A 30 point win – that was the ugliest game Buford has played this season… As the saying goes, great D always trumps a good O…. Buford’s D was put in many bad situations because our O was very bad this night.. 4 fumbles and an int. I will give props to the Tigers D front. The front 3 go a combined 900+ and Buford could not run smash mouth up the gut. We hit the corners to score 3 TD’s & finally had a wide open wheel route at 30-6… CC’s special teams was not playoff caliber, no punting game, kickoff or even extra point. Callaway – you are just a stepping stone for the showdown all want to see in the Dome… Washington County – Buford…

@WolfDawg dude I don’t get how you still even chat with ron.. He don’t know nothing about football or even WACO football.. Also, I doubt BT Homer get on he should be ashamed at how they ran a hurt Black Rb into the ground.. I mean dude a sophomore why risk him just to get a win when you got him for 2 more years…They knew dude was hurt coming in and ran him on one drive like 7 or 8 times in a row…But I did say if they give us too much space we will eat them up…

I watched Callaway games last year before we played them and now when I’ve watched them they are a much better team this year.. So Buford y’all better bring your A game because they got some serious talent on that team.. WACO will cruise to the dome because I will not believe a team who lost to Cartersville and let NTH put 54 on them will beat WACO in our house…

If anyone care to know BT stadium looks good for a single A team and we had more fans in their house than they did, which is sad, but at least they beat traffic at the start of the 4th…

SoW, your last paragraph is false. As a fan who was in attendance tonight, we didn’t have more fans than they did (though we did bring a big crowd and packed out the visitors’ side!) and most of their fans stayed through the final buzzer.

I understand you’re saying things to make some sort of impact here, but it’s not true. I was impressed with BT’s fan base and players. Several of their players congratulated WACO players on big plays and kickoffs – they were a well coached team that gave us one hell of a first half.

I was on BT side with a bunch of WACO fans… BT fans filled in at the 50, but on the side by the concession it was a lot of WACO fans… You would think if a team had a home game they would have packed out their side, but their just 3 years in with the new coach so it will take time…Also, I watched the area around me clear out, but I guess I would lie just to make an impact.. “Facts” they had one scoreboard that you had to lean hard out your seat to see, one concession stand on the home side, one bathroom area on the home side, and their stands go as high as an single A team stands sit..

FYI I saw a player from BT fight with one of WACO’s after the last int, I also watched in the 4th as BT Wr brushed off a helping hand from our Cb after the Qb was sacked.. So don’t act like several BT players didn’t take the loss hard…LMAO

Congratulations to my boys Buford who showed that no one wants to face them. However last night was WACO’s night, please come to the “Dome” it will be similar to “Custers Last Stand.” Hope you have some history buffs who knows the historical meaning of this statement.

I live in downtown Atlanta, and it was a haul out to BT, so the huge crowd from Sandersville was impressive. I had to sit on the BT side of the field, because there was no room in the visitors’ stands. And there were quite a few WACO fans around me, so that much is true. The BT fans were not as gracious as the St. Pius fans were last year (of course they won, too, but they were good sports throughout the night). BT had big players compared to WACO and seemed well coached. But in the end the turnovers hurt them and broke their will. It was scary for the first half, and I would love to know what coach said to his guys at halftime, because WACO came out fired up! Congratulations!! However, the mental errors and sub-par kicking game will not help the Hawks against Buford. Time for Washington County to focus on the details and play smart football for them to pull the upset.

All I have to say is this….From the AJC – “Washington County led just 19-17 in the third quarter before running off 27 straight points.”

From WACO Fan – “I understand you’re saying things to make some sort of impact here, but it’s not true. I was impressed with BT’s fan base and players. Several of their players congratulated WACO players on big plays and kickoffs – they were a well coached team that gave us one hell of a first half.”

To all you “WACKOS”…THE FACTS ARE THIS:

1) BT gave you all you could handle and you know it. Had an opportunity to go up on you before half too, with two wide open receivers down the sidelines that were misthrown by a sophomore QB. Were right there in the game in the 3rd Quarter.

2) Yes, Championship Football is 4 Quarters and if you want to win at this time of year it is about not making mistakes, or making fewer than your opponents make, and we didn’t do that with our young team. But let’s call out Washington County for who they are. Melvin Hill IS THE ENTIRE WACO Team. Stud player with amazing speed and explosiveness. Hats off to him, as he goes, so goes WACO.

3) By the way, notice our team is mostly sophomores and juniors? And one (the RB) who played hurt? Not what we want having a player at less than full strength, but being one of the Top 5 Teams in the state after replacing 17 senior starters speaks volumes to our Head Coach, our system, our boys and parents, and our future.

4) If you want talk Stadium, it’s a great stadium on a great campus and it had room for everybody who wanted to attend. Next year and in the coming years when you come back to get beat, you’ll see Field Turf and an expanded stadium, by the way. If you learned how to read when you went to WACO, you should have saw the signs from our campaign highlighting that.

5) Unlike WACO, every sport is important at BT, and every sport performs at the Elite 8 Level or better in AAA. And unlike Son, Brother, etc. of WACO and Wolfdawg, every kid that graduates from BT goes to college and can spell and speak articulately.

To WACO Fan – thanks for representing WACO very well. Great team and great fans, it was great talking to all of you throughout the game and afterwards, except for Son and Brother of WACO. Obviously those guys have some issues but every fanbase has guys like that.

Am pulling for Callaway and Ringgold now! And if I have to pull for someone else vs. Buford, because of WACO Fan, I will pull for you all. Keep Melvin Hill healthy because I do think he can singlehandedly ensure WACO beats Buford. Buford should be scared of Hill. I suspect they’ll shadow him with a corner who might be able to keep close to him to limit the damage he can do.

Good luck to all vs. Buford! Will be back next year during BT’s annual run to the dome now that we have the best Head Coach in the State and system, and a pipeline of young talent in our Jr. Program that is already beating the top teams in the state. Look what McFarlin did in three years with talent that was not part of his junior program. Watchout! Go Titans!

Not sure why a lot of people in this blog need to slam other programs (including our very own BTHomerDad) but they do. During a year where 17 starters were replaced, we won the first Region Championship since 2005 and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in school history. The senior class really came together to do great things during a “rebuilding” year but make no mistake BT is young with a lot of sophs who played key roles throughout the season. Waco was really good and despite keeping it close and only being down 19-17 in the 3rd qtr we were going to have to score on every possession to have a chance as we just couldn’t stop them. Clearly the best team we’ve faced since Buford 2011. Our school does not have the history of other schools in the state YET but with our 3rd straight trip to the playoffs and improvement in playoff victories and # of wins every year over the past 3 years it is building. .

P.S. – “Size of the crowd” – what you have to remember is BT is a Catholic college-prep school community comprised mostly of students who live across three or four counties in Metro Atlanta and whose families grew up elsewhere. During holiday breaks, most go visit their families out of state. That was the big reason why the crowd was smaller than one might expect for a game of this magnitude. And BT is still only 13 years old…as the alumni base is established, the crowds will get bigger and bigger and the campus will grow. Looking forward to the future!

BTHomerDad thanks but there were several outstanding players on that field for us to think we rely on one player. Especially after Damien sanders has a career night with 4 interceptions and a touchdown. I just can’t accept that man.

No problem, best of luck to you guys and I am pulling for you all vs. Buford if Callaway or Ringold don’t make it in. I agree Sanders is a good player and he had a career night but let’s face it, just like you said Nick Glass was all St. Pius, Melvin Hill is WACO. He is your ticket to beating Buford. He just needs a few bits of space, and he makes the defense pay for not blitzing. Great player, a difference maker. Definitely one of the best players if not the best I have seen play at BT the last 6-8 years and that includes the Buford Program.

Let’s see when Meltion Shelton left the game was it me or did BT whole offense leave with him??? I never said Nick Glass was all SPX had, but he did make a lot big plays and played at his D-1 status.. Melvin is our factor back, but we have playmakers all over the field.. Just last week our Qb had 240 rushing and 6 Td’s and this game it was Melvin time.. You know we play as “A Team” (Something you didn’t think we could do) every game a player will step up and last night #28 our back up Cb stepped up because as a fan who watches the whole game I see everything.. Our defensive pass coverage along with our pass rush made a Qb who was ok with throwing it away early not so willing to do it late, but I can’t blame him because you can’t win a game being safe all game.. To keep saying it was close early in the 3rd, means to me you didn’t expect the game to even be that close after the first half??? I pay to see a good game not a blow out so Ringgold get off the bus ready to play because them tickets will cost $15 …..

FYI: A BT fan said to me that his child was recruited by BT and that he lived in Roswell for 10 years and didn’t even know about your school until they recruited his son. So how can you hate on Buford???

BTHomerDad

November 30th, 2013
2:20 pm

@ Son of Waco, again, like everyone is calling you out for, lack of consistent team play, a non-existent kicking game, and relying on one player to carry your offense is not a recipe for State Championships especially against the University of Buford.

Many people don’t consider private schools until their kids become the age at where the benefits of a great education and playing athletics in an environment that is most conducive towards focusing on what is best for the kids becomes apparent to parents. So then they wake up and see what is out there besides their traditional public school. Our school is a Catholic school and also many people think you have to be Catholic to attend, which is not accurate either. We hear that alot that many people don’t know about us. We are only 13 years old too so that plays a part of it. However, with having Coach McFarlin at the helm, people now know about BT.

I don’t hate on Buford but rather am calling attention to the fact that they have an advantage no other GHSA public and even private schools have (private have higher academic, religious, and discipline standards that have to be met, not to mention costs that even for scholarship students are still high), and that their teams are built by strong recruiting efforts throughout Gwinnett County that are athletically focused on football first. If you don’t believe me just check out their rosters for their sports teams that win state championships and measure the % of kids that live within the City Limits vs. those without. This is not what high school football is supposed to be about. Most Buford folks like to pretend that the reality is their kids are all homegrown which just adds more fuel to the fire. At the end of the day anyone can root for anyone they choose to, and I just choose to root for schools that are playing with kids within their limits and developing their own talent from within early on.

@BThomer I agree that Buford recruits bigger players to play smaller schools.. Uses the advantages of a private school to have the best of everything, but GHSA say it’s legal so all we as fans can do is hope to play a A+ game against them ..To the people who say we have a subpar kicking game you are right, but like every player on the team when we need him to step up ( Lovett game 30 yard Fg) he was big.. When WACO lean on one player all year the player will have about 1,600 – 2,000 rushing yards on the season, but we don’t have that we have 3 runners with around 1,100 rushing yards…

I know Callaway would love to play WACO for it all and try to avenge the 28-0 loss last year, but know I’ve been watching all year.. That option still will get y’all messed up against us though, we just too fast for it to work..

Folks – I’m quite sure BTHomerDad is a St. Pius or WA fan who is impostering a BT Dad. That is just how it works sometimes. Great season for BT and Region 6 for that matter but it is all about how well a team is playing this time of year and there can only be one winner. WACO has everybit a chance to beat Buford if they play mistake free and put their best game of the year on the table and play inspired, well-coached football. Last year was last year and nobody cares about last year and any team that beats St. Pius is a good team. Callaway has a shot as well and Ringgold for that matter has a shot too. Good thing that they play the games and let the kids decide who is best or otherwise the media and fans would ruin it all :) . Calhoun vs. Buford a few years ago reminded us of that! Hoping for Callaway, Ringgold, or WACO to be this year’s Calhoun.

Well, I waited to comment about the BT game vs WACO until now. As a mom of a player, it was great to see the kids do what they did and keep the score so close the first half. Waco I think was surprised by the BT team, even shaken up a bit at the half. WACO came out after the half and played their hearts out, as did the BT boys.. But we were no match. WACO is a very talented team, big and fast.. Playing man to man defense just killed BT any oppty to advance the ball with their speed. It has been a great ride for the BT football team, and those players should be holding their heads high. It’s been a great 7 years for me as I have watch my sons’ play HS football and learn all the lessons of teamwork, integrity and “everything else” HS sports has to offer. They don’t have the linemen suitable to stop our pass rush, the WR speed to make our DB’s worry about them going deep, and I will have to look at that game film again, but I thought I saw a TE run a crossing rout at a speed of a 5 flat in the 40… Also, the QB seem to be short and y’all saw what we did to Peach short QB…

I don’t think I would be quick to push the “Catholic” private school in everyone’s face. A quick search on the internet for headlines would be embarrassing.
@Waco – Over the past few weeks you continue to gripe about last year, get over it. You couldn’t get to the dome last year. Just be happy if you make it this year.

Son of WACO After much thought about your expert analysis of the Ringgold team…the administration and the coaching staff will be going before the school board to recommend that we do not travel to WACO to play Friday night. You make a great point, it is time for basketball and we do need to get in those early season wins. When told of your analysis of the TE the coaching staff thanked you for the compliment, he actually runs a 5.4 40. The camera adds .4, I guess. We also contacted Peach County about their vertically challenged QB and have decided that if we do decide to show up, that we will play with our second string QB on the shoulders of our first string QB….Thanks again

@bbb1578, that was funny your take of the private schools. Marist is probably the hardest to get into as far as academics. It doesn’t matter if your brother or sister goes there, if the parent went there, or even if your parent teaches there if your test scores are not what they want you go elsewhere.
@BT Superfan, doubt it is really a Pius dad or even a Woodward dad. You do know last year at Pius 2 of your BT dads were punching each other and police had to seperate in the first quarter so you just may have a loose cannon or two running around over there.
Rebuilding is hardly an excuse for losing a playoff game no matter how many you lost. For the second year in a row Pius had a 1st year starter at QB and we made it to the 3rd round. Hate the excuse game some people play.
I think all real fans support their student athletes and hope if they want to play at the next level they have an opportunity to do so. No matter what level they choose. Now on our final team last year year not one football player signed a scholorship to play college football and look how far we went. Much like the Heisman trophey in college football high school playoff success doesn’t guarantee success on the next level.
Really looking forward to the next two weeks of seeing some good high school football around the area. I don’t have a favorite but just want to sit down and enjoy what is left of the season. i do enjoy my time reading these blogs Good Luck and Safe Travels to all.
