Flowery Branch-Gainesville and Tucker-Mays to determine region champions

Here’s what to look for this weekend in Class AAAAA:

- Two regions will determine their championships with head-to-head meetings of the two leaders. One is 8-AAAAA, where rivals Flowery Branch and Gainesville are both undefeated in region play. Flowery Branch won 35-34 last year by stopping a late two-point conversion attempt, but Gainesville recovered to win the state championship. The other is 6-AAAAA, where Mays’ upset of Stephenson last week set up a showdown with top-ranked Tucker for the title. Mays won its only region championship in 2003.

- Creekside and Kell enter the weekend with 9-0 records and top-five rankings, but they’ll miss the playoffs if they don’t beat teams with losing records in the regular-season finales. That’s because they play in subdivided regions that hold winner-take-all play-in games that determine the state playoff representatives. Creekside faces Ola (2-7) in a 4-AAAAA, while Kell takes on Cambridge (3-6) in 7-AAAAA. Creekside and Kell will be the champions from their regions if they take care of business.

- Sixth-year program North Paulding will win its first region title if it beats Villa Rica in 5-AAAAA. If North Paulding loses, the title most likely will go to South Paulding, which is tied with the Wolfpack for first place and closes the regular season against Lithia Springs (0-9). North Paulding beat South Paulding on Oct. 4 to gain the tiebreaker edge. North Paulding quarterback Chase Noonan passed for 464 yards and six touchdowns in a 62-46 victory over Allatoona last week that set the Wolfpack up for the title shot.

- Thomas County Central will look to nail down the 1-AAAAA championship by avenging a surprising 18-12 loss to Harris County in 2012 that allowed the Tigers to take the region title. It was a game Thomas County Central felt it gave away with four turnovers, a missed extra point and a couple of critical penalties. “Where that execution came from, I don’t know,” Yellow Jackets coach Bill Shaver told the Thomasville Times-Enterprise after last year’s game. “I don’t have words to say why we executed that way.”

- Ware County will have the least stressful week of any of the region leaders after clinching the championship in 3-AAAAA last week. The Gators, who close out the regular season against Effingham County, hold a one-game lead over Richmond Hill but beat the Wildcats three weeks ago. In fact, this week’s game is probably more important to Effingham County, which has clinched a playoff berth but is still battling with Glynn Academy for third place in the region.

- Warner Robins will win its first region title since 2004 if it beats Lakeside of Evans in 2-AAAAA. The Demons are tied with city rival Northside for first place but hold the tiebreaker advantage after beating the Eagles 28-18 last week. If Warner Robins loses, Northside would take the title by beating Evans. If both teams lose, it’s possible for there to be a four-way tie for first that would include Lakeside and Houston County.

Well EAST entered it’s game last Friday night with winless LITHIA SPRINGS knowing it was staring at missing the playoffs for only the 2nd time since 05. With a loss to ROME a few weeks ago EAST had dug a hole that forced EAST to beat LITHIA SPRINGS last Friday and then go TO ALLATOONA this Friday and win AGAIN! The problems at EAST this year have been no secret and many post have been made about them.

The air had seemingly gone out of the EAST balloon with the loss to SOUTH two weeks ago and you could tell it from the sparse attendance in the Home stands last week. EAST scored twice in the first 6 minutes and went on to win 34 / 0 with the CANNON firing and the smoke filling the air. Expecting one final game with ALLATOONA to end the season seemed likely…THEN suddenly the smoke cleared and a VILLA RICA team that EAST had beat 31 / 0 a few weeks before came to the rescue and beat ROME 21 / 20 in overtime.

Now the EAST team that was sure it was going to be on the outside looking in this year has it’s playoff fate SOLELY in it’s own hands. Not only can EAST make the playoffs BUT they can make it as the # 3 spot…and this is HUGE!!! The # 4 seed is going to have to play KELL at KELL, no small mountain to climb this year!

So…EAST has to STOP all the bickering, FORGET about all the problems, pull themselves up and PRACTICE harder than they have all year and go into ALLATOONA with one thing on their mind…WIN!!!

Do this and they keep the playoff streak alive and live to play in the 1st Round of the State Playoffs. SO EAST…JUST WIN!!!

The EAST RAIDER NATION of cheering, bell ringing followers need to support this team and fill the visitors side this Friday at ALLATOONA…

Proud to be able to say again…

Tucker wins this game easily! Mays defense Is not good enough to stop Tucker’s offense and mays offense is not good enough to out score tucker. Mays beat Mlk 26-20 tucker hung 60 on Mlk mays beat Stephenson 13-9 tucker hung 31 on them. To beat tucker you will have to score at least 40 and that may not be enough lol this gem will be over quick. I don’t post prediction scores but tucker by 30 or more. After seeing mays I’m still not impressed. Yes they are 7-2, yes the beat Mlk and Stephenson, but I can’t see this being a good game. Tucker is to fast and too good

@ Gainesville-Steve…

RealisticFan is saying ALLATOONA is GOING DOWN as in getting BEAT tomorrow night by EAST!

and you play the teams the G.H.S.A. assigns to your Region, as you probably know a lot has to do with travel and school size. EAST has played KELL twice in the past few years losing in 2010 – 20 / 13, then winning in 2011 – 34 / 0. EAST has also beat CLARKE CENTRAL twice in the playoffs.

But I tend to like the rivalry it brings playing teams close in, however it looks like EAST will lose NORTH PAULDING and ALLATOONA soon as they may move UP to AAAAAA due to school enrollment numbers, don’t know if they will allow EAST to continue to play them then.

Proud to be able to say again…

@ Gainesville-Steve, man’ what you drinking??? It must be some good juice! Gainesville by 42 is “delusional!” You gonna make me come up there and root for FB, so that my JAGS can teach y’all a lesson, Stephenson has never been blown out like that, I promise you this one thing! MLK will not allow y’all to push them over like that as well; looking at strength of y’all schedule and from what I’ve seen last week, Gainesville is good but only average with D. Watson. What happens if & when he gets shut down? What other options do y’all have, your running game is not even something to chat about, your OL & DL is average. Again much respect is given to y’all for winning the state last year, but that was then and now is now. You have a quality QB, but other than that, you guys are a average team. Top quality teams loose to other top programs like we (Stephenson) did (close games), not getting blown away like you did to Buford. YES! Buford is good but Gainesville are supposed to be good too right! “Be a realist man”, Gainesville looses to MLK by 7 since they can’t kick a field goal, Against Stephenson, it gets worst, Gainesville loose by 17….

@ BcS2010, I wouldn’t have thought in a million of years that Stephenson would have lost to MAYS, on paper and the stats sheet, “Stephenson wins”, but it’s amazing what a bunch of over hyped hungry ball players from ATL. can accomplished when they are focus and playing almost error free ball. I see Tucker winning a close game or MAYS winning this one in the trenches, anyway, like I’ve said, with our region 1, 2, 3, or 4th seed really doesn’t matter because of the strength of our region.

Would love to see Tucker go into the state playoffs at the top of AAAAA, but the way this season has gone, wouldn’t be surprise if them Raiders put together an upset! “IT REALLY DOESN’T MATTER THOUGH!”

The WR-Demons better hope they have something left after their upset of NSWR last week. @ Gainesville-Steve

Go to the previous blog to see my full comment. I compared your Gainesvilje up tempo spread to North Paulding up tempo spread attack. Gville relies in the pass more and North is more balanced. (I am not being disrespectful to the champs, merely pointing out similarities. Also both Gville and North has suspect defenses and can give up both yards and points in bunches. They both can be out muscled at times.

The biggest and most obvious difference is D Watson. He is a D1 athlete, very talented, highly recruited and is the face of the red elephants. I’ve watched the Gville/Buford game and he definitely was rattled and out of his element at times. North on the other hand has a QB(Chase Noonan), that was 1st team all region las year and 2nd team all state last year to Watson. He’s not Watson but also a lot better then an average spread QB. The reason he’s not as well know is simply because his stature (5′8″ or 8, 155 lbs), doesn’t attract a lot if media or recruiting attention. The rest of the team , coaches and fans would not trade Chase for anyone. Chase along with 30+ other seniors will lead them forward and they just might put a light scare in some if the transitional big names. FB took the Reg8 title from Gville a year ago tomorrow then turned around 7 days later as the. #1 seed and gave up 60+ points as North lead 42-7 at halftime of their home field first round loss.

Tucker took out North the next week relatively easy after a had fought half. The experience of playing Tucker, will be invaluable this year. They know they belong, only question will be how deep is their belief and how deep will their run be.

Hey Wolfpack I dont wear glasses except on two occasions:
(1) when the sunshine is too bright and (2) When I watched Gainesville smoke other teams in 7 on 7s this summer. The dumbfounded stare-glare in the other players eyes was blinding. Other than that I can see very welll. I can see well enough to tell you that Stephenson is overrated like the rest of their region. Are they even ranked? NO! Did they lose to weaker teams? YES! How could they lost that game to Tucker? I watched the whole thing. I didnt see when Mays stomped them but Im sure they were too busy celebrating and Hooping and hollering about individual plays that means nothing in the grand scheme of things. We could line up 8 or 9 against some of reg. 6 teams 11 and still whup them. Heck we just need a center to give the ball to D-Wat, two WRs and two Guards to protect him. His release is too quick for these rookies. LOL!!

Wouldn’t you know it??? BOOOM!!!!

Tucker will not loose, bank on it! No score predictions because Mays has been a Dr. Jekell & Mr. Hyde team all year and hard to say what team shows up. Their coach is for real and knows what he is doing so you have to respect that. But we don’t loose games like these.

All of you can talk and say what you want to but post season is here and there will be plenty of crow to go around at the Thanksgivings table! Trust me when I say this with all the sincerity, you do not want to play this Tucker team this year! They have disrespected us and put us 25th overall in the state and people are talking upset every game we play but the secret will be revealed about this team before the 3rd round.

Oh, better yet, ask MLK and Stephenson on the morning of Saturday, November 16th as they start turning in their helmets and uniforms for the season how it felt to get scored on so much by the Branch and the Big Bad Red Elephants! I bet they will be able to tell you exactly what colors the bottom of our WRs cleats are, cause thats all they will see every time Gainesville gets on the field.
Oh, also tell your boys to please watch their heads, D-Wat has a serious stiff arm and I have seen many rush at him, only to get stiffed with their heads suddenly tilted up towards the heavens and arms stretched out into thin air as if they are looking up and asking for assistance. Tell them to pray before the game. Prayers belong in church not after a stiff arm.

@JAB: I went back and read an earlier blog when you said, you’ve never gotten beaten in a blowout like Gainesville-Steve suggest would happen if and when you play Gainesville. In looking back over the records for the past 10 years for Stephenson most of their losses have been under 7 points. Ware County beat them by 14 – 0 last year, then you have to go all the way back to 2005 when Brookwood (State Runner up @ 14-1) beat them 42-21. In 2005 Lowndes State Champs 15-0 beat them 43-7 and then in 2003 Camden State Champs 15-0 beat them 26-0. But in the last 8 years they’ve only lost 18 games 2.25 per year by an average of 5.17 points. If you take out the two highest losses in those 8 years it goes down to 3.63. So JAB I have to agree with you Stephenson can play with just about anybody and it’s almost always going to be close. Hope my Ware County Gators see you in the playoffs again this years. I know you would like a little revenge. LOL

Good to see JAB back in the spirit. I just knew Stephenson being held to 43 yards rushing vs Mays would just keep him quiet at least until Stephenson boatraces North Atlanta tonight. lol.

Tucker should win but you CANNOT discount Mays at all. If the Mays D that showed up last week against Stephenson shows up against Tucker man it’s going to be one heck of a football game. Tucker has the weapons and the speed and Mays knows that. Tucker has been putting up points by the boatload against defenses not as good as Mays and/or Stephenson. Remember most of the points in the Tucker/Stephenson game came in the last 6 mins of the 4th qtr so the defenses were very much a factor in the game for the most part. As always Special teams may have something to do with it either way.

Gainesville is strong no doubt but still very suspect on D and their region isn’t as bad as some think it is. Gainesville has improved since the loss to Buford and if you have watched them you see the adjustments however I’m not sold on their D fully. As the O goes so does Gainesville, slow the O and score points and do not make mistakes and you have a shot at them.

@jvillebil everybody KNOWS Stephenson will play with just about anybody but it’s HOW they lose those close games (coaching and special teams) that is the forever monkey on their back. In their close wins they usually are just hanging on. Stephenson is always a threat but you always know if it’s close you have a shot because something may happen with special teams or game situation coaching. Been like that for what, since the school opened.

Hey jvillebil, don’t worry about Stephenson and that 10 year record of hanging in there with almost everyone. They might get the gift of doom and have to play Gainesville where that 10 year record will go out the window. I know the Gainesville team cant wait to start their path of destruction back to the dome an Stephenson will be in the way for a quarter before they have to use the mercy rule.
What side of the brackets is Ware on? Did your prayers come through? Did the good lord make it so that you are far and away fromn Gainesville like you would prefer? We didnt beat you all too bad last year did we? I hope the Ware team stiull has its confidence because I swear we beat the confidence and the life out of you’ll didnt we? Do you remember that no huddle offense (or in your case, you’ll probably called it the hurry up offense)? It got better. Be a smart sport and stay away. We dont want to beat Ware twice. Let Northside Warner Robbins or Thomas County Central come get some of this so we can send them back to South Georgia like we did you’ll.

@HSFB FOLLOWER: I firmly believe Mays is a good program, however the game tilted towards Mays because of a wet field. On a dry field, Stephenson wins that game. May not have been a blowout, but they win. Also I am going out on a limb here, but if Flowery Branch wins tomorrow, Gainesville will get upset in the first round! Do not believe MLK has the ability to get into a shoutout with Gainesville, but Stephenson definitely has the talent and athletes to beat Gainesville. Stephenson will play better against Gainesville than the did against Tucker because the emotional hype will not be there as it was against Tucker! And the have the speed at DB to match up with those great receivers! This is not Heritage, Loganville, Cedar Shoals, etc!!

Love how everyone is comparing what Buford does to teams!! Just Win Baby..

@ Stephenson fanz… I know a LOT about your team. You have some of the best athletes year in & year out.. However, they are NOT used to tight games, & when you are in the playoffs the games are usually tight. When they get into tough slugfests they are undisciplined & penalties hurt them. They usually do not have a good kicking game & in tight games, field position is key & have missed some Xpoints that will haunt in the playoffs.

Tucker is & has always been tough & between these 2, are some of the cream of the crop in AAAAA..

That being said…. Ya still gotta get thru the Red Elephants of Gainesville..

Good Luck to ALL.. (I love the banter!!)

I’m so hoping that Gainesville and Stephenson can somehow face each other. Then we can hookup electrodes to Gainesville-Steve’s and JAB’s keyboards and power a small city with their keystrokes.

JAB typing “Stephenson is the best in even with two losses! We used to be in the top classification!”

Gainesville-Steve typing “D-Wat! Region 8! Clarke!” over and over again.

Think of all the coal and natural gas saved! Go green, root for Stephenson and Gainesville to play each other!
