Guess Peach Co. still not ready for prime time this year. Will be sad if they come to WACO and we don’t get a epic game… SPX looking at a #3 seed and maybe a SPX vs. Cartersville 2nd round match up….

Honestly, SoW, I wasn’t too thrilled at the prospect of a #2 seed and seeing North Oconee again.in the first round. I prefer to watch Kawon Bryant from a distance. Congrats to BT on a tough win and good luck the rest of the way.

I like Hart co. for the 2nd seed in region 8 and SPX will beat Decatur easy and BT will beat Cedar Grove… So region 6 will be WA, BT, SPX, and Cedar Grove because they beat Decatur head to head…

Son of Waco you surely run your mouth for not having won a state championship since……I’ll wait. What do you know, here’s what I know Decatur beat Blessed (potential region champ}. Decatur was the ONLY team to shutout McNair. So before you say SPX will beat Decatur “easy” {easily WACO education} slow your role. I don’t hide behind some anonymous screen name either. I’m pretty sure you thought Pius would be Blessed. That’s why you have to line up and play.

So SPX “easily” beat Decatur 47-0 last year, WA “easily” beat Decatur 37-7, and CG “easily” beat Decatur 37-3 this year.. @Eric said they was the only team to shutout a 1-8 team… Guess I better change my pick then…

6AAA is a very tough region with WA, BT, Decatur, CG, and Pius. WA now must wait for this Friday’s games and hope CG does take down BT. We’ll see, but WA would love another shot at Trinity!

Congrats to BT on the win, well played. Question for anyone who knows the rules for GA high school. Didnt matter invthe outcome at all but BT tried a 47 yard field goal that came up short in the 2nd half. The officials gave Pius the ball at the 20, not from where it was kicked. Why is that? Why wouldn’t all teams try 60 yard field goals if a miss is a touchback?

BT is the best team in 6AAA, hands down. Replacing 17 starters from last year, we knew it was going to take a few g’s to get some consistency and now the team has arrived. Tim McFarlin is the best coach in the state and has BT rocking year in and year out. We gave the game away to Decatur, otherwise, we would be undefeated in the Region. We will take care of business this week and go strong into the playoffs. 6-AAA now belongs to BT, this year, and for all future years.

Last year WaCo really? Pius, Woodward, not Blessed didn’t shut out that 1-8 team as you say. Blessed I was at that game, you didn’t “give it away” you lost. If this, if that you lost and that’s okay. Just like Blessed teams hit their stride at different times and maybe Decatur hit theirs against Blessed when Decatur realized blessed is very vanilla and Devatur has better athletes. IJS let it play itself out. No one myself included thought Pius could lose two in a row and look

@BThomer dad if Pius doesn’t “give the game away” by missing an extra point who knows. Along the path to a championship every team gets a break. Blessed got their break last night and now who knows, that may catapult them on a playoff run.

BTHomerDad is right, Stringer Bell, Bedford, and Hamilton – BT’s Jr. Program is also now up and coming. Check out the BT 7th Grade Team – this team dominated SPX, Woodward, Lovett, GAC, Westminster, and Marist and then beat the 5A State Champion program Gainesville. And when I say dominated, I mean dominated. This team could play up and beat 8th and 9th grade teams. BT is the program to beat for years to come! I agree with BTHomerDad!!!

Eric Bedford – Decatur better athletes? Really? Give me a break! Decatur and Cedar Grove have always had better athletes from a “combine” standpoint but are the typical “better athlete” team – no chemistry, no heart, and consistently lose to teams with better discipline and better coaching. Not itimidated Eric !!! Was St. Pius and BT intimidated by Buford and Cartersville last year, when it was obvious both of those teams had “better athletes”??? Canes Fan even admitted it, BT is the real deal. BT has the best coach in the state, and plays disciplined, system football. Just like Pius. That formula breeds success over “better athletes” anyday. Just ask Cedar Grove’s McCrary last year what he thought of BT’s “lesser, slower, athletes” lol :) !!! NOT !!!

Also, in sports trash talk has been apart of the culture forever but what I do here is speak more facts than trash talk. I mean if SPX beat Decatur 47-0 last year why would “I” think they would do any better this year…
If Peach Co. has lost every big game this year early/late why would “I” think they will be ready for another big game in the playoffs..

BT homer dad and BT big time fan. Grow up yeah BT is good but woodward has talent and Coach Gregg Vandegriff who is hands down a way better coach than Tim Mcfarlin. It will be a good matchup for years to come but do you honestly think that BT can hang with the amount of diversity in talent and Coaching that Woodward academy has. BT will lose to CG week 10 and Woodward will take the region championship.

All BT fans- You talk a lot now when you barely beat SPX but when you got beat by decatur you had nothing to say. YOU got lucky against Woodward, With them replacing 9 starters on defense and 6 on offense they are in the same situation as you. They play with almost 13 starters from 2016 and 5 from 2015 with their dominating freshman class coming in BT will not be able to hang. Looking forward to week 10 so woodward can relax and watch it all play out. They will win region championship.

I like to stay under the radar. Trash talking does nothing but put us in the spot light, that is not where we need to be. We need to stay how we are now…Undefeated and quiet…we will earn what we get.

History is history. All teams have some, good and bad. This is definitely an outlet for some. Lots of constructive dialogue and alot of trash talking too. Some worthwhile and alot not supported by facts. I agree @HOUSE OF PAIN 2013. Nothing wrong with being quiet…..there are many people who cannot do that even if they tried. However, to all that are not quiet….may you feel free to express yourselves…..it is your right to do so.

Be proud of your team. Cherish the past and the present. Let it play out on the field with good athletic play and sportsmanship. Play to WIN and have fun……Championship or no championship.

No one needs an education on WACO’s history. We have one….that’s accomplishment enough to cherish and keep playing for.

Only 7 current AAA teams have won state since our last championship. We play 2 of those teams in our region. Only 2 of the 7 have more championships that WACO. Both have had championship droughts longer than our current drought but you just keep playing football as they did and we do as well.

So, just play HARD……WIN…….and try to add to your history.

@ SPX Fan:
1) Yes, WA is 8-2 w/a bye this wk.
2) Under the scenario you describe — CG beats BT and SPX beats DHS — then WA is 1 seed, but CG, BT, and SPX would all have 2 region losses, w/all 3 of their records being 1-1 against the other 2.
3) The GHSA constitution says that, if the region has voted on a tiebreaker, it controls. I unfortunately don’t know what the region’s reps. have decided.
4) The GHSA “mini-game tiebreaker” — described in the constitution — is available ONLY if the region has voted to use it. Since it would involve mini-games the Monday after the regular season ends, I doubt the region has adopted it. But that’s just a guess. I expect your coaches and/or AD can tell you Mon. what the situation would be in the event 3 teams have 2 losses and 1-1 records against each other.
Thanks.

All I know is that the WACO team I know is not scared to be on anyone’s radar and success puts you their anyway.. I mean how can WACO be ranked #2 in AAA and top 5 in all classification according to max and not be notice.. Also, I don’t just judge success on how many regions or state titles WACO have because just being a power program in middle GA for 20+ years is good for me.. We are just 4 years into being a spread team and I know our time will soon come…

@ron is still a weirdo who might have made those Waco names up, but I could care less what anyone thinks because I don’t try to tell anyone what their opinion should be or how they should talk on a blog…. So mute me if you don’t want to hear me…

BTpops and Johnny Boy – you gals are way off base :) . No way is Woodward HC a better coach than Tim McFarlin. What planet are you gals from? If he is, then why has McFarlin OWNED HIM and gone 3-0 head to head last three years since coming to BT? Because McFarlin knows how to run system ball and win no matter what type of talent he has. Woodward, that is moneyball and Vandergriff just bringing kids in from all over the ATL, and they still don’t win. Can’t remember last time WA won a Region. And your underclassman have NOTHING on BT’s underclassmen. Looking forward to BT beating Cedar Grove and taking the Region Championship.

@BTHomers your coach is pretty good but no sane coach with a playoff game on the line would let a holder on a fake FG throw a pass. I don’t care what scouting report he saw or how many films he saw regular season ok try it but the kid never threw a pass before in a game and again you are in the playoffs. Risk vs Reward come on who does he think he is the Mad Hatter at LSU? Result Canes win ! Maybe BT wins in OT or maybe they rough the kicker and you get a 1st down but never never let a kid threw a pass with your season on the line like that.
Your coach is good not great and WA yours hasn’t won anything so great should not enter the conversation with any program short of Buford

BT fans, you might want to rein that cart in and get it back behind the horse. A one point win on Pius missing an extra point and turning the ball over for your go ahead score is nice, but I would hold off on the dynasty talk. Buford is the program in AAA and look unstoppable, and Coach Standard is the “standard” for coaches in AAA, check what he’s accomplished: Coach Standard enters his 13th year as Head Football Coach and has the second best record at St. Pius X behind legendary Coach George B. Maloof with a career record of 108-37. The 2012 team finished as the AAA State-Finalist and ranked #2. The 2011 team finished with an 12-1 record and a final ranking of #8 in Class AAA. The 2010 team finished with a 9-3 record and a 2nd round trip to the State Playoffs. The 2009 team finished with an 12-1 record and a seventh trip to the AAA State Playoffs and a Quarter-Final appearance losing to eventual State Champion in overtime. The season included a 28-3 victory over archrival Marist in the season opening game, The 2008 team finished the season with a 9-2 record and a sixth appearance in the AAA State Playoffs, the 2007 team finished with an 8-4 record and a fifth trip to the AAAA State Playoffs, the 2006 team finished with the best record in 38 years with a 11-3 record and a trip to the Georgia Dome for the State Semi-Finals, the Golden Lions finished with a #4 state ranking. In 2005 team finished 5-5 and for only the 2nd time in the past seven years did not advance to the State Playoffs. His 2004 squad posted a 8-3 record and a third straight appearance in the state playoffs. His 2003 squad posted a 10-3 record and a trip to the State Quarter Finals-the best record in the past 35 years. That season was highlighted by a 20-17 victory over Marist which broke a 21 year drought in this great rivalry. The 2003 Golden Lions finished with a final state ranking of 7th in class AAAA. His 2002 squad posted a 7-4 record, advancing to the State Playoffs. Coach Standard played for the legendary Coach George B. Maloof and is one of five classmates of 1980 to coach football.

PiusDad- Thanks for adding some facts to this fantasy. BTHomerDad- let me add that BT is not INMHO even the best team SPX played this season. The BT fan rants are borderline bizarre. You won Friday by 1 on a missed PAT. Hats off to the BT kids for a hard fought game. A young SPX team has spent the season with everyone we play trying to knock the king off the hill after last years march to the Dome and 7 point loss to Buford. Going to the Dome last year almost feels like a curse for a team young in several key positions. SPX has not given up on anything and will step up to challenge Friday. Reminder CG lost by 3 Friday to WA, and I wish them the best.
