Sporstnut might be right. I’m from Packer Land (colquitt), other than Hoover (Alabama) which is # 5 in the nation, Lovejoy is far and away the toughest team we have played.

I’d love to get a re-match with Lovejoy. Especially @North Cobb. But if we gotta go back down to Lovejoy we’ll get em this time. We had Lovejoy on the ropes but let them back in it. Something special about this team. By know you know about #15 Queen, but #1 Gibbs, #6 Herrod, #5 McGee, and #3 Albright don’t get enough credit. The defense is coming together nicely, as we are getting a better push up front this year and causing interceptions. These boys are some baaaad dudes. If they put it all together on ya it’s nighty-night!

EAST PAULDING…Last year’s UNDEFEATED REGION CHAMPS in 5AAAAA, THIS YEAR:

The EAST team is probably going to be 6 / 4, losing to TWO PAULDING COUNTY teams AND missing the playoffs for the only the 2nd time since 05. This is NOT what is expected from EAST PAULDING teams!

EAST needs a NEW HEAD COACH more than OBAMACARE needs a new website!!! Although both have about as many problems and the person in charge of BOTH have NO CLUE!!!

Coaching candidates for 2014 PLEASE go to:http://www.eastpauldingfootball.com and click the boosters tab then send your resumes to the club President, V.P. & Alumni Association..can’t hurt and maybe this will get the ball rolling! .

TICK…TICK…TICK…SPUTTER…COUGH…POOF…DONE FOR 2013!

PJ,
Valdosta played Colquitt even for 4 quarters. If not for the mis-handled punt. That is why when you have two evenly matched teams, penalties and turnovers play a huge part. I watched both games and I think that Valdosta played Lovejoy played Colquitt evenly tough, both had the same result.
Statistically speaking Colquitt had 159 yards rushing and 255 passing against Lovejoy. Colquitt had
96 yes passing against Valdosta and 138 yards rushing.

@ Just saying == are you saying Valdosta is better than Lovejoy because of the stats from the Colquitt vs Lovejoy game compared to the stats from the Valdosta vs Colquitt game or is this because PJ said Lovejoy was the toughest team they have played?

Of course another way to look at it might be that Lovejoy is the Russian skating pair in the 2002 Olympics. The Canadians skated a perfect final program. Despite a very clearly flawed program the Russians were still awarded the Gold over the Canadians. The French judge admitted later that they were “influenced” to give the nod to the Russians. Judges from Russia, China, Ukraine, Poland, and France favored the flawed Russian team.

In this case the relatively unbiased computer rankings have things about right. While the rankings from “media” sources seem to have an apparent bias with a higher rating for a team that has lost the only game they played against a ranked opponent.

I am pleased to see the computers give about the same rankings to Hughes and Lovejoy for about the same season performance. What on earth happened to the respect being requested for weaker divisions; like Region 3?

Fortunately the playoffs will resolve these little issues, comrade.

Now this is interesting:

Suwanee – 3 ranked teams
Warner Robbins – 2 ranked teams
Powder Springs – 2 ranked teams
The rest of GA – at most 1 ranked team

Maybe someone else is aware of towns with more than 1 ranked team? I only spotted those 3 towns.

@sportsnut i feel that the pack toughest opponent was LJ and Valdosta….but the most complete team that pack has faced was HOOVER .. since hoover beat the pack 24-10 they have outscored their last 8 opponents.by a whooping 329-43. we held hoover to 3pts thr whole 1st half….but then they went to making big plays on pack and kind of wore us down….not taking nothing from LJ or VALDOSTA but i feel hoover was our better opponent,,,but not toghest opponent…since the hoover lost,,i think pack has grown up and learned from that loss, and most importantly learning how 2 win the close ones

Suwannee Owns – A lot of towns in GA only have one high school. What’s your point? Because y’all have that cluster of people in Gwinnett makes you better? How many titles in the highest class does Gwinnett have? Any class, except for Buford. Or Cobb? Even if you had most of’em I’d rather live somewhere else. But the fact is, Gwinnett does NOT have many titles, even with ALL those schools. So, I ask you again, what’s your point?

Sportsnut

October 30th, 2013
8:19 pm

@Mighty Wings == You know better than I do.

@We Own Suwanee == I am truly happy for you. In regards to the “media” bias, Lovejoy has earned what they have. It has nothing to do with bias. If their region is so soft, meaning they don’t play anyone, why are they where they are? Why have they played for the championship 2 years running, with a shot at a third?

You can’t make it just go away. We won’t do that . If you want to play for the state championship, you have to beat all comers. Sure we would have liked to win both those games but it is what it is. We lost. No excuses, for either game.

Your team has to win. Then you can have the benefit of the doubt. Right now, concerning your team, there is doubt. The local prognosticators agree because they know what Lovejoy brings to the table. They know when we come to play, play we will. Play well we will. There is no doubt.

Yeah, we lost to much. We don’t have any replacements. We don’t have the pop. to choose from. We only have 2 middle schools and one little park league so we lack what others have. A talent pool.

Just saying

October 30th, 2013
9:02 pm

Sportsnut, not at all. PJ said that Lovejoy was the toughest team that they had faced. I said statistically speaking. The stats reveal that Lovejoy gave up 415 yards of offense while Valdosta only gave up 234 yards of offense. I also said both had the same result, a loss. I never said Valdosta was a better team. However the stats say that Valdosta’s defense was better against Colquitt. However again, Valdosta and Lovejoy both lost the game. Stats say Colquitt had a tougher time against Valdosta than they did against Lovejoy.

@sportsnut Please stop explaining . Two years ago we wasn’t good enough. Made the championship. Last year didn’t have discipline a bunch of thugs and hoodlums I think is the names they gave us. Made the championship. This year we lost too many seniors. Lost our defensive coach. We are too small. Always a reason why Lovejoy shouldn’t eat at the same table with Ga. Elite teams. But as I look through everyone’s schedule every team has two maybe three tough teams on there schedule. What make the elite teams better when they run through there seven team soft schedule different from Lovejoy seven team soft schedule . Lovejoy still have to beat the elite teams to get to the Dome. An we have two years in a row. Oh I forgot we are ranked # 2 in the state behind a colquitt team who prayed very hard the last 53 seconds of that game.

MADDBALL

October 30th, 2013
10:47 pm

@ Football parent you said we prayed very hard the last 53 sec of the game…why is that? we held your high flying offense in check the damn near the whole game until the last 2 minutes. your qb neely was throwing jump ball to your 6′5 receiver preston williams hoping he could out jump our smaller db’s and he did just that…..those passes were just thrown up 4 grabs bc he was 6′5……………………….The defending state runner-up Wildcats marched from their own 25 to first down at the Packers 7 with under 2 minutes remaining, but after three plays and two penalties, the Wildcats faced a fourth-and-goal from the Packers 5………………………….stats from the game…………………Neely completed 15-of-30 passes for 226 yards for Wildcats with Williams grabbing six for 174 of those yards.

Jeremiah Kirkland rushed for 99 yards, but it took 21 carries to get there………………The Packers rolled up 383 yards against the Wildcats.s

Colquitt overcame 82 yards in penalties to lead 14-7 at the half….
King rushed for 100 yards in the first half and Mobley completed 7-of-12 passes for 122 yards……so pack had 82 yds of penalties in the 1st half……total yds cc383 lj 325….and 80yd came with 2min left in the game….so no you are lucky lj didnt get their doors blown off from all the penalties n mistakes we had…basically we tried 2 give you the game,,,but you didnt want it bad enough

The second season begins soon… and the odds should go like this There are 46 teams out of 53 in 6A above Macon… so odds say the 46 6a teams should have won the last 40 something highest classification state championships…. And I think ya’ll have won the last 3 and (1) well you all split one in 2006… So There is not much to brag about with %s like that….
And those that are on and on bragging about getting to the big game?????? and never winning, may be enough to brag to your neighbors, but I wouldn’t think it carries much weight by these fans on this post board.

Now when ya’ll do win the next 29-40 state championships in 6a then bring on all that bragging and it may catch some “”"”at a boy’s “”"”

@battleaxekid – You are presenting a logical fallacy. You say the north teams should have won the last 40 championships in the highest classification but you forget that most of these schools didn’t exist 40 years ago. The numbers would change if you factored in the year all these schools were opened. Take away the Valdosta numbers and the rest of the schools have done well but not the percentages change dramatically. Even with the Valdosta numbers, if you look at the number of football playing years of the south vs the north, it evens out a lot. Go back and find the story on teams quickest to the region and state championships and look where most of the fast starters come from. Heck, Archer is 8-0, region champs and has the chance to go deep this year. They’ve been open 5 whole years! Peachtree Ridge opened in 2003 and shared the championship in 2006.

Most people have heard it said that “football is a religion” in Georgia. We worship on the field on Friday night and from a pew on Sundays.

There is little doubt that the quality of football in Georgia is amazing. My daughter went to Williams college in MA, and I am certain the local High School teams could beat that college team. At least the HS teams are bigger, faster, with better runners and more accurate QBs.

South GA showed us all the way to play top tier football at this level and with this intensity. Some teams in the rest of the State have caught up but year after year teams currently in Region 1 continue to make a statement about how to play football in HS. And I don’t think anyone has caught up to the support South GA shows for their teams. When Camden or Colquitt (et. al.) come north for a playoff game they fill the visitor stands.

Regardless of who wins this thing; thank you South GA for blazing a trail that gives us all a special treat on Friday nights for a few months of the year.

@Sportsnut: “It is almost like we (Lovejoy) are America and S/A and Max & Max are the Russian judges.”

Interesting analogy, except that it breaks down when considering the ratings are completely objective and Olympic scoring is subjective.

In this case, the subjective polls favor Lovejoy.

As always, Sportsnut, I appreciate and respect your insight and passion, but there’s no anti-Lovejoy equation :-)

Best of luck to Lovejoy proving the ratings wrong in the playoffs.

For two years we’ve been the # 2 team in the State first behind 4A Tucker and last year behind 6A Norcross. But at the beganing of the season we barely make the top ten. @camden74 sometimes you don’t have to do anything to be ranked. There were several teams this year ranked about Lovejoy that didn’t make it pass the 3rd round of playoff. I really disregard most poll anyway because they are bias . Most of these pollster live in Gwinnett county somewhere I’m sure. Look at Norcross they where ranked # 1 in the state but got butt drugged 55-0 first game. Look at North Gwinnett they where the team sent down from the Gods until one player goes down. Then Collins Hill jump on them like spider monkeys.
