North Paulding 62, Allatoona 46

After failing to score on consecutive possessions in the second quarter and watching an early 14-3 lead turn into a 17-14 deficit, North Paulding’s rapid-fire offense picked up the tempo even more.

The Wolfpack was virtually unstoppable the rest of the night, scoring on its next seven possessions to cruise to a 62-46 victory over Allatoona in a key Region 5-AAAAA game on Friday. The only time North Paulding didn’t score the rest of the night was its final possession, when the Wolfpack took a knee at the Allatoona 37 as the game ended.

The victory leaves the Wolfpack in the driver’s seat to win the first region championship in school history. North Paulding is tied for first place with South Paulding but beat the Spartans earlier this season and can clinch the title with a victory against Villa Rica next weekend.

North Paulding finished with 660 yards of total offense. Quarterback Chase Noonan led the way, completing 16 of 24 passes for 464 yards and six touchdowns. The scoring passes covered 35, 80, 31, 93, 22 and 69 yards, and he ran for a 3-yard touchdown with 1:44 to play in the second quarter that gave the Wolfpack a 28-17 halftime lead.

Kayden Bishop, the team’s leading receiver, had 150 yards receiving and scored on passes of 80 and 31 yards. D.J. Owens also caught two touchdown passes and finished with 147 yards receiving. Corn Collins rushed for 152 yards on 19 carries and scored on runs of 1 and 11 yards. The Wolfpack finished with 196 yards rushing.

Allatoona held its own offensively, particularly in the running game. Josh Bettistea rushed for 181 yards on 36 carries and had two short touchdown runs in the second half, and Russell Halimon had 176 yards and a 30-yard touchdown on 14 carries. DJ Ezell caught two touchdown passes for the Buccaneers.

The game was delayed for about 20 minutes late in the third quarter when North Paulding’s Meshach Mays suffered a neck injury. He was taken off the field on a stretcher and left the stadium in an ambulance, but he did raise both arms into the air as he left the field.

Congrats North on the Region.

A total lack of defense on either side of the ball. The difference was three turnovers by Allatoona which account for 21 of North’s points. Without the turnovers, it would of been who ever had the ball last. I have a feeling that both teams will be in trouble in playoffs if they play a team with a good solid defense. Allatoona looked to be a three man front most of the night giving North forever in the pocket to find receivers. Although, North was in a 8 man front, they could not stop the running of Allatoona.

Hope 5AAAAA does well in the playoffs.

Com’on Average Joe. The score was 62-31 halfway through the 4th quarter. I don’t think it was a couple of turnovers. Allatoona scored a couple of meaningless touchdowns at the end of the game. I have all the respect for Allatoona because they have kicked our butts every year. But last night, the Wolfpack manhandled Allatoona. It’s okay to admit that.

Joe needs a reality check for serious! With 5:47 left in the fourth quarter it was 62-31 North. Now you can come on here and talk about turnovers and thump your chest all you want. The fact of the matter is that game was locked down and there wasn’t nothing your little Buccaneers could do about it. Our Defense is a work in progress and steadily getting better every game. Don’t worry your pretty little head. I’m positive that North Paulding will represent Region 5 well and show a lot of people what class is.

Average Joe is right about the lack of defense on both sides of the ball. Congrats to North, but both the pass and run defenses for both teams was HORRIBLE. imam going to revise my playoff predictions and think that Reg5 and Reg7 split their first round playoff games. North and South winning because of offense and Allatoona losi g because of a lack of defense and a one dimensional offense.

The remark about ‘class’ is a tricky one………The nasty Uncalled called penalty by the one Allatoona player was indeed disgusting and a disgrace for the school, and the game officials…… but retaliatory comments by North fans such as “break his leg”, “you suck”, “kill that guy”, “he’s gonna get jumped”, were not examples of class. That along with both student sections flipping each other off was also an embarrassment. The North team and coaches exhibited great sportsmanship…….now if we fans could just demonstrate the same.

@wolfpack nation,

North won the game and in convincing score fashion however North did NOT allow them to score in the 4th, and North did not shut down their running game. Be real. Allowing 350 yards rushing is NOT shutting it down, or stopping it well. Congrats on the win.

@wolfpack nation

Yes I was there……NORTH did NOT let them score. I’d like to think THEY did, but bottom line is the North offense should have taken time off the clock after it was 62-38, and poor play calling put North them in a hole that ultimately led to the safety. No biggie but I just like to keep it REAL.

Great win, but throwing away points at the end of a game isn’t something that was intended by the coaches or the players. Did it affect the outcome?……..no….but should serve as a lesson that you play all 48 minutes and not 43.

I’d put North’s class against any in the region and hell yeah I’m biased, but I’m also REALISTIC too. We can agree to disagree. Bottom line is Allatoona is simply not enough. Boasting about scoring on our JV? Really? Six of your starting Varsity players dressed for that game and played till half time while they ran the score up. For what? I’ll let you point out the names of those players since you were there obviously. Bottom line is, after next week, we’ll be the #1 seed. You all have been in a small region too long and now it’s catching up to you when you finally get put in the region you belong in. All things being equal, I’ll run with this Pack. Good day sir.

@RealisticFan – What do you see the outcome of EP/Allatoona game being. If East wins they will be 3rd seed.

@twmooney

I am a North fan. The rules for playing varsity players in JV games is the same for all teams and if other teams play starters and North elects not to who cares. Boasting about it I agree by Allatoona is not good. I merely made my comments because I heard each of those statements come from North fans I the stands, and we need to be careful as fans not tarnish the sportsmanship exhibited by the North coaches and players

@FNL
I still see a one dimensional Allatoona winning 24-14 or something like that. If East can protect MW even a little bit then the Allatoona secondary could be ripe for the taking. Never knows Allatoona might even still be in shock next week from last nights loss.

@rest of Wolfpack nation.

Got to stay focused, Villa Rica would like nothing more then spoil the Region championship party. They are still in the mix for a playoff spot and that makes them dangerous. North should be able to take care of business, but a great week of practice and focus is needed.

North Paulding or Allatoona students ever show class, I have been to games for both schools playing different schools, and they are both classless period. South and PC seem to have the most sportsmanship, and well we all know how the East fans do it..

As a North fan I have a new respect for East. Apparently when you’re kicking everyone’s butts, you don’t have any class.

There were a few things said while our boy lay injured on the ground that should not have been said. There are a few North parents that do cross the line. But I have yet to see a program that gets as much fan support as North, win or lose. Many away games, our fans outnumber the home team.

We have a great group of Seniors this year. I’m glad to see all of their hard work pay off. But they need to bring it against Villa Rica. This now becomes the most important game of the year!

North needs to stay focused and finish regular season strong this week going into the playoffs. But I will say on the play where the kid from North got hurt, I would have been put in hand cuffs and taken to jail for doing that on the street! Yes its football, but if you watch replay, there is no doubt that Alatoona player was trying to hurt that kid! Anybody who doubt that is lying to themselves. It was shameful that it happened in front of a ref and no penalty was called?! How do you grab a kids helmet, pick him up by the helmet, twist it off the kids head and slam his head into the ground and not have a penalty called?! Watch the replay! Kid should have got kicked out and suspended for next game. As far as the fans reaction, it goes beyond football. How would you react if you witnessed a crime, because it was nothing more than a mugging in front of the North side of the field. North kid is lucky he is only missing next weeks game, and not spending the rest of his life in a wheelchair! Of course nothing happens to the other kid, he is celebrated by his coaches and teammates. Don’t say they weren’t because I saw coaches and players high fiving the guy! Sickening! So get off some of the fans reaction for getting pissed off! I think it was more directed at refs not calling anything than the kid itself, but after they new nothing was going to be done to penalize that kid or team it got out of hand. Not everybody reacts the same, and its an emotional game for the kids and parents too. So lets not judge people by there initial reactions. It was a scary moment and people just react differently, but that does not make them bad people. I was proud of the kids at North that they knew it hurts them more to beat them on the score board, and not retaliate. The score was a beat down as it was! And the best part is the kid is okay! Thank God!

North has alot to be proud of, that program is really coming along and with a really good youth and middle school program i think its only gonna stay good. That said, you have a really good senior laden team with a very good senior qb, so i firmly believe the Bucs pay you back next year as we are very young. Allatoona is going to win the region the next 2 years, count on it. But i will say this, the Bucs have always played good defense and this year the defense has been awful. No push out of the d line they are small and put no pressure on the QB, and the db’s look slow and out of position. Coach Varner has to figure out his D if he hopes to take this team where he wants it to go. Coach Varner is a great coach, i think he’ll figure itout…but anyways, great job Wolfpack, i think you guys make it to the semifinals in the playoffs. I hope your kid with the neck injury is okay?

I’m one of the fans that got upset about the dirty play by #10 and his chest thumping thinking he’s a bad ass. His team is getting thumped and that’s the way you act? That’s a product of your raising and I don’t care who you are. The ref that was starring at the play when it occurred should be suspended as well. He can argue he didn’t see anything, and that’s his fault for not watching the play side of the field, within 10 yds of him. If you want to call me out for anything I said when this occurred, feel free. Don’t hurt my feelings at all and I’ll stand up for Meshach or any other Wolfpack just the same. And if you think mine or other parents reaction to this was an example of no class, you clearly don’t know the difference between class and ass.

@WolfPack Nation – Have we heard if the county is going to redraw lines again? We (my subdivision) were in the North Paulding district and were moved into the East Paulding district a few years ago. I heard the county likes to keep all its schools in the same division for financial reasons (travel cost). Not sure if there are plans to do this again.

WolfPack Nation

As of now no because the redrawing of the lines was recent. Like 2 years recent. Even then North would still go to 6A. The area around North has simply shot up! Major neighbor hoods attract many people! I have heard some chatter about a “West Paulding” in the makings
