Predictions: Go with McEachern, Norcross in the evenly matched AAAAAA semis

The picks get tougher each week in the playoffs, and none have been more difficult than this week’s semifinals, particularly in AAAAAA and AAAAA. McEachern and North Gwinnett have escaped the past two weeks on the road, so look for McEachern to take advantage of being at home and knock off the top-ranked Bulldogs. It’s tempting to pick Colquitt County as well, but it’s hard to imagine a championship game in the highest classification without a Gwinnett County team involved, so I’m sticking with Norcross. I’ll take Creekside and Gainesville in the AAAAA games, although it makes me uneasy to pick against Tucker.

THE WEEKEND PREDICTIONS

I like N Gwinnett and Colquitt. Both teams are overdue to win a state championship; of course no team is more overdue than McEachern. hard to believe with their facilities, money from the grant, and athletes, they have never won a state championship in football or boys basketball. Maybe this is their year; has to be somebody’s year.

AAAAA will be very interesting.. The Red Elephants – Tigers winner wins State..

Buford wishes to ‘welcome’ Washington County to “our home” the Georgia Dome….

Safe travels to all!! Gonna be warm, close to HOT & very humid, like 80-87% at kickoff!

This should be a defensive game. Should be, may not be. Colquitt is balanced and will pass no matter the conditions. Norcross will rely on the pass much more than the Hawgs but Colquitt’s DB’s are talented and could very well be the difference in this game.

Norcross’ passing game is enough to keep the D honest but it is more a “throw it up there” type game with capable receivers. Their running game is used out wide. On a slow track, that may not be available. Both teams will try and execute their normal game plan but we know how the weather can have an effect on a game.

As I said, Colquitt is balanced and will hardly need to adjust much. I won’t put a score on it but I think Colquitt takes this one.

I have no dog in any of these match-ups tonight, but I have seen all play. I thnk theColquit Norcross game is too close to call. People say how balanced CC’s offense is, but it doesn’t matter when a Defense like Norcross’s is on the otherside. Norcross’s weakness is on Offense. This is where I am tempted to pick CC. I think if CC stays more patient then Norcross they win.

@ Big Chief Whopem…….You just got the curse by being picked to win. I always liked NG in this one. I think Mac is a good team with very good players, but wasn’t overly impressed with their win last week. I think NG has its flaws, but I think Mac has more. Good Luck to everybody to night!!

Hope the rain can stay away for nine more hours… Right now it hasn’t rained in Norcross all day. Looks like it could hold off till after the game, but thunderstorms do just crop up out of nowhere. If everyone brings tons of rain gear, that is our best chance for it to stay dry!

@Sportsnut…. You nailed it partner. I think the weather and field conditions will play a big part in tonights game. If the packers can limit there turnovers and penalties they will win. You can’t hae tds called back against a team like this. Play smart; play fast; and the Dome awaits. #GOPACKGO

Familiarity breeds contempt and both of these teams are familiar with one another having played the past two seasons. I think it comes down to which team’s strength prevails. Norcross’s D vs. Colquitt’s O, the other half should be a wash. Norcross 31 -24

Nothing screams National more than a North Gwinnett/Colquitt Co. Final. Let’s hope we get it! Both rep the state very well and what better two teams than these two to tussle it out in a rematch of a thrilling regular season game from last season in the same building.

Never, ever pick against the Packers on the road in a playoff game, otherwise you will be wrong about 70-80% of the time. Some people never learn. BTW, FYI Auburn AL is a good place to be this time of the year. Their HS team is even in the semi-finals playing Hoover this weekend. Auburn got it going on! (Hoover has been just barely escaping so far, having one 1 pt. playoff win, another 3 pt. win, and coming from behind at the end last week).

Have enjoyed reading these posts on this blog so far. It’s the way it should be. Let’s just hope those “stats-stackers” stay away until after the games are over.

the truth

December 6th, 2013
3:12 pm

The Norcross relying on the pass more made by Sportsnut is not correct as Norcross has averaged 194 on the ground and 119 in the air. Colquitt is indeed more balanced. Both teams have backs that have rushed for over 1000 yards with the Norcross back averaging 6.8 and the Colquitt back averaging 5.6. Norcross has rushed for over 200 yards in seven games this year and Colquitt in only 3 games this year. Both teams have QB’s that can run and they are both the second leading rushers on the team. Norcross QB has run for over 602 yards and has hit on 52% of his passes, the Colquitt QB has run for 300 yards and has hit on 56% of his passes. Colquitt has averaged 56 plays per game and Norcross 47 plays per game. Norcross has played all 12 games up to this point on grass, Colquitt has played 11 of their 12 games on turf.
I am just providing stats. The only prediction I am giving is that turnovers will be the difference in the game tonight.

Games on the NFHS network tonight include
Calhoun – Buford
Carrolton – Marist
Tucker – Gainesville
Brooks County – Lovett
Hawkinsville – Marion
ELCA – Calvary Day
Wayne Co – Griffen
Ringold – Washington
Charlton Co – Irwin Co

Link to find the games ; http://www.nfhsnetwork.com/channels/georgia

Some games will require a log in. If you have access to a login from Comcast, you can access those games. If you google “Log into NFHS with Comcast” you should find a page that will give you an access to the Comcast log in. It may take you to another states games but that is ok as the log in will allow access to all subscriber content. Just return back to Georgia games after you log in. If you are up late, California region championships are also online.

@ Patrick… Another one of your witty yet fallible comments.

“Never, ever pick against the Packers on the road in a playoff game, otherwise you will be wrong about 70-80% of the time.”

You are right and there’s no denying this statistic. However, have you considered the possibility that some people are looking at an equally legitimate statistic and using this stat for their prediction of Colquitt losing?

On one side of the coin you have Colquitt making it to the Final Four round 5 seasons in a row (including 13 road playoffs wins). Both of those are state records. Albeit, on the other side of the coin there is the alarming statistic that shows Colquitt has lost in the Final Four round 4 out of those 5 consecutive trips. That’s an 80% chance of them losing tonight.

So this is how one should look at this game. There’s a 70%-80% chance that Colquitt will win this ROAD PLAYOFF GAME. There’s also an equally, if not greater, 80% chance the Colquitt’s season will end tonight. This is called OBJECTIVE analysis, and it is hard to identify or interpret when coming from some one that is not a fan of your school. I have to remind myself of this constantly, but in doing so I can make a more logical prediction for the said game. I’ll be flipping back and forth between AAAAAA’s two mega-matchups tonight. Good luck to the Packers, Blue Devils, and Indians.

Sportsnut, your comment makes no sense. Why would Norcross rely on the pass tonight when they have not done that all season. Norcross has a QB and running back that combined to rush for over 2000 yards this year and they are going to stop doing what has been successful? If Norcross has to rely on the pass tonight then the coach has lost his mind or they are having to play from behind. lf either of those two things happen Norcross loses this game.
