I wont be suprised if Region 2 and REgion 3 get swept in the 1st round.

Hughes though talented, you have to be worried if they will be intimidated by the mystique of playing Valdosta. I dont give East Coweta, Newnan or Westlake much chance at all of advancing.

@sportsnut

I know you hate to hear it, but I smell an upset brewing against your Lovejoy team. Marietta is a dangerous team, could be a sweep there too.

Fair point about Hughes…they had a similar regular season run last year and got blown away by North Cobb in the 2nd round. It all depends on how much they’ve grown up since 2012…there is certainly still a mystique about playing the Wildcats in Valdosta but it’s not near what it once was.

Marietta has the athletes to score points but the question is can they make enough stops on defense to beat Lovejoy. I’d love to see the Blue Devils go down there and win but their lack of depth hurt them against the other speed teams in region.

@ OMacG == Valdosta has to go to Hughes. No mystique in Fairburn.

No way Lovejoy loses to Marietta! No disrespect to the Blue Devils but Lovejoy is too deep, too fast, and too strong for them. Every year they are primed and ready for that playoff run! They can beat any team in 6A with no problem if they play sound, mistake free football! It will not be a shock to anyone if they make it to the Dome AGAIN for the THIRD year in a row!

@Sportsnut- true that…posted without thinking it through, yet again. LOL

Looks like LH can play some solid defense and Valdosta has a solid one, too. Might be a close, low-scoring game.

@ High 5- I agree about depth being a positive for Lovejoy. May-retta can probably match them speed wise but just not enough once it gets past the starters, IMO. But if you’ve watched high school football for any amount of time at all, you know good and well that “no way” losses happen almost every Friday night. There are several teams in 6A that can’t be beat if they play sound, mistake free football…but with teenaged males, you’re gonna have nights when they don’t and lose to someone they shouldn’t.

@OMacG Valdosta has not traveled well the past few years… North Cobb put 40 points on them last year during the playoffs, and everyone on the blogs said North Cobb would lose because of the mystique… and they have to come to Fairburn this year…

Both defenses are good, but the Panthers win…traveling from south GA has the same effect on teams as it does when teams from north GA have to travel down south…

As a Valdosta alum I can tell you there is NO mystique about Valdosta anymore. All decent law abiding tax payers send their kids to Valwood (up-coming private school) or live outside city limits and go to Lowndes. Valdosta (like SWD here in Atlanta) has had its day. They will not be a factor until they combine with Lowndes school system and redistribute the students.

Will be hard to be for Newnan to beat the Pack in the Hog pen. But East Coweta has a fair chance against Lowndes at home.

Mceachern has fallen apart.Defense gave up several long plays by being out of position and poor tackling.Way too many penalties and delay of game calls. The quarterback left the game in an ambulance and was replaced by a very shook up 9th grader. He is probably going to be a superstar, but,is too young to lead a 6A team in the playoffs.Ty Clemons is the heart and soul of this team and I hope his injury is not serious. The coaching staff had a really awful night,With plenty of time left and the game on the line Mceachern was driving down the field 6-7 yards a clip and faced a4th and 1 deep in Hillgrove territory and simply had to hand the ball to#33 for the first down and chose to throw a long incomplete pass.Unbelievable!Nobody in the state has better facilities than Mceachern.Their personnel is probably the best in the state.Taj Griffin reminds me of Percy Harvin and his talents are not being utilized properly. All this being said,I think Hillgrove played inspired football and deserved to win.

Get over it dude. Your coaches know 100 times more about high level, high school football than you. You just spout drivel and hide behind their key pad every time you lose. Taj Griffin carries a lot of parental baggage. That’s why Alabama and FL State won’t offer. Just take your butt whooping and shut up!

Now is the time for the states best to step up. Some we don’t have to worry about showing up. Others have been stating they are the best. Those are the ones who now have to put up or shut up.

@ bugs- some of that struggle on defense was a result of several starters missing the game due to on-field issues during the Harrison game the week before. Another starter watched from the sidelines for the remainder of the HG game after pulling yet another of his out-of-control stunts during play. I commend the Mac coaching staff for taking those actions…likely hurt our chances of winning this game but hopefully proves beneficial in the long run. Bottom line is that Hillgrove is a good football team and came out fired up, intense and ready to play…I congratulate the Hawks on the win and despite the outcome, it was a fun game to watch. I doubt either program will ever dominate this series…will be a back-and-forth affair in the coming years, IMO.

As far as “fallen apart,” we’ll have to see how we play in the first round, without our leader on the field who I agree, is the heart and soul of this team. I have absolutely no idea what all plays into the decisions our coaches make during a game, so I generally stay away from being too critical. I do have questions that cross my mind, however…and yes, one of those that has crossed it during both this game and the North Cobb game was in regard to running 33 up the gut until the defense proves they can stop it. Tough to dismiss that thought when even our women folk in the stands and Hillgrove parents after the game ask the same question.

@74 – actually, I originally picked Colquitt County earlier in the year. 2 losses don’t rule out a State Champion, by no means. But I think your route to the dome doesn’t have the strength of the other side of the bracket. Isn’t in also interesting that Hillgrove, who beat Camden at Camden in 2010, is a likely visitor in the 2nd roud? Then NG? If Camden does survive those two games, I don’t see anybody in the semi-finals from the upper bracket to stand in your way except Collins Hill.

The teams that I think most of your biggest threats, Colquitt, Norcross, Lovejoy are all on the other bracket. At most, you’ll only have to face one of them.

Sportsnut what the skinny on Alcovy. Inquiring Hillgrove nation would like to know. Region 2 is dominated by Lovejoy but don’t hear much about the others.

Only a Matter of Time, speaking out of turn, the strongest 6A team Alcovy has played was Lovejoy, and lost by 21 – understandable. Other 6A’s they beat not high in the rankings were Rockdale, Druid Hills, Morrow. They just barely beat Luella and just barely lost to Newton. Just knowing this, I’ll say Hillgrove by 14, but HG will need a pretty decent game–no high risk plays in low risk situations, and that’s what is known before the snap. Avoid passing too deep. Keep the ball with Bagley. If you can’t keep the spread over 7, take the 3 point if within range.
