Johnson County went 14-1 and won the Class A championship. Which team beat Johnson County 3-0 in the regular season? (Answer Friday)

Answer to Wednesday’s question: McDonough Christian is now Eagle’s Landing Christian. Boys Catholic merged with Mount St. Joseph’s Academy in 1957 to form Aquinas. Georgia Military Academy became Woodward Academy in 1966.

Who would have thought that East Coweta’s schedule would be tougher at this point than North Gwinnett’s? Aren’t they region 3?

Why is there only one region 1 team listed? Shouldn’t there be more than one if they are the toughest region? Does this mean they are not as tough as everyone thinks? One would think that the toughest region would have the toughest schedule, right? They do play each other.

I thought Colquitt Co. had the Toughest Schedule with non Region Games being included??

@5-Time– A couple of things. First of all the Maxwell Ratings does not include out of state games. With Colquitt playing Hoover but not counting in this list, it could put them at the top if it was counted. Secondly, it is the games played this season. Pre-season Colquitt was ranked the toughest but that was going off of last seasons strength of the teams they are playing. What once thought to be strong teams may not rank as high once they start playing.

@ 5 Time == You don’t get it. How long will it take? Yet another way showing that your region is not what you think it is.

Let me explain how I arrived at my conclusion. If you have the toughest region, you have tough teams.
If you have tough teams, you play tough games. By reasons that are very apparent, playing each other, you have a tough schedule. If by some comparison only one team from your region is on this list, the region toughness must not be as strong as you think. It is the out of region games that have Colquitt on this list, not the region. That brings you back to the beginning, Region one is not that tough.

And one of you will have to play host to East Coweta, the best 3-3 team in the state.

Sportsnut………………………It doesn’t matter what you say or think because it has already been documented numerous of times that Region 1-AAAAAA is the Toughest Region!! That’s a FACT!! If you did a little research, you would know that by now Sportsnut…

Though history helps evaluate a team and region, you have to consider a region’s strength on a yearly basis. What happened last year or a decade ago does not bear directly on strength of schedule this year. Based on the data above, it appears the Gwinnett schools should be favored to do well in AAAAAA.

I had high hopes for the Wildcats. Now after two tough losses we’re gonna have to win out with the exception of Colquitt just to be 4th seed. Any other cat fans bummed about this?

Grayson had hands down the toughest schedule with playing number 1 and 2 teams in the state the first 2 weeks of the season with N. Gwinnett and Colquitt then then had to play Parkview another tough opponent. Especially being basically a brand new team – however they did really well the past 3 weeks they are that dark horse in the playoffs that no one should want to play in the first few rounds.

@ 5-Time == Well….. This document say’s otherwise. Flyer said the same thing but in different words. By the way, did you do any research or do you just go by others statements? I did not make the list above. It was compiled by the same people who said region 1 was the toughest.

Sportsnut – did you see the words “toughest schedule to date” in the article? The Region 1 teams still have 3 more region games left. Camden still has Colquitt and Lowndes, Colquitt still has Camden and Coffee and Valdosta. Valdosta still has Colquitt and Tift and Coffee. These games aren’t included YET.

And the Norcross game against #1 team in country (BTW- Fla) is not counted in their schedule strength either just like the Colquitt loss to Hoover. Add in the North Gwinnett game, and Mill Creek and Collins Hill to the BTW game, and Norcross schedule would likely be Top 10 hardest.

@ 5 TIME.. it said toughest teams played 2 this date……. packers still have 2 play coffee, valdosta, camden. we play a good brunswick team fri. night…so at the end of the season most definitely pack will played the toughest schedule…… @sportsnut r1 at one point n time was the toughest,,,but in this day regions are more athletic, players going both ways, track team, soccer players, and basketball players now contribute 2 hs football. teams will recruit any kind of player just to strengthen their team…….. on the other hand the packers schedule tough teams through the regular season,to get the players ready 4 stiff competition. when you beat top teams in the regular season,it builds ur ego to where you feel you can beat anybody in the playoffs.

AS I said, I did not compile this list. To this date in time for this football season, these are the teams that have played the most difficult schedule.

If you can’t understand my reasoning and explanation, remedial courses are in order. I was not talking toughest region, I was making note of the toughest region only having 1 team in the category of toughest schedule. That is not rocket science.

@ MADDBALL == At one point, you say. That is my point. The article simply says most difficult schedule. I would assume that means tough, for the purpose of this conversation. No additional info is needed to understand what the article is projecting as it’s main subject or the intent for the readers to receive in it’s message.

I guess it will take an earthquake to shake off the bottom portion of Georgia for some to stop the region 1 hoopla. They were once all that but that is the past. One day maybe, just maybe, region 1 will be itself again. Right now, it is not.

@ 5-Time == no I did not see the words toughest schedule. It was most difficult. Maybe the reason you did not understand my post is the same reason you misquote the article. Stand back and take off your region 1 cape and give things an objective look sometimes. If you didn’t know, this is what’s called jaded. You are so consumed with all things region 1 that other facts, yes facts, become irrelevant. I know you like your team and your region but there truth’s are that you may not agree with.

This article represents one.

Sportsnut, I think that you have a crush on region 1. You have an obsession with that region. Playoff position comes out, you bring up region 1, toughest schedule, you bring up region 1. It seems that no matter what topic on this board comes up, region 1 is mentioned by you. In fact you spend more time on region 1 than you do on region 2. Is it because Lovejoy is the only competitive team in Region 2? Is it because there is no championship pedigree in Region 2. You know that Lovejoy is in the same.situation as Camden was before they were moved into Region 1. With the exception that Lovejoy has no state titles for one of the weakest regions in the state. The facts bear it out. Do I think region is tough? If you are talking about any team beating a team on any given night yes. Do region 1 play tough teams out of region? Sure they do. Lovejoy has lost to a region 1 team at least once in the past 2 years. While Newton has at least 1 win. Does that make Newton the toughest in region 2? No. The question I guess is can any team in Region 2 beat Lovejoy on any given night? The answer has been no sonce 2010. Can any team in region 1 beat the top team? The answer is yes. Are the games more competitive and physical in region 1? Yes. The surprise in region 1 I guess would be Coffee with no wins, but had the expectation of moving forward. Brunswick and Tift are much improved. Region 7 is top heavy with a tough top 5, but the bottom 4 are weak. Region 2 top does not even compare with 1 and 7. But, the playoffs are a different story. However if I were to pick the 6AM champ will come out of 1 or 7, the facts bear this out. Norcross(7) Grayson(8) Camden(1) x3Lowndes(1) x3. PTR(7) Roswell(5) Brookwood(8) Parkview(8)x3. So with the exception of the PTR/Roswell tie championship, the champion has always come out of regions 1,7 or 8. Why? More competitive during the year, and a pedigree to win championships.

@ RobFromNorcross == There are 9 teams from region 7 with winning records. I hope we don’t have to play them! Any of them. What are the chances we could beat one of those powerhouses in region 7?

I’ll bet you our last place team would beat yours. Hold on, …wait a minute.. You have 3 last place teams? That will be tough road to hoe.

So, Sportsnut, you are now basing the power of Region 2 on your expectation that your Region 2’s last place team would beat the last place team of Region 7? Wow… that is quite a dream world you are living in.

Your #2 team Newton from Region 2 is #42 in the Classification Rankings from Maxwell with a rating of 58.67.

This would not put your #2 team in the playoff Top 4 in any other region at the present time.

The rankings of the current #4 teams (last playoff team in region) for every other region (vs your #2’s rating of 58.67):

Region 1: 74.83 Lowndes
Region 3: 63.34 Marietta
Region 4: 72.47 Newnan
Region 5: 68.81 Lassiter
Region 6: 61.25 North Forsyth
Region 7: 81.95 Collins Hill
Region 8: 69.65 Brookwood

@ Really == I do have a “haters Crush” on region 1. I am constantly on them because of their superiority complex. It is not because Lovejoy is the only competitive team in region 2. It is because I know region 1 fans are so full of themselves that they think no one can play with them.

Yes we lost to Colquitt each of the past 2 seasons but that has nothing to do with this subject. You ask if any team in region 2 can beat Lovejoy on any given night and the answer is yes. We are no different than anyone else. We can be beat. You ask can any team in region 1 beat the top team and your answer is yes. Funny, I have not seen anyone beat Colquitt this season from region 1. They are being given the region by the other schools and the season is not over. The attitude exhibited by you, the fans would suggest that the answer to your question is no instead of yes. Newton did win a game vs region 1 and that is more proof that they are not what you think. What was it, # 6 or 7 in the state for Lowndes when that happened?

If you want to see it how I see it, Lovejoy lost to Colquitt, without several starters and had them on the 3 yard line with 1:06 to play. Newton beat Lowndes at Lowndes when they were state ranked. Our neighbors, Mundy’s Mill came down and gave Coffee all they wanted and almost pulled it off.

November is coming and all this talk will be silenced by the sound of the final horn. You don’t have to worry about region 2. You had better get your guy’s ready for region 3. They are your adversaries, not us.

@ MADDBALL == We were not at full strength at Colquitt. One of our key players, Demarquis Gates is still out. We also did not have our DE Randy Anyanwu. We started a sophomore for just his 2nd start ever at Qb. He has grown since then. Gates will be back just in time for the playoffs and the D will be transformed into what it can be.

You know what it was like then, right? Well, Randy is back and Demarquis is on the way. So don’t say you beat us with our best. You beat us.
