Told you Jarvis would have Mays ready to play, it was one they had to have. Did Stephenson come out flat or Mays just beat them?
November 2nd, 201311:25 pm
Mays played as if their life depended on it and they were backed in a corner. They came out fighting and Stephenson ran into a buzz saw and got burned. Mays was relentless all night on defense. They looked similar to how Tucker plays! Next Fridays game at Lakewood should be a good one versus Tucker. The winner takes 1st place in the Region.
November 3rd, 201312:21 am
We are looking forward to the showdown at Lakewood on Friday.
November 3rd, 20136:01 am
How can Mays finish number one in the region? Tucker has not lost a game in the region. I think Mays has lost at least one region game?
November 3rd, 20138:16 am
Hickory Dickory Doc
Mays were on the clock
you said we would lose
but you look like a fool
Hickory Dickory Doc!!!
TICK TICK TICK TICK Boom!!!!!!!
Reminders to all, the games are won on the field; not in the stands nor on these blogs!!!!
November 3rd, 20138:20 am
Wow what a huge win for the RAIDER NATION!! This is the second top five team in the state that Mays have beaten. Hats off to Corey Jarvis and his staff. Seems like the Benjamin E. Mays Football program are bringing the THRILL back to the HILL!!
November 3rd, 20138:38 am
Now where are all of those “experts” that were calling for Jarvis to be fired after the first game loss to Carver.
It is a PROCESS to build a winning team and this is why the move was made to get rid of the previous coaching staff and bring in a proven winner. This is just the beginning because I can’t wait until we start seeing results from JV and middle school players after a few seasons under this staff.
Hats off to the current Raiders from a class of 1987 alumnus!
November 3rd, 20138:44 am
Mays has only 1 Region loss and if they beat Tucker then the Tigers will have only 1 Region loss also! It’s simple math!!!!!
November 3rd, 20139:00 am
Ha! Mays takes a BIG ‘W’ back to SW Atlanta! Folks have disrespecting our team and our coaches all season so we decided to show folks. Please believe Mays High School in the TRUTH!
November 3rd, 20139:10 am
@Sugarbear……ha! Love it. ALLLL that trash talking that Stephenson did….well we did our talking on Stephenson’s HOME field!! Raider Nation baby
November 3rd, 20139:26 am
@Donna Jones the HUMBLE Pie you made for JAB is good, it is good, it is so so GOOD, thank you very much. Now it’s time to prepare for the Tucker Tigers as it will be a great test for Mays going into the playoffs.
Boys on the SW side of ATL making noise, making us old school natives proud… Just stay humble and discipline you have what it takes to make a good run.
November 3rd, 20139:29 am
@Jab…Hahaha..Stephenson is exactly who we thought they were! Y’all got beat by 2 teams that moved up in classification go figure since you always talk about that 5A vs 4A. How does another slice of that humble Pie taste? Stephenson gets put out 1st round this yr
November 3rd, 20139:31 am
Can’t wait till next week at Lakewood. Should be a good game!
November 3rd, 20139:54 am
Not surprised Mays were leading MLK and Tucker in 4th quarter and tied in Stephenson in the 4th last year. Coaches couldn’t close not one game, that is why they’re gone. Congrats raiders
November 3rd, 201310:54 am
You got that a little backwards
They were tied with Tucker in the forth, they never had the lead.
Don’t Get 60 on The Board
WE ARE TUCKER
Run With Us or Run From Us
November 3rd, 201311:05 am
@Luv Football That Exactly! The talent level is not far apart in all these teams (top5 region 6), coaching and leadership among the students separates them. They are even unless Tucker shows differently. From the loins of the Red and Old Gold of SW Atlanta are the Columbia Blue and Yellow Gold, Mays High!!
The Thrill on the Hill!!!
November 3rd, 201311:43 am
Tiger4life do remember you been down in second half and didn’t win to late. The Dekalb 3 are good programs, but other than your state championship team Mays has always had better talent. My opinion
November 3rd, 201312:05 pm
If Tucker’s has one region lost and Mays has one region lost who is the champions?
Mays 2008, and 2010
November 3rd, 201312:29 pm
Good game last night, Mays Defense played great, looking forward to next week
November 3rd, 20131:23 pm
JAB: I feel your pain on the lost to Mays. I sat in the stands Friday night and saw NSWR out-gain and out- pass WR-Demons on a sloppy field. Our QB threw-four interceptions in the red zone. With a WR win against Lakeside-Evans this coming Friday, we will be on the other side of the brackets where Tucker lies. Well as they saying goes, “On any Friday or Sat. night”
November 3rd, 20131:38 pm
Congrats Mays High.
Region 6 is Crazeee! this year……The game this Friday should be a doozy. GPB and CSS, bring your cameras. This one should be awesome.
BTW, ya gotta love what Arabia has done this year as well. They are definitely going to be a team to be reckoned with if this pattern continues.
Reg-6 going into the playoffs should really make some noise!
November 3rd, 20132:13 pm
If Mays beats Tucker, both will finish 8-1 in the region.
first tiebreaker is head to head and Mays would have beaten Tucker.
November 3rd, 20132:22 pm
November 3rd, 20132:27 pm
Sorry I was speechless on the greatest team in DeKalb going down. Two losses, wow.
November 3rd, 20132:44 pm
Hey RaiderMom 71 , let’s not forget it was SENIOR NIGHT for them as well and they laid down !!! It was beautiful Mays came to town bader than Santa Claus like the Grench that stole Senior Night!!!! Bad to the bone and the Refs couldn’t even help poor ole Stephenson from the HILL!!!!
November 3rd, 20132:52 pm
Mays High Let’s Go !!!!
November 3rd, 20134:13 pm
Congrats Mays on the big win. Keep it up.
Stephenson fin to be on that road
November 3rd, 20135:12 pm
Ok stephenson fans that game yall lost was an big game because this game decided if stephenson would have one playoff game or not.But now since they loss stephenson is number 3 in the region and Mays is number 2 and tucker is 1 .So that mean GRIP WILL BE RIDING THAT CHARTER BUS BACK HOME AFTER THEY LOSE IN THE FIRST ROUND.
Benjamin E. Mays Raider for Life.
November 3rd, 20135:54 pm
Congratulations to the Mays High Raiders, great defense tonight. Total team effort.
Al Davis said it best. “Just win Baby” !!!!!!
November 3rd, 20136:59 pm
The final score was 14-7, so Mays was up 7-0 at what point in the game?
I have a great memory, I still remember what I had for breakfast my first day of kindergarten.
It was true indeed a close game, with Tucker getting the go ahead score on a interception return for a touchdown.
November 4th, 20137:06 am
@Luv Football I respect your football program but I do feel that your are reaching by saying Mays has always had better talent. Now if you are talking musicians, then maybe. I mean Mays did produce the Goodie Mob and Chilli of TLC. But if we are talking football, I would have to disagree. The only player I really remember from Mays is Kelly Campbell. Don’t remember Mays producing any Super 11, not saying they didn’t but I don’t remember.
November 4th, 20138:29 am
@ Luv Football. You say Mays has had better talent than Tucker. I guess that is just your opinion. Could not be based on anything tangible like wins, region titles, championships and producing d1 talent that has produced on the next level.
November 4th, 20138:31 am
But I am glad to see the hill is back.
ALL TUCKERRED UP
November 4th, 20139:08 am
@JAB That was a tough loss!!! It is extremely difficult to go on the road all the time in the playoffs. Last year Tucker had that problem It seems we always have to go down to NSWR tough place to play!!! You ay have to down play your playoff hopes & be a little more humble.
November 4th, 20139:41 am
Congrates to Mays on their IMPORTANT region victory over Stephenson, I for one was not SHOCKED, the Raiders have always field talent and now they appear to have the RIGHT leadership in place. This victory ensure at least ONE important point for the Raiders – a playoff home game for a APS public school, which hasn’t happen in recent years. Having the Raiders apart of our region playoff teams will only strengthen region 6 credibility – it’s not like Mays is not use to post season action.
Not much for me to add from a posting point of view. My Tucker blogging team has made it clear, what and who the 2013 Tigers are. My region 6 bloggers have made excellent comments around the current status of region 6 play. Our MLK bloggers are increasing learning that there are more teams then just two, if you want to be crown region champs. Our Stephenson bloggers, well, let’s just hope they are learning a valuable lessons, there are others that do not fear and can beat the Jaguars.
Let’s put a couple points in place about 5A region 6. When the region was announced in the last GHSA re-classification, any knowledgeable fan would have seen the depth and the challenges that it brings to become REGION champ, as well as one of the four playoff representatives, we already see the difference between year one (2012) and year two (2013). If you want to play more than 10 games, you MUST be prepared to do battle in at least 5-6 games of the regular season. Slip up (game time decision), not focus (this week’s game, not in the past or future), and build on past failures and successes, you will be disappointed. If GHSA continue to maintain this alignment, for future competition, region 6 will be special for ALL HS football fans for years to come.
“WE ARE TUCKER” – Currently 9-0 & #1 in the REGION – The Tigers have been RELEASED!!!
REGION 6, the best in GA 2013 5A Football……

@TUC2003…. Tucker just start putting out D1 talent over past 16 years. In the mid 80 to mid 90 it was nothing to Bobby Bowden, Pat Dye, Bo Shambechler, Vince Dooley, Jimmy Johnson, The Ohio State coach just name a few. In 1987 Mays went 0-10 and had 5 D1.. Miami,Alabama,Ole Miss,Miss State, Texas. Mays always got talent on the Gridiron, Hoops and we even played Marist for championship in baseball. Little history for you.
