Tucker, Stephenson to meet in showdown for No. 1

- The Region 6-AAAAA championship, an additional round of home-field advantage in the playoffs and the No. 1 ranking in Class AAAAA are likely to be at stake when DeKalb County rivals Stephenson and Tucker meet on Friday at Hallford Stadium. One player to watch will be Stephenson’s leading rusher, Dallas Rivers, a transfer from Tucker who rushed for 1,100 yards for the Tigers last season.

- Whitewater coach Amos McCreary picked up the 150th victory of his career last week when his team beat Northgate 17-6, and this week the Wildcats will try to extend their winning streak to six games when they face McIntosh, which is 5-0 for the first time in school history. McCreary is 76-28 since starting the Whitewater program in 2004 after going 74-38 in 10 seasons at Creekside.

- The first-place team in Region 5-AAAAA has lost each of the past two weeks, and North Paulding will try to stop that streak when it faces Rome on Friday. North Paulding is one of four teams with one loss in the region, but the Wolfpack controls its destiny and will win the region championship if it wins its final four games against Rome, Paulding County, Allatoona and Villa Rica.

- Evans plays at Jones County and Houston County plays at Lakeside-Evans as those four teams work to sort out which two will join Northside and Warner Robins as playoff teams from Region 2-AAAAA. Richmond Hill and Effingham County will meet to determine which will be the biggest challenger to Ware County in 3-AAAAA.

All DeKalb Stadiums are shared by all teams. Previously the larger class schools used the largest stadiums, but now are all in the same class. All marquee games will be played at Hallford, and the home team will rotate. Last year SHS was home, now it Tucker’s turn.

The worst thing about this game is that there is a 5:15 game Lithonia vs Marist and those fans are not leaving the stadium. So if you really want to see this game, it is your best bet to bring a tent 2nite and wait for the gates to open. DeKalb County this makes no sense build some more stadiums.

@Makes No Sense……….DITTO!!!! For the life of me, I dont understand Dekalb County’s “backwardsness” (I know that’s not a word, but there is no word to describe dekalb’s 1940s mentality). The county with some of the best athletes and the absolute worse conditions for stadiums. …..we have some of the highest millage rates, taxes are on par with the neighboring counties and we have our share of corporations especially when you compare us to the Cobbs, Carrolls and Fayette counties of the world to name a few; and still we dont have decent facilities.

Poor money management by our former officials, or just a backwards mentality? ……and I dont want to hear this stuff about being land-locked; that isnt the case at every school. There is just no foresight or desire to do so. What these “managerial clowns” dont realize is that when you allow these schools to have a say via stadiums in receipts of some of their own generated revenue, those $$ can be distributed/budgeted to supplement the county’s spend for educational purposes as well. Start with your major income generators like Tucker, Stephenson, MLK, etc. and as time progresses, take care of all of the remaining schools until the process is complete. A small percentage of the gates can be allocated to the county until all schools have a workable stadium. I know this works and I know it will aid in supplementing our children’s education as well. money doesnt buy happiness or success, but it serves as a wonderful vehicle that could be used to get those qualities. Imagine if each Principle was allowed to control (and measureables put in place to hold him/her accountable) some of the monies for his/her school so that funds could be allocated to those areas in teaching where they are most needed? That would help the students, the communities, schools and the county.

I hope the AJC one day does a major storyline around Dekalb versus the other counties and the quality of their stadiums, schools, etc. These elected officials need an awakening and for the life of me they continue to be voted in……………..again, its just not about the sport facilities; I’m looking at the greater picture which is to also improve the educational playing field of our kids too.

To my friends 5AReg6Fan, TcukerDAD, Tiger4Life and the rest of the Tucker faithful, like I have been saying after the final ticks off the clock, there will be nothing to hold your head down about because, you would have lost to the”BEST” the team with the big “S” on their chest, that are separated from all of the rest! The AAAAA 2013 state champion’s, this game will be played as a game of games; it will be the biggest game probably ever played in Dekalb County.

I can agree that it will be a slug fist until the end, but the Jaguars will wear Tucker down and win. If you ride by memorial drive and see a lighted tent tonight in the parking lot of Hallford stadium, that will be your good ole friend “JAB” camping out and getting up early, making a trip down Lawrenceville hwy. to make sure Tucker don’t pull one of those (Banneker HS) on the JAGS, and try to have the drive to take them to Lakewood stadium Lol., Your beat down has already been order.

We will be opening up the tailgate party with fresh live Tucker Tiger meat starting 1st qtr. through 4th qtr. “BE THERE”:)

I was just watching last years game, Stephenson escaped with one. Tucker had to many self inflicted penalties in the 1st half. Without those fouls Tucker is up at the least 10-7 going into halftime.

It was very clear we had the better coached team, and now with Lamar being in his 2nd season I don’t see us losing this one.

Those are not excuses, just my assessment of the first half. We got a running into the punter 15 yard penalty which lead to the Jags first touchdown. We got a holding penalty when we had made it inside 35 which we ended up punting shortly afterwards.
And then we all know the phantom clipping penalty after a 55 yard run on our first drive, which was followed an ever worst horse collar call on Stephenson.

Has lead the entire state of Georgia in getting their Football players into college and D1 schools. This is what makes them tough, what’s your school history looks like???

It wont take them years to win their 1st state championship, because after they beat Tucker on tomorrow, they will take one game at a time until they get to the Georgia Dome to win their 1st state championship! In case some of you guys doesn’t know it, winning a championship doesn’t make you an underachiever, their are many pro athletes that have retired never won a championship, their are many college athletes who win the Heisman trophy, but never won the National championship, there are many Super 11 athletes from the state of Georgia, who are top because of their performance, not because their school has won a state championship!

Their can only be “!” champion in any sports but that doesn’t take anything away from the other top teams. Again, Stephenson has built a great program, and “YES” maybe the greatest Football program in the state of Georgia. I guarantee if you be at the game today, you will see that there will be scouts from all kinds of D1 down to every level of college Football, not because of Tucker but because Tucker is playing Stephenson.

LET ME REPOST WHAT I WROTE EARLIER MAYBE THIS TIME IT WILL CONNECT TO YOU GUYS, AND IF YOU SEE ANY EXCUSES IN THIS I’LL GET OFF THESE BLOGS: (NOTE: I’M NOT SCREAMING, JUST WANT THIS TO STAND OUT).
the SEC is a tough division and Stephenson is a 17 year old school, which has played 2 years of non region play and has won it’s region 8 times, and came in 2nd place the other times, they never had a loosing season. Has lead the entire state of Georgia in getting their Football players into college and D1 schools. This is what makes them tough, what’s your school history looks like???

Stephenson has accomplish much success in their short live time than most any high school in the state or even nation….

Note: There is another legendary coach and program in Dekalb County, he retired last year, that is, Coach Buck Godfrey of SWD, and I hope after this year the tradition continues. Surely Kell might have won 1 state championship, and I remember that and commend them for it! But to be honest, like WolfPack Nation said, they play such a weak schedule, Stephenson has always played top quality teams. before last year, they lost to Valdosta, Lowdnes, Camden County, heart breaker loss which included a last second field goal to Coffee, East Coweta & Lowdnes in the playoffs. They have always played solid competition each year and had to beat teams in their then region, such as MLK, Newnan, E. Coweta, Douglass etc. Like I said their state championship will come, and if everything goes right, it will be this year!

I never make excuses when I make my posts, if you guys still don’t believe me ask any D1 school scouts and ask them what are there top schools that they love to recruit, and watch them tell you Stephenson is one that top their list. Lastly, I agree with with on Buford, great program and won several state championship but actually, the talent level is a lot better in AAA. I always say that region 6AAAAA is the best in the state, that is just for hype, but in reality it’s region 1AAAAAA and Stephenson has been playing those guys which are bigger schools, they haven’t been able to win against them because they were playing out of their league, doesn’t it seems ironic that their 1st year in AAAAA, they beat Tucker, and win 2 games in the AAAAA, hum ah, enough said.. Back to regular trash talking for this Tucker grilling today at Hallford stadium in progress…

What I consider a great program is not just winning state championships, but coaches& communities that turn out good productive citizens, mentors and send almost 100% of their athletes to college. I will name just a few other top programs in Georgia who has accomplish this year in and year out. Valdosta (to me is the top program in Georgia by far), Camden County, Buford, Lowndes, MLK, Mays, Washington*, Grady* & Carver* of Atlanta. This is just a (FEW) teams from a wide list, the reason why I included * by the APS schools is because, to be a coach for these teams you have took on a huge responsibility, this can be said for almost every programs but most of these coaches has built powehouse programs which are surrounded around poverty, drugs, single parent homes and many other issues. There was a program started in Atlanta city called the Hank Aaron Rookie League in which I was a volunteer coach, I was a very young man, in my early 20’s, I found out then that the best player ever in basketball was not Michael Jordan, the best QB in my opinion was not Joe Montana, but it was that kid that didn’t finish High School, who live in some suburban area. When you can take a man who is willing to take on the responsibility to father, mentor, and coach these young men and help them to develop into productive citizens and bonus’ get them to play college ball, you would have achieved greatness. Many of you small minded bloggers probably wouldn’t wouldn’t agree, but not everyone is born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

There are programs in Counties such as Gwinnett, Cobb, etc. which has parents & communities whom can afford top notch programs, camps, and attrack top quality coaches even from other states etc. but when you can do it from scratch, leave a life long impact on a kids life, help them play on the next level, and build a successful program, IT’S CALLED SAVING LIVES****

A shout out from JAB goes to every coach, school & community who has achieved such success, and to be honest guys, I know this is only trash talking, at least from me it is! Playing sports in only an extra curriculum activity anyway. So again, back to Stephenson Kudos goes out to Coach Gartrell & staff, for saving parents thousands by help sending their child to college especially D1 level…

Somewhere asked you to stop mentioning Stephenson’s existence and quit the Tucker-Hate. It doesnt matter how long it took them to win State (TWICE), they did it…….and for those who continue to talk about “the higher the classification, the stronger and better the team”, that’sa balooney too. Buford proved that by thrashing Gainsville as if it was a cupcake earlier this year. Heck I recall when Parkview would scrimmage Tucker until they got tired of seeing their boys take “man-inflicted-hits” paly after play. GA has awaesome football at all levels and never minimize any state champion at any level. It took hard work for each one.

JAB JAB JAB- I also applaud all the coaches, schools and parents who help take their communities to the next level in helping kids get scholarships. But come on , everybody in the south knows that Stephenson being in existence for 17 yrs has nothing to do with not having at least one championship under their belt and stop fooling yourself u know too. Higher classifications doesn’t make a difference all the time, when Southwest finally won a championship under Godfrey they were in 4A and was suppose to be in 3A. Even Marist won a couple championships play up. But hey it’s a another yr and we shall see what happens in the playoffs.

@ JAB…

Now you see how I feel at times…You are getting hit from all directions…LOL!

GOOD LUCK tonight…I would have liked to seen this game wish it had been last week on EAST off week. Sounds like ya’ll will have a BIG crowd and parking issues as usual. I tried to address the stadium issue in several previous post but some folks took it wrong. I grew up in DeKalb back in the day (high school years from 69 to 73) and can tell you this problem IS NOT NEW. DeKalb has ALWAYS been a greedy county when it comes to $$$$ and anytime anyone in power sees $$$$ available or to be made they find a way to direct them AWAY from where its needed and DIRECTLY into the county coffers. That’s how it was then and that’s still how it is NOTHING has changed! I don’t want to get sidetracked on this blog with political issues BUT I still say a HOME stadium for EACH High School both solves the problem AND instills HOME FIELD PRIDE in each school!, you also use LESS bus’s, drivers, fuel, etc as ONLY one school travels not BOTH and before someone comes on here and starts preaching about low income levels and such I would use as an example CLARKE CENTRAL located in downtown Athens…EAST went over and played them a couple of years ago in the playoffs and they are located right in the middle of a PROJECT! One end zone backs up to the street where directly across is the projects and CLARKE CENTRAL has a nice facility. They drew a large home crowd for the game and had numerous sponsor’s. Just one example of MANY!

Jab,
Please stop talking that non sense about yall only been in existence for 17 yrs. Actually 17yrs is a long time and enough time to win a chip if yall were good enough. On one had you brag about how many kids you put in D1 which may I had most of your kids go to either S. Carolina or Kentucky and both those schools havent won squat either, then you give excuses on why yall havent won a State title. You cant have it both ways. The only reason you guys have so many kids that get scholly’s in the 1st place is cause the kids transfer in from other schools hoping to get additional looks from schools..That is actually your programs downfall besides the coaching is that the kids have no loyalty to the program. They are only there for themselves not the team. You and I both know this. Tucker is a far better program and has been for years. Your stone mountain community have nothing on the Tucker community and how they have supported for YEARS. Tucker have plenty of scouts that have been coming through those halls since 94. We have had more kids that made it in the NFL ranks than stephenson ever have check the rosters! We have had kids go to D1 schools all over the country from the Pac 12 to the SEC(ND, Oregon, Stanford, Harvard, UGA) and the list goes on not just two barely breathing SEC schools.
