Friday rewind: 7 TDs in 15 plays and other notables

Amazing: No. 4 Monroe Area ran only 15 plays in the first half against Stephens County on Friday. The Purple Hurricanes scored touchdowns on seven of those plays en route to a 47-0 win. Quarterback Stanton Truitt and running back Kwan Brooks each ran for two touchdowns for Monroe Area, which is 7-0 for the second straight season.

Collision course: No. 1 Sandy Creek and No. 2 Carrollton continued their dominating starts and stayed on course for their Nov. 1 showdown. Eric Swinney scored three touchdowns, and the Sandy Creek defense posted its second straight shutout in a 49-0 win over Shaw on Thursday. The Patriots have won 38 consecutive region games.

Jarvis Terrell rushed for four touchdowns to lead Carrollton to a 49-12 win over Troup County on Thursday. The Trojans have outscored opponents 292-47.

Chubb Watch: Nick Chubb rushed for 355 yards and five touchdowns in undefeated Cedartown’s 42-34 win over Pickens. Chubb now has 1,853 yards and 29 touchdowns. Cedartown is 7-0 for the first time since 2000, when the Bulldogs reached the state championship game. Chubb is committed to Georgia.

Big win: No. 5 Statesboro beat previously unbeaten Liberty County 24-7 to move atop Region 3-AAAA Division A. Anthony Curtis’ short touchdown run late in the fourth quarter sealed the win for the Blue Devils, who improved to 7-0.

Surging: Grady won its fifth in a row, knocking off previously unbeaten Washington (Atlanta) to improve to 5-1 and 2-0 in Region 6-AAAA Division B. Isiah Jenkins rushed for three touchdowns and more than 200 yards in the Grey Knights’ 28-7 win over Washington on Friday.

Clutch: Dalton kicker Kiko Rodriguez made a 25-yard field goal with three seconds left, lifting Dalton to a dramatic 31-28 win over previously undefeated Northwest Whitfield. It was the Catmounts’ seventh straight win over Northwest Whitfield.

You do realize that Grady’s wins have come against teams that are a combined 10-21, with WA having half those wins against equally weak competition. Window dressing wins.

@Surging? Maybe “surging” is a little strong, but they can only beat the teams that are on their schedule. And they’ve done that, after losing their opener. See your point, though. –DP

Man, Nick Chubb is a beast! Somebody is going to have to deal with him! If they (Cedartown) can keep it close, I wouldn’twnat it to be my team that had to stop him!

Maybe its just me but I would welcome a game against Cedartown rather than the Monroe or Griffin Carrollton will face in the second or third round playoffs. What do you think?

@Surging? Well they are technically surging because they beat weak teams which questioned their actually skill and beating an unbeaten Washington team shows that they may be able to actually play, although Washington’s schedule is just as weak. It’s the best of the worse I guess LOL

I saw the Cedartown game and Chubb went untouched on several carries. He is an elite back, but that region is soft as warm butter. Which is why he can play on both offense and defense since he isn’t being physically punished when carrying the ball

I don’t belive in avoiding other good teams if you’re going to win state then to me it dosen;t matter who you have to play or what seed you are once the playoffs starts its be ready or go home. just a fan I notice you put a lot of stock in Monroe area even Monroe area fans talk don’t about them as much as you do. moroe might be good but getting blowed out by creek really hurts how people looks at them. But anything can happen in the playoffs

94-man do you stay up late! What I have said is that Monroe Area MAY be a contender but that their weak schedule makes it impossible to tell at this point. We can be sure of one thing- they have a skilled offense. I watch them because region5 #2 team plays Monroe in the second round of playoffs-that looks to be SC or Carollton. I think either team would be favored over them but like you said-abything can happen in the playoffs.

I still see Griffin making the difference here. Easy first 2 rounds, starters are all rested, they come loaded with talent.

STWP-agree but second round against R3#3 could offer some competetion-it looks to be the deepest region. It is shaping up to be Griffin against either SC or Carrollton in the quarterfinals. This should be one of the top games of the playoffs with the winner being favored against the other quarterfinal winner on that side of the bracket.

@ just a fan I get off work late during the week lol! Like I said once before it’s a four team race carrollton, griffin statesbroro and sandy creek anybody else outside of those four team winning state would clearly be an upset that’s what I think and i’m sticking to my guns so no I don’t think Monroe area is a contender but that why they play the games

I agree about griffin being loaded I watch them on fnhs network and yes they are loaded qb is fast and he has an arm plus they have good recivers that would be a good match up for one of the best secondary’s in the state ( 11 int’s on the year so far) that would be a great match up but first things first sandy creek.

T94-do you think Griffin has been tested during the regular season? Stockbridge was only quality opponent thus far and they havent dominated any competetive opponent. I hope you arent working Nov 1st. You are probably correct on the top 4,I think the polls have it right.

@T94, these are some pretty bold statements your posting. We haven’t won any championships in 15 years, we’ve had some very good teams but no rings. Nothing wrong with being confident though. I guess. You sure are writting a lot of checks that are going to need to be cashed and 11-1-13 is not pay day.
