Predictions: Lovett will continue hot streak in non-region finale

Class AA No. 2 Lovett has been impressive against the toughest non-region schedule in the state, winning four consecutive games against ranked teams from higher classifications and then stepping out of state to beat Fort Payne, Ala. Now the Lions have a chance to continue that hot streak when they host Washington County, the No. 3 team in Class AAA. I suspect that Lovett, which already has beaten the likes of Blessed Trinity, Woodward Academy, Marist and St. Pius, will be able to handle the Golden Hawks as well.

In reality, the Marist win is the only suprise. If you are good in AA, AAA is not much different, AAAA is the measure. Then there is Buford.

If Coffee plays like against Ware and Burke… Camden will go home with a loss!

@Jefferson — don’t forget that Marist is really a 2A size school that plays up. It is not like Lovett beat Sandy Creek or some other much larger school.

The city schools have a huge advantage in attendance zone, facilities, and therefor talent. The only exception appears to be Marietta. How they don’t dominate in football and basketball is mindboggling.

@Really, have you ever heard size doesn’t matter? I am not trying to be funny I am just saying that it is the culture and tradition that matters most. Oh and it is good to have talent and develop some more. You can see that some schools will be up there winning for a while but over the years it is the emphasis that schools put on football. Hiring the right coach is one for starters, keeping the right coach is second. In general hiring the right people to be around the program to build it and keep it running successfully.
I am sure you know that all those private schools have the own league where they play each other from 7th grade to 8th,freshman and JV so its no secret who is going to win on Friday nights on the varsity level. Buford even plays some of them in freshman and JV.
On the flip side it is easy to see who gets some new student/athletes and who loses kids. The key here is all these schools mentioned have good dedicated coaches coaching on the lower levels. This is pretty much the major difference between public and the private schools.
Go to some middle school games in DeKalb and you will swear they are trying to play Madden football with their kids.
@BufWolvesDen its great to have talent but a lot of DeKalb schools have raw talent but coaches don’t know how to use it. Buford you don’t have that lack of knowledgeable coaching problem and all these schools mentioned above don’t have it either.

If I recall right, Marist was in the final 4 last year, and yes they could play AA, but they are not a regular AA program, they have a history, a great program and advantages. (All up and up) Buford is the same.

@BufWolvesDen … b/c if you have a bigger school, the talent pool is much greater

@Hubie Green Marietta doesn’t dominate because they play “Big Boy” Football in AAAAAA, in a region with McEachern, Hillgrove and North Cobb. I am a Hillgrove parent and see that they are actually at a disadvantage. Marietta only dresses about 50-60 kids, while Hillggrove, McEachern, and North Coob dresses over 100! By the way McEachern and Hillgrove both are not only ranked in the top 10 in Georgia, they are both ranked in the top 25 in the Southeast. There is not going to be any domination of these teams. Go Hawks! Waco and Hillgrove!

@ No Lines == You are right. Size does not matter. Lovejoy plays schools with almost 3 times their enrollment and look at what we have done. You could take a couple schools from Gwinnett and have more people than our entire city.
