I would love to hear why SA,MP and MAX have Lovejoy ranked so low! I think it just shows they have a lack of RESPECT for a Talented Football team(Lovejoy)!!!

RobFromNorcross

November 6th, 2013

MaxPreps and Maxwell are both computer polls, so they take into account the fact that Lovejoy hasn’t played a very tough schedule and they lost to the only ranked team they have played so far. Computers are not known for their ability to show respect.

@RobFromNorcross and @WolfDawg I know that SOS plays into their rating system but they use their own opinion as well. Everyone in Region 1 played down in class with the exception of Lovejoy, North Gwinnett, Newton, and Luella. they went 2-2 close win over Lovejoy by Colquitt (Great football team) Losses to Newton and NG (Great football team), and beating a bad Luella team. Here’s my question: Why is Camden County so high when they have a weak SOS. After NG, and their out-of-state opponent, the combined record for the teams they played are 28-37, they lost to the ONLY ranked team they’ve played so far as well. Alpharetta won their region, E.Coweta is playing for Region Runner-up this week, and Mundy’s Mill is playing for their region. Camden’s out of region scheduled was NG,(6A) Baker Co (FL), Beach (Sav) (3A) and Johnson (Sav)(3A) while Lovejoy’s was Mundy’s Mill,(5A) Colquitt Co, (6A) Alpharetta, (6A) and E.Coweta (6A). I know everyone has a reason why Lovejoy is ranked low in other polls BUT ask the other teams are ranked so high? What makes their schedule tougher than ours, at the end of the day, fluke or not, Newton beat Lowndes, so why isn’t a win over Newton better than a win over Lowndes?

Well said 33. They always focus on Lovejoy and it’s schedule. They never take into account what the others schedules look like. It is my premise that they are not willing to give Lovejoy credit because we beat who they all thought should have beaten us. Every week, from 2011 and 2012, in the playoffs, it was, “Lovejoy first test”. They went through both years without a problem. We lost in the Dome twice and still people doubt us.

Here we are in 13′ and people are still of the mind that we are not a factor because of our region. I remember people saying the same things they are saying now, they play such a soft region schedule, can they win against tougher competition. The answer is a resounding, YES.

Sportsnut – When your boys win a championship (Which I do believe will come ) it will not stop, When Camden was in region 3 we heard the same thing year after year, once we one a championship it went from how we played nobody to how we had an unfair advantage because we played nobody. Good luck to you guys in the playoffs.

@ Topper == I know. That is the nature of the beast or the mindset of the typical fan (homer). We will not worry about it though. We will come to play each week and expect to win. I wonder though, what will be said if we make it back to the Dome for a third time in a row? Given that many think we lost too much to be competitive, a mixed bag is what I expect.

That is something that has already been said the past 2 years. However, they changed to other reasons once we started to take out their favorites. The refs, the thugs, their hurt players, the announcers. Anything to make themselves feel better.

It is always our goal to win it all. We will get there.

November 6th, 2013

Sportsnut, until you win a championship or two, getting to the championship is not winning the championship. Some of the chatter may subside if the other teams come up to where you are. Right now Lovejoy is the only team in that region who are proven. That is why pollsters have “doubts” about Lovejoy. It is true that you guy’s have reached the finals 2 years in a row, the same team that beat Lovejoy also beat Colquitt and Camden. But you have to admit that Region 1 has Colquitt, Camden, Lowndes and Valdosta. This is a region of Champions and playoff powers. Lovejoy has a team that get’s it done on the field. Keep playing and winning and supporting your program.

RobFromNorcross

November 6th, 2013
8:05 pm

Sportsnut, I don’t see anyone saying that Lovejoy isn’t a good team. They just don’t play teams in the regular season that are a true test of a championship level team. So they are an unknown quantity. They will get a chance again to show what they are made of in the playoffs and if the last two seasons are an indication, Lovejoy will be a force.

Sportsnut

November 6th, 2013
8:54 pm

The way I see it, the teams that the other top schools play are not that tough either. I also know getting there is not the same as winning it. If we do win and you guy’s feel differently, there will be those who come along and take your place. Same tired excuses why their team did not make it and the same reasons we did.

The pollsters that have doubts about Lovejoy are out of towner’s and a bunch of HOMERS at ScoreAtlanta, that live on the northside and are not going to favor us anyway. It does not matter, it is just fun to talk about. Lovejoy will do it’s talking on the field, as usual.

Some of the states best have become a “W” on Lovejoys bio the past 2 years. Of course, that does not count. Might as well have been scrimmages. Kell, Ware Co., Warner Robins, Marietta, North Gwinnett and North Cobb, were alI, I repeat all, supposed to beat Lovejoy.

So you guy’s can continue to give me reasons why people think less of us than the other top teams and I will continue to go to games and come home a winner and then in December, make plans for tailgating. How many of you talking tailgated at the Dome the past 2 years? Norcross had a year and won it all. That was great. Lets dance again.

Sportsnut

November 6th, 2013

After some quiet reflection, I have seen the light. All of you are right. Lovejoy plays such weak competition, there is no way they can play with the states elite. Despite their lofty ranking, they just don’t have what it takes to hang. They lost so much that it is impossible to take them seriously. They barely beat East Coweta. Had to come from behind to do that.

Alpharetta had them beat but bad coaching decisions cost them. We only scored 23 points on Rockdale. Those games show we are not to be not ready. There are only 4 of the region teams playing .500 ball or better. In reality, that is better than some regions but we are by far the weakest. Never mind that region 2 has the smallest numbers in AAAAAA. Not enough kids to find good enough talent to field a team worthy of competing. So, yes, you guy’s are right. Region 2 is under par. Maybe the whole region should drop to 5 or maybe 4A.

I am sorry I have given you guy’s so much grief and will no longer talk about Lovejoy. I will stay around to talk about those with a realistic chance of winning it all.

Sportsnut, Mundy’s Mill??? #126 in the state (all classifications) You are the biggest homer of them all. You don’t just want everyone to respect Lovejoy, you want us all to bow and scrape because you beat Mundy’s Mill? Just let the playoffs start and show us how great you are. As I said above, you might have a great team but since your #2 in the region is not even close to playoff caliber, no one knows.

Sportsnut,

Even though you might think they did, Alcovy didn’t beat Newton, AND they lost to some team named Jones County. I thought you only posted stuff you know.

No one thinks that Alcovy is going to threaten Lovejoy’s perfect Region 2 record. You don’t need to try to pump them up as some kind of behemoth. We acknowledge that Lovejoy is the Mighty Ruler of Region 2.

And now I am back. Just as has been said, the playoffs are coming. We will not see any team that is not in Gwinnett or Region 1 in the Dome. How do I know? I have been told so by the Gods of the Gridiron. The first round will see all the Region 7 teams win. Region 1 will sweep region 3. Region 4 will go 3-1 against region 2. The one win from region 2 will not be who we all think.

Despite having only 2 teams with a winning record, Region 8 will make easy work of region 6. By the third round, it will be an all Gwinnett and south Georgia bracket, if it is possible. No room for pretenders. This will be a year of unprecedented accomplishment. Never before has the bracket contained so many teams from one area. Could it be a one town or city final?

Look for region 1, the toughest in the state, maybe the country, to place at least 3 teams in the final 8. This will be their year to live up to their billing as the toughest. Having 4 of the top 11 in the state in region 7 will ensure they are well represented in the final 8. That leaves no room for anyone else.

That is O.K. None of the rest of the 32 are deserving and could not win anyway.

Sportsnut, come on man. As you have said before, you guy’s play who is on your schedule. That list of teams that you listed, none of them have won a state title in the highest classification. The bottom line is Lovejoy plays for the post season, same as Camden County when they were in region 3. The difference with Lovejoy and Camden County then is Camden County scheduled out of state teams to fill out their schedule. Miami Central, Hoover, Glenville Ohio and ST Thomas Aq. I expect to see Lovejoy move through the playoffs, why? It is expected of them. You will never be able to fight on this blog by yourself as a Lovejoy supporter. If all fans had your passion this blog will be flooded with them. This maybe the year Lovejoy breakthrough becausethey don’t have the big name players as in previous years. They have athletes and football players. All of this remains to be seen, it has to play itself out.

Now that I am back to me. this is all I have to say. Lovejoy is coming to play ball. Friday, next week and so on.

@ItIsWhatItIs Hey man, I want to use a key point of your argument about no one in our region having won a state title in the highest class. You are correct BUT out of the 63 schools in 6A, only 11 schools have won in the largest classification (4A being the largest before 2000) and 5 of those teams are in Region one (Camden, Lowndes, Colquitt, Valdosta, and Tift), 1 is in Region 5 (Roswell), 2 are in region 7 (Peachtree Ridge and Norcross) and 3 are in Region 8 (Parkview, Brookwood, and Grayson) so that leaves 4 other regions with NO championships. I don’t think past championships should determine your SOS. I think it should be who you play and who they played that year. You are absolutely correct, Lovejoy does play for the post season, I think the issue that we have is that rankings bring revenue and exposure and being a graduate from Lovejoy, it is a positive thing for the kids in the area honestly and when we feel, as fans and former members of the program, as if we are looked over because we are not from North Atlanta, it’s a little frustrating. The reasons that we aren’t ranked as high or left out of certain polls is because the credible sources that are linked nationally won’t give Lovejoy it’s respect. I respect WolfDawg, RobFromNorcross and everybody else that say, “Just win one” I HOPE WE DO!!! LOL, but there can only be ONE, and just because you don’t win one, doesn’t take away from being a strong team by the standards of other teams. I mean just look at Region 1 this year, Score Atlanta has Camden ranked third and they’ve only decisively beaten the bottom half of their region and played some HORRIBLE Savannah teams and lost to the only ranked opponent they have played as well, and they said to SportsNut we (Lovejoy) play in the “weakest region” and our best win was against “Alpharetta” which is the “WORST BEST WIN OF ALL TOP 10 TEAMS” when Camden’s best win so far was against a 6-3 Valdosta team that barely beat a Lowndes team (And I know it’s a rivalry game) that lost to NEWTON. They have NC ranked 4, with two losses to unranked teams, one of which lost to Alpharetta. That’s why we get so passionate because we want the higher ups (North Atlanta pollsters) to give respect where respect is due. Does it make any sense?

RobFromNorcross

November 7th, 2013

Lovejoy fans – how much more respect can you get? You are ranked #2 in the classification by the AJC, the Georgia Sportswriter’s and GPB… The team that these three have ranked #1 (Colquitt) beat your team this year, so I don’t expect that you feel you should be ranked above them. We have already discussed that computers don’t understand “respect” so you can give up on that hope. They just crunch numbers and try to fit them into some order.

#@ RobfromNorcross == We know how it is from our perspective. I am not going to get into it. Just understand. We do have a different view.

Lhsalum33, you made ITISWHATITIS point. Lovejoy get’s no exposure because they have not won a championship. The only tema that they have played with credibility is Colquitt out of Region 1, the past 2 years Lovejoy has lost to Colquitt from region 1. Have you even looked at the region that Lovejoy sits in and the region that Camden sits in. Sportsnut is right Lovejoy plays for the playoffs, why? Their region does not provide the competition for them. Reminds me of the Camden County years in region 3. Since the Savannah schools did not provide competition they scheduled out of region games with the schools he posted. When Lovejoy joins these other programs and begin to not only put the Colquitts on their schedule, but national powers then they too will get the respect of the national medias. Right now Lovejoy waits until the playoffs to play top level teams. So they turn their season into a five game season, instead of the twelve before the playoffs.

Sportsnut, Good luck in the playoffs. Lovejoy could be a very dangerous team. Looking forward to some great football and may the best teams win.

@Countryhawg == Do not attribute that statement to me. It was not I who said that Lovejoy plays for the playoffs. Also, since you brought up national media, Lovejoy closed out 2012 as the # 83 team in the Nation.

@RobfromNorcross == Thank you and I extend the same to you. It is going to be some great football play in the coming weeks. I think it is strange, yet funny how people come on here year after year and tell me about us and themselves(their team). Then comes December and I am at the Dome as a fan of the participating team. I look forward to the same this year.

@Sportsnut- I hope Norcross gets the repeat visit to the Dome this year. There is nothing better than seeing your son playing and winning a State Championship except maybe a repeat. Either way though, it has been an awesome two years with many amazing games and wins. Since my son is off to play D1 college football in January, this playoffs is our last intense High School football experience. Can’t wait!

@RobfromNorcross == Is he the last? If you have not experienced the empty nest yet, let me tell you, it is wonderful. Good luck with the college life.
