Predictions: Region 7-AAAAAA poised for first-round sweep

The only region in the state’s highest classification to go 0-4 in the first round of the playoffs last season was 5-AAAAAA, which sent Lassiter, Milton, Walton and Wheeler to the postseason only to see them lose to Gwinnett County teams from Region 8. This year the region’s playoff contingent will include Etowah instead of Wheeler, and the Gwinnett competition will come from Region 7, but 5-AAAAAA is in danger of being swept again. Look for Peachtree Ridge (over Lassiter), Norcross (over Etowah), North Gwinnett (over Milton) and Collins Hill (over Walton) to give 5-AAAAAA its second consecutive winless postseason.

So Archer is going to be the only team to win from Region 8? I would bet the egg and milk money that wont happen…..

I think Lassiter can upset Peachtree Ridge tomorrow night. They are playing at home, have won 5 straight, and have all players back for this game. It will certainly be an interesting one, and it will have a lot of quality match-ups. Whoever protects the ball, limits penalties, and plays solid special teams will win. Then again, isn’t that the truth 90% of the time anyway. Good luck to all teams tomorrow! The only games I have different on my bracket in AAAAAA are: #1) Lassiter over PTR #2) Dacula over W. Forsyth and #3) Brookwood over Lambert.

Where’s the predictions for Class A?

November 14th, 2013
9:30 pm

I see the AJC agrees with me that Region 2 will go 1-3. Peachtree Ridge over Lassiter is a very real possibility that would give the sweep to Region 7. I like Brookwood’s chances against Lambert, and even think South Gwinnett will be very competitive with Alpharetta. Camden County will romp. East Cowetta, the higher seed, has the offense to upset Lowndes that didn’t play well when they previously went north.

November 14th, 2013

East Coweta vs Lowndes game will be a close one. Colquitt will beat Newnan easily. Camden will goose egg Westlake. Hughes will dominate Valdosta

@ NCHS fan, it was close last year. Colquitt had to come back in the final minute to beat Newnan 26-23 in round 2. The game is in Moultrie tho and Colquitt is coming off a loss to Camden. Gotta give tge edge to the Packers, but ya never know.

Don’t count Valdosta out..they never quite and last weeks lose to Coffee has them fired up. PRIDE to prove they deserve to be there. Colquitt at home will be tough to beat. North Cobb I hope will win big. Camden is Camden what can u say. Lowndes will have their hands full wih East Cowetta..Go Vikings.

Region 5-AAAAA is goin 3-1 first round… if Allatoona had all their players well and ready then kell would have a run for their money seeing as kell dont really face off on anyone. And to the point someone made awhile back bout region 5 being weak? What was that?
N. Paulding 9-1
S. Paulding 9-1
E. Paulding 7-3
Allatoona 7-3
Every one of these teams has either a great offense or defense or both, so keep an eye out for 5-A baby because they comin hard and fast

Together, WE SHIELD

Ok region 4/AAAAAA it’s time to “REPRESENT”. Last year we went 2-2 against much tougher competition(region 1). This year let’s “SWEEP”. Yes Lovejoy, that includes U!

#1 North Cobb Warriors vs Luella: “FEAR THE SPEAR”. Nuff said!

#2 Hillgrove Hawks vs Alcovy: As much as this pains me, ” GO HAWKS!!!” Definitely nuff said.

#3 MCEACHERN INDIANS vs Newton: We enter the battlefield this week without our best warrior (QB Ty Clemons). And from what I hear a few defensive Indians will be MIA due to let’s say “conduct detrimental to the Team”. But even without them I think we’ve got more than enough to defeat Newton. Just remember coaches- “pound the rock” with #33(Mr. Chubbs). And mix in some Taj Griffin. THUNDER AND LIGHTING!!! Keep the pressure off the freshman QB(Mr. Hockman).

#4 Marietta Blue Devils vs Lovejoy: Do what U do best! Score points in bunches and ask for a little help from the “D”. Show NO LOVE to the folks at 12 Oaks.

@74 – well if Brookwood could beat #1 seed #1 ranked Lassiter last year in the first round, Peachtree Ridge, with probably a better team this year, has a good chance. I picked them too. I have 1-AAAAAA going 3-1. Elsewhere, in the simulation of 1 million playoff outcomes, 1-AAAAAA & 7-AAAAAA make up 89% of the projected winners. I cannot disagree.

November 15th, 2013
9:09 am

Brookwood will be dangerous on the road vs a young, up & coming Lambert…

The Comets just might surprise too. They can score with the best of them..

As for 7 over 5 (AAAAAA) Cobb Co football is just not “all that” & will get Xposed – AGAIN!!!

On a serious note – Safe travels to ALL fans, players, coaches & classmates..

Proving grounds. That is what many stadiums will become tonight. So many superior teams exist that others are rendered invisible. Should be many 1-0 scores because of the teams that will not show up. I don’t think there will be many though. No one gets a pass.

Here are few things I have heard this morning concerning the 6A Playoffs.
1) Lassiter’s stadium is VANDALIZED with PR Lions content Thursday night.
2) Word in Gwinnett is QB Sphire has torn meniscus and will not play despite of reports he is a game-time decision

GwinnettDad….Just don’t care for the way it’s being HYPED! Everyone knows Region 7 is powerful, there’s no need to further embarrass the kids from Region 5 by continually predicting they will get swept! :-)

November 15th, 2013
12:56 pm

As weak as 8-AAAAAA has been this year, the Maxwell Ratings reflect that weakness. Out of a million playoff outcomes, Dacula wins 383 times, Brookwood just 85 times, and South Gwinnett just 6 times.

However, regarding which one of the regions is the weakest, how many times does the 2-4 seeds from Region 2 win the State? That’s Newton, Alcovy, and Luella.

Zero. Zero. And Zero.

Again, we see an impartial rating simply reflect reality, and not the opinion and prejudices of somebody that should know better.

November 15th, 2013

@Camden74 I’m one of the few Gwinnett people on this board that believe Lassister has a good chance…the vandalism of their home field probably won’t sit very well with that team. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple questionable calls come from sympathetic zebras…after pulling a stunt like that PTR’s margin of error has shrunken considerably

November 15th, 2013
1:08 pm

@Cool_Coach1 – haven’t seen the damage, but I tend to agree. Why in the world motivate the home team like that? The dolts that did it are motivating Lassiter in a way they may never have been otherwise.

November 15th, 2013
1:25 pm

@ GwinnettDad Clearly these knuckleheads have never seen Fast Times @ Ridgemont High…LOL! Hey PTR if Lassiter has a kid named Charles Jefferson and is wearing #33 it probably won’t be a good night to be on offense LOL!

Cool_Coach1….I’m sympathetic to Region 5 and hope they can win at least one game. Plus, I’m not impressed with PTR. Normally, I stick to cheering for Region 1. But this time around, I feel differently about the situation….. :-)

Peachtree Ridge kids vandalized many cars in the North Gwinnett Strudent parking lot last Friday night. Would not put any of these shenanigans past the quality kids at the Ridge.

I hope there is a security tape at Lassiter to catch and prosecute the perpetrators. I could believe it is either some PRidge kids or kids from a rival High School. It smells like that is too far to drive from PRidge, since I don’t think they care that much about football. Don’t be surprised if the visiting stands are not full. The PRidge principal and coach should make a very public apology before the game, and not just blame it on George Bush or the insurance companies. Mostly, this just proves that teenage males will sometimes do some very stupid things.

The discussion about any sort of sweep is completely inappropriate. It is highly unlikely to happen, and purely creates ill will. All the kids who play tonight have worked very hard to get to this point, and they deserve the respect of everyone regardless of game outcomes.

I even like Lovejoy. They have a heck of a team that is exciting to watch. They can beat almost anybody – except maybe Norcross.

Good luck to all the teams. I really hope that nobody gets hurt.

@Sportsnut – You write on this blog, and you think people don’t remember what YOU so proudly insist is the truth? And how dismissive and superior you are when you do it? :-) :-) :-) Over and over again you stated that Region 8 was the weakest region in the State because of their W-L, when region 2 plays down and Region 8 doesn’t. Admit you were not only mistaken, you were just flat WRONG. WRONG, WRONG WRONG. Man up and admit it.

November 15th, 2013

Colquitt County should beat Newnan easily. As a former Packer and 1994 state champion, It would be awesome for this team to make a run and win a second state title in the 100th year of Packer football. Go Pack Go!!!!!

November 15th, 2013
4:39 pm

@GwinnettDad == I only spoke the truth. When it all started, it began with region 2 and 3 being labeled as the weakest. The numbers proved that wrong. The won-lost record is the best and really the only indicator. You were wrong. And you still are !

You are among the many here calling for a sweep and you call me superior and dismissive. All the talk coming from you are indicative of those two words.

I sure don’t have a prolem with the kids on your team. I have watched film, they are good football players and exciting to watch. Just as a QB or WR would probably rather play for a “spread” team, playing for Lovejoy must be a D-Lineman’s dream. I come from an era when some teams ran a 5 – 2 so it is very interesting to watch what happens when you rush 5 against a modern formation.

If I have a problem at all with the team, it is with the some of the team’s fans, not the kids or the team itself. I hope the kids do well, as I know they will. I wish that some of the team’s obnoxious fans would dial it back a bit, but as you rightfully point out, I have no expectation of being able to influence that. However, you might consider how it reflects on the team itself.

Good luck to Brookwood. I expect you to win that game, and I think your superior kicking game might just prove to be the margin of victory in a playoff game or two.

Christmas morning is here! And it is almost time to open the presents. I hope everyone gets what they wanted, even though that is unrealistic.
