So much for predictions..Maxwell ratings predicting Mt. Paran by 1? How does a 6th seed, that is unranked, rate ahead of a #3 seed, ranked 3rd? We’ll accept the underdog role(Aquinas). By my count, we’ve now had 4 playoff victories. Reuben Garnett is an excellent player, and only a junior. QB Liam Welch is a very heady, accurate passer, and never gets flustered, even though only a sophomore. We
have two others who can rush well. Possibly the to kicker in Class A w/field goals up[ to 50 yrds. And, we have the sack leader and top pass rusher. We’ll show up even if underdogs.

UPSETS ??? ….. not holding anyone to this pick, but if you had to pick one team to pull off the upset that would be a “shocker” which team would you go with and why?

I’m going to get scalded over this …. saying it’s a “homer” pick ( fellow Region 5 team ) but I really like Holy Innocents over Mt Pisgah Friday night. They are the one team that no one is talking about ( don’t know where thier fans are ) but they are being undersold on how good they really are. They will play Alabama style football with Mt Pisgah …. real physical football …. pounding it with the running game and playing nasty defense. If they don’t turn the ball over and don’t shoot themselves in the foot with costly plenalties they can and will beat Mt Pisgah … they are that good.

So give me your UPSET pick.

@Sam Roney. Maxwell ratings aside. They don’t mean much just like all the computer ratings. Games are played on Friday nights. That being said, you should really get out of your Augusta bubble more. You think you have the only kicker that can hit from 50? Please. Believe it or not there are better QB’s than yours and running backs just as good as the one you got. You guys act like you’ve got a lock on all the talent??? There are 7 other teams in the quarter finals that are more than capable of beating Aquinas and one that is going to bring the heat on Friday. @ Swamp Lizard
You know my shocking upset pick. It’s the one that comes from the heart. I know, poor practice.
However, the much respected and discussed Charger defense will have to stop a rushing attack featuring four backs that can get yards in varying fashion, led by an O-line that has started together for two full seasons and a few TE’s that motion into devastating blocks. I refer to them as the Four Horsemen and their noble steeds, the Tiger Trench Trolls. No doubt the Tigers are one-dimensional, but which poisonous dimension does a defense choose on a given down and distance?

I have seen video and do recognize the formidable task, but this is a leadership laden Darlington team that is senior heavy and accustomed to being region champions.

MY DREAM SCENARIO (rev. 3): ELCA defeats Athens Christian, and Patriots win out. Tigers defeat the Lions and then shock the Class A world, continuing on to an un-official on-field region championship game at the Dome.

Ride, Win, Play Again.

@MPC FANS, Ifu please refer back to Mr Rooney’s post, will think of it as fair warning as to what yall gonna see friday, stats are stats, and no matter who puts them in you can refer back to the tapes cause the eye in the sky don’t lie! We have two returnig all state selections that are not the RB, QB, or Kicker. And you already seem to know who they are, so we don’t have all the talent but we do have plenty, (3 div1 prospects in 2014 class, 3 in 2015 and 2 in 2016) and there is a few more that will be playing some where in college also, Now underdog role is something that is for yall fans to debate about, we just go take care of business on the field, this is gonna be a historical season for Aquinas that is gonnaend at the Dome!!! Sorry to stress it but yall a re just gonna be witnesses first hand to the Cake Walk!!!!

Augusta68 and the other good people from Aquinas on here have a different mentality.

I’ll tell you what…., since you have such a big mouth in your predictions, why not lay out the”cake walk” as you describe it. You have scattered comments all over the blogs and all are childish. Predict the “beat down scores” of all 3 upcoming rounds. 1/4 FINAL PRIVATE PICKS

#8 ( 9-2 ) Darlington at #1 ( 10-0 ) ELCA …. The Darlington Tigers are going to line it up ( & sneak a pass or two in ) and run it at the ELCA “D” in every direction you can think possible. The big question is this … will it work against the best defense in Class A? Most teams losing their All State QB would cumble and falter this time of year, but ELCA isn’t most teams, they have plenty of “playmakers” to overcome and keep marching on. ELCA wins !!

#5 ( 10-1 ) Prince Ave Christian at # 4 ( 9-2 ) Calvary Day … Calvary Day has one of the better offenses in all of Class A … a very “talented” team that can throw it with the best of them. Prince Ave isn’t bad at putting up points either, leading all of Class A at 44.0 points per game as they prefer the ground game. There are two big differences in this game though …. Defense ( that Prince Ave has ) and a Coach ( Jeff Herron ) on the Prince sidelines that has had his share of “Big” games. PRINCE AVE moves on.

#6 ( 9-2 ) Mt Paran at #3 ( 11-0 ) Aquinas … Two very “solid” teams … Mt Paran having beat 5 playoff teams this year and Aquinas, well, winnning them all. The “verdict” is still out on Aquinas and just how good they really are after playing one of the weakest schedules in Class A . Week in and week out Mt Paran has seen good teams …. I think this is the week we find out a lot about Aquinas. I have my doubts about how good that 11-0 record is and I’m going on record and taking MT PARAN in a hard fought game.

#10 ( 7-4 ) Holy Innocents at #2 ( 11-0 ) Mt Pisgah … What an impressive season Mt Pisgah has had up to this point … 11-0, Region 6 Champs, and taking care of business one week at a time. Now here comes Holy Innocents …. a very “blah” looking 7-4 record, a team flying under the radar … a team no one is talking about. Make no mistake, this team is a lot better than that 7-4 record and the #10’s ( Dooly Co & Holy Inncents ) keep rolling !! Yes, I am going on the books and taking #10 over #2 ….. upset special HOLY INNOCENTS !!!

Looks like it’s going to be slightly warmer tonight, so that probably favors our passing game, which has been very potent of late(Aquinas). I’d say I finally agree with the RealMt.’s latest post, in that I hope all
teams escape without any serious injuries, because first we don’t want any hurt, and also, in Class A

I have been keeping up all year with the Single A posts. Every school seems to have their “crazies” but they are all balanced with the realist and humble. I’d like to meet you guys Swamp and TigerPatPaw and love your competitive nature but yet both have a healtappreciation for other schools talent. Have a great dinner together tonight, I think it is so cool that y’all are “breaking bread together”. I think that is clearly a show of good sportsmanship. I’m quite sure Aquinas has top shelf fans too. I wish they would come out and comment on here too (thanks Augusta68 for your comments)

CRSA and Sam Roney are not representatives I would embrace at Mt Paran Christian. The great Bo Jackson said “it ain’t bragging if you back it up”. Interesting quote seeing he only spoke with his actions. IF Aquinas prevails I will congratulate your boys. If you don’t win at the dome you two guys are nothing but braggers. BTW I was at the playoffs vs Aq in baseball and that didn’t work out so well for Aquinas. MPC easily cleared that round and eventually lost the state championship to ELCA. Eagle fans, what would it be like if we advanced in just our 5th year of HS football?

I do want to give a shout out to the coaches and players at MPC. It has been a special year and a special group. We were 3-7 last year with approx 16 seniors. This year we have 1 on off line and 1 special teams. We did not expect post season play in 2013 with this young team. But thanks to a solid group of sophomores and a bunch of junior multi sport athletes who came out this year, this team has out performed and exceeded everyone’s expectations. We played a tough schedule beat 2 good teams twice, last a close game at Landmark, and the conf championship in last 40 seconds after leading Pisgah the whole way. We are blessed to be here!! More than anything I’m grateful to God for these fine young men. Zippy says GO EAGLES!l

RealMt. you had a good team and your folks were all first class. Swamp Lizard..Looks like your pick was wrong, huh! We would have done better if Reuben Garnett had not been injured on the second play.
It hurt us most on defense because he is a big part of our secondary. We had other guys step up and
rush well on offense. Garnett returned for two plays at the end, and should be okay for Mt. Pigsah. It
should be an interesting battle. Zippy, Aquinas did prevail, but I’m not going to say anything about your comments, as everything I saw of your folks was first class, and they are a good team. I don’t
