Notebook: Barron, Copeland get 100th victories

Tim Barron of Heard County got his 100th coaching victory last week in a 54-14 win over Manchester. Barron is 90-40 at Heard. He got his first 10 victories at Alexander. … Dexter Copeland of Baldwin got win No. 100 on Oct. 4 against Rutland. Copeland is 100-45 with stints at Baldwin and Twiggs County.

Jordan gets offensive

In 2011, the season before James Brown became head coach, Jordan scored 47 points all season in an 0-10 finish, so the 47-33 victory over Chattahoochee County last week was a symbolic closure to that memory. QB Will Harris was 17-of-24 passing for 273 yards and four touchdowns. WR Javante Harris had eight catches for 150 yards and intercepted two passes. Both made GHSF Daily’s state leaderboard today.

Six TD passes for Union County QB

Union County QB Joseph Mancuso threw six touchdown passes last week in a 40-24 victory over Riverside Military last week. He was 25-of-29 passing for 338 yards. His 1,622 yards passing lead Class AA. WR Jacob Rogers had 10 catches for 153 yards and two of the touchdowns.

Greater Atlanta Christian’s Micah Abernathy, whose 921 yards rushing is second in Gwinnett County, is the brother of Ralph David Abernathy IV, the former all-state running back at Westminster now at Cincinnati. They are grandsons of the former civil rights leader Ralph David Abernathy. … Creekside QB Felix Harper and Cartersville QB Brooks Barden each have thrown 21 touchdown passes and only two interceptions.
