done against teams and what those teams have done against other teams, they don’t appear to be a top 10 team as of yet. They don’t have any quality wins and the one decent team they played (Washington County), they lost to.

No disrespect intended to Washington County, but yes, when compared to top 10 teams in 6A, which is the context they were being mentioned, they are just decent. They could play with and beat some teams in the bottom of the 6A top 10. I think that makes them decent, but certainly not anything for a team without a quality win (Brunswick) to hang its hat on — by losing to them — when trying to break into the 6A top 10.

I have saw Riverdale Hs play several times this year. They have one of the best 1-2 scoring options( Quincy January and Abdouliue Williams) in class 4A. Before it is all said and done they will be ranked in their class.I believe they are a potiential final four. I have seen several of the top class 4A teams, this squad plays solid defense, rebound wells, and is very athletic in the post. They are 12-3 with good discipline to make a real run for a state title.

If anyone has noticed that the State third round home game did not change location. GHSA flip the bracket upside down which put the H on the bottom of the bracket but also keep the home game with same regions as last year. So what is GHSA trying to pull with this so call change.

Nice to know that the state is beginning to recognize Boy’s hoops in Savannah. Much respect for Savannah High. Number one in the state AAA and deservedly so. The AAA Championship will not leave Savannah. Decent teams all over the state, but do they REALLY want to see Savannah teams? Calvary-BALLERS, Jenkins-BALLERS, Savannah High-BALLERS, and Sol C. Johnson-Hmmmm…. That’s G!!!!!

Savannah high, Jenkins, and Johnson will be a team to deal with come state playoff time. No one can say who will win cause we dealing with kids. Grades, injury etc can change a season let look at a small city with ballers in it. K.G (sav high) Alex (sav high) kasey Mitchell ( sav hig) Jovante spivey(sav high) Jamal Norman (sav high) Chris Cokley (sav high) all played college or playing or will play college ball. Tim Q(Johnson) and Muhummad( Johnson) Greg M (Johnson) one other guy for Johnson play for Equire college forgot his name. My point scouts need to see more Sav kids play we have ballers down here weather is The High winning the region and the state or Johnson and Jenkins winning or going to the state Sav is a hotbed for basketball now let put more of these young men in college so they can get an education and get jobs to pay taxes and b productive pep in society and not has been at the age of 20 showing a state ring that cant buy a cup of coffee.

Team SAV…
Pump your brakes, you called off a number of athletes attending college yet failed to mention that there are others that are attending school… not necessarily on basketball scholarships. You make mention of putting more into college, being a has been at 20, in addition to flashing rings that can’t buy a cup of coffee. You may want to look up Social Darwinism, have a claer understanding that college is not for everyone, and realize that at 20 years old the world is still your oyster. Oh by the way, you must not have a ring because it has nothing to do with what you can buy… the aesthetic appeal is in the legacy it represents. In closing, stop being so critical of what our student/athletes are doing, what our coaches are doing, and what our schools are doing to insure the future growth and development of these young men AND WOMEN. Look in the mirror and speak to what it is that YOU are doing to make happen what you espouse… That’s G!

Tucker boys played well during the holiday tournament but they should not be ranked #1, after all it was a tournament they hosted. Columbia has some kinks to work out before the meat of our region schedule starts, not clicking on all cylinders yet so don’t puff your boys chest up too much. Beat Miller Grove Friday and maybe you’d get some #1 votes!

Coach G I have two rings one in football and one in track and I have a 2 CIAA football rings. I also help with parent university and have coach little league for about 9 yrs and had reading program at a grammar school oh yes I have a MBA and my kids all have college degrees and I’m black HBCU. If you are Coach G why after Sav Hig beat you for the region your team left sav st and never came out. Why you don’t shake the players hands before the game. At one time 70% of our boys did not get a diploma. So they can play basketball but no higher education. But whom am I talking to. Tried to recruit Jamal and Chris from the high and Gant from Effiham. Did we forget the investergation by the board. Tim(Sav Hig) DJ (Sav Hig) Rico (Calv Day) Greg (Cav Day) you seen four of your starter from last year state team came from different schools but u don’t recruite . If Cokely didnot get hurt and Spivey was not hurt with both wrist hair line fracture the high would b state champion and u kno the high is better than Johnson this year. Darwin please MLK injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Tim Jordan has two state rings and you got one and Jordan never wears his cause he used to winning. So stop recruiting and we wont talk about last year SAT for a player and his GA grad test. Did Darwin say everybody play basketball nope. But I expect that Sol C Johnson. Now that is G.

Savannah

January 10th, 2014
10:16 am

Team Sav…You are talking merely STREET COMMITTE stuff and thats unfortunate. As it relates to Tim, he was slated to come to Johnson as a baby his roots are steeped in SCJ tradition. Lets not forget about his late uncle Arthur attending SCJ, and winning the State Title in 92. However, due to the large enrollment numbers at Johnson, he was forced to attend Savannah High along with several other students. At a certain number of students Sol C. Johnson was forced to stop taking students at thats how he ended up at Savannah High, not because he wanted to. So kill that noise…

Greg was also a young man with SCJ roots…So kill that noise.

I don’t know the history as it relates to Rico and DJ, but I do know that parents have the right to move their child as they deem necessary and fit. The student can not be enrolled at any school without parental persmission. So often a student transferring is misrepresented as recruiting…and that is why the governing body of the GHSA has a stringent process in place. And with the number of transfers that have come into Savannah High over the years, one should be very careful when talking about transfers.

Team SAV you sound like a woman with pearls complaining that her friend down the street has diamonds. Furthermore, as a lettered and accomplished as you claim to be, you certainly come across as one being inclined to make excuses for the shortcomings of your beloved Savannah High.

This is my last comment on this but I will answer you Savannah. You make me laugh I never singled out a player you did that. When Johnson lost to Peachtree Ridge G said 60% of his players was taking the SAT that y they lost. Go back and look at the comments, so if Cokley and Spivey not hurt then the High chances are better that why G said what he said about PR. Excuses please that the first game Johnson won in the last couple years with meaning. You bring up a 92 ship ok you got 2 Savannah high has 11 and 16 final four apperances. The last 3yrs 3regions champion ships beat Johnson twice 3 holidays tourments champions and Johnson was in two of them. Right now we the AAA number one team and beat Johnson 58-51 on yall home game. This is not a colloquial text so excuse the grammar and spelling colloquial means formal if you must know. Roots because of a uncle that is comical. Because someone kin went to a school that don’t make them have to go each person should be they own man or woman. As far as Street committee call Chatham co. ask was it not looking into Johnson trying to get Jamal N., Chris C., and Gnat from Effiham call the AD and ask please. I’m not going to disrespect other AAA teams and say the High will win cause I don’t know. But what I do know and I give u your ring last year the High is better and will go father than Sol C. As for sounding like a woman that is a gender bias statement and believe me I’m all MAN. Come back on say the last word come march you will be Quiet. This was really asking scouts to look at all our kids in sav but u and G made it into a emotional unlettered unsophisticated form. All that I have is true send me your email and ill send you a picture of my rings and degrees oh yes and it summa cum laude. If you know what that mean.
