I was very surprised by the outcome of the Athens Academy vs. George Walton game. I hope Williams from GWA is ok.

Pisgah/Paran was the game of the night. Two very good, very evenly matched teams.

Johnson County absolutely pounded ECI 65 to 34. After a 3 play 60+ yard drive on ECI’s opening possession, it was all JOCO. The mercy rule (running clock) took effect in the 4th qtr with JOCO up 59 to 28. ECI looked slow compared to JOCO.

I called this one as ECI’s to win but man was I wrong!

If JOCO plays the rest of the season like they did last night in Twin City, I see them going deep in the playoffs.

FIRST BITE OF CROW …. Johnson Co fans, I’m all yours! I bashed you saying you didn’t belong in the Top 10, I doubted that you hadn’t played anyone, I threw your opponets win / loss record at you, I didn’t think you could even hang with ECI predicting they would win by 20 or more …. well …. CONGRATS! You showed me, ECI, and you have validated that you are a true TOP 5 team in the state. Whatever you give me …. I deserve. I have no ties to ECI nor do I have any ill will towards JoCo ….. you just went out and laid the “wood” to ECI & MYSELF!

Region 5 ….. the Pace Academy / Holy Innocents game sounded like a “classic”! The last two weeks Pace Academy is less than one minute from two wins and probably being a Top 10 team in the state. Losing 17-14 with 36 seconds to Landmark last week, and now last night 17-14 to Holy Innocents with 7 seconds. Throw the records out the window, Region 5 has the #1 team in the state, and four other soild teams that should make the playoffs and all with a chance to make a “run” in the playoffs ….. ELCA, Landmark, Holy Innocents, Our Lady of Mercy, and Pace Academy.

@ Swamp – there should be some great games on the private side once the playoffs begin. You are correct that Region 5 has some really good teams. ELCA is the cream of the crop in Single A and they should be seeded first and Landmark shouldn’t be far behind them. If HI, OLM, and Pace can get into the playoffs they are going to shock some higher seeded teams.

@ bucket …. there is a very likely possibility that OLM, Pace, and Holy Innocents all finish 5-5 …. if they do, I think all will get in. Big games next week in Region 5 …. ELCA / Pace, Landmark / Holy Innocents, OLM / Darlington …………… Region 8 is tough & deep …. I was shocked at the Athens Academy / George Walton score last night.

@ bucket … another team ( Private side ) that’s flying under the radar is First Presbyterian Day! Don’t look now but they are 5-3 (4-1 in Region 7), should be 6-3 / 5-1 after next week ( Warren Co ) ….. setting up a winner take all Region Championship with Aquinas the final week of regular season.

STATEMENT WINS ( PUBLIC ) ….. Congratulations to Clinch Co ( win over Charton Co ) and Johnson Co ( win over ECI ) on their big wins. I think both will give them Region Championships and show that they are the two teams to beat on the Public side.

I was at the Pace/HI game last night. The Pace home crowd was pathetic. I’ve never been to a game that the home fans seemed so apathetic to what was happening on the field.Fan noise makes a difference in how teams play(just ask Landmark how loud their fans are). Pace fans …you should be ashamed. Pace could have won that game with some encouragement last night. Your team wont go far till you put some support behind them. Pitiful.

I agree davidwins, it seems as though only a few fans were cheering them on. I guess the fans are use to the outcome of last season. We need to be behind these boys no matter what. However that facemask call at the end of the game killed the drive. smh
