The Alpharetta Raiders continued their roll through Region 6-AAAAAA, wearing down host Chattahoochee in a 34-17 victory Friday.
Alpharetta quarterback Austin King threw two touchdowns to Andre Harton and also ran for a score, leading the Raiders to their 10th consecutive region win. King connected on his first eight attempts and finished 15 of 20 for 271 yards and the two touchdowns, before sitting out the bulk of the second half.
Backup Vito Priore spelled King and sealed the win with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Clements late in the fourth quarter. The Raiders’ run-first quarterback Elijah Burnette also saw time in the fourth quarter and had several nice carries to set up Priore’s touchdown pass.
“It’s a unique situation, having three quarterbacks who can all play,” said Alpharetta coach Jason Dukes. “All three of those guys have things to work on during the week, but all three also know that I trust them.”
With three weeks left, the Raiders (5-2, 4-0 Region 6-AAAAAA) are the only unbeaten team in Region 6 play.
Chattahoochee (3-3, 1-3 Region 6-AAAAAA) hung tough in the first half, with Chase Nelson helping the Cougars control the ball on the ground. Michael Fusco recovered a muffed punt inside the Alpharetta 10 to set up a short touchdown run by Nelson, tying the score at 7-7 early in the first quarter.
Chattahoochee quarterback Taz Wilson threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Collin Lisa in the second quarter, and Adam Abdellaoui kicked a 47-yard field for the Cougars in the first half.
Thomas Waller’s 42-yard field goal with five second lefts before halftime gave Alpharetta a 20-17 lead at the break.
The Raiders’ defense shut out Chattahoochee in the second half.
King capped the Raiders’ first drive with a 3-yard touchdown to Harton. King also scored on a 1-yard sneak, capping a drive that was kept alive by Harton’s 31-yard reception on 4th-and-13. King completed 12 of 16 passes for 240 yards in the first half.
The Cougars have lost three of four and head to West Forsyth next week in need of a win to have any shot at staying in the playoff hunt.
