Lassiter 31, Milton 3

By Ricky Dimon

Score Atlanta

Will Anderson completed 26 of 35 passes for 402 yards and four touchdowns to lead Lassiter past Milton. Quincy Perdue had three receptions for 201 yards and three scores for Lassiter, while Oris Lawhorn caught Anderson’s other touchdown pass.

The host Trojans led 14-3 after one quarter before both offenses stalled. They tacked on a field goal with the halftime buzzer sounding for a 17-3 advantage at intermission, but the score remained 17-3 after a scoreless third period. Milton had one long drive in the third only to have it end when Austin Cheatum recovered a fumble that was forced by John Branks. The Eagles watched their slim comeback hopes evaporate after Lassiter finally added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Lassiter won the overall turnover battle by forcing two and committing none of their own. Kory Gildea also snagged an interception for the Trojans and Corey John recorded a game-high nine tackles to along with two sacks. Their stout defensive effort allowed Milton to gain just 231 total yards, compared to 467 for the Trojans.

“It was just a solid game all around,” said Lassiter head coach Jep Irwin. “Our defense played great. Milton has a high-powered offense and we kept them out of the endzone, so I’m really proud of that. Obviously, we had a few long pass plays on the offensive end with Will throwing for more than 400 yards.”

Lassiter (4-3, 3-1 in Region 5-AAAAAA) has now won back-to-back games for the first time this season and is also above .500 overall for the first time in 2013. The Trojans were coming off a far more competitive 28-21 contest last week against Walton.

Wow, heck of an effort all around for the Trojans tonight! Was interested to see some of the stats, and Anderson and Perdue put up some numbers.

Looks like, with no letdowns the next 2 weeks, region title will be in game 10 at Lassiter vs Etowah.

And sportsnut, here I thought this season would be more of a transition for my Trojans. But a region title is within reach…as long as they stay grounded and continue to improve like they have since game 1.

Great game Trojans. Drove 400 miles round-trip to see this game. Results justified the trip.
