Class A Blog: What to look for on Friday? Holy Innocents-ELCA, JoCo-Savannah Christian headline the slate of games

Here are four games of note on Friday, along with four more to pay attention to.

Athens Christian (2-2) at No. 6 Prince Avenue Christian (3-1). It’s the Region 8 opener for both teams. Both were involved in blowouts last week. PAC is coming off of a 55-6 win over Glascock County (1-4) while Athens Christian was blasted 56-0 by Class AAA No. 9 North Oconee (2-1).

Holy Innocents (2-2) at No. 1 Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (3-0). After taking a week off, the top-ranked team in Class A will begin Region 5 competition at home in McDonough against the Bears. ELCA rolled to a 68-6 win over Class AA Hapeville Charter back on Sept. 13, while the Bears are trying to reverse a two-game skid, having lost to Class AAAAA Riverwood (35-21) and George Walton Academy (35-14) the past two weeks.

No. 9 Johnson County (4-0) at No. 4 Savannah Christian (2-0-1). In what many believe is the best game of the weekend, the Trojans will visit Savannah for a Region 3 cross over game of undefeated teams. JoCo hopes history does not repeat itself, as the Trojans were undefeated last season when the Raiders went to Wrightsville and won going away, 42-14.

Telfair County (3-1) at Clinch County (1-3). In the Region 2 opener for both teams, Telfair County is looking to rebound from last week’s 35-26 loss to Class AAA Southeast Bulloch, while Clinch County took the week off after falling just short against No. 7 Seminole County (21-14) on Sept. 13. Clinch County hopes to show that it is an improved team over last season, the worst for the Panthers since the mid 1980’s. Telfair County, which barely missed making the post season last year, wants to prove that it belongs in the upper echelon of Class A.

Other games of note:

Charlton County (2-2) at Wilcox County (1-2)

First Presbyterian Day (1-2) at Lincoln County (1-2)

Trion (3-1) at Darlington (3-1)

Whitefield Academy (1-2) at Gordon Lee (3-0)

Thanks for the mention. Chris Hunter Stadium is about to turn it up as barns burn on Jerry Sharp Field.

@ STC – I haven’t posted much this week, but thanks for the Prince love in a couple of articles. The game tonight against ACS should be really interesting. Recently, Prince has had the upper hand in this series, but it is such an intense rivalry game that you never know what will happen. ACS has gone out of class to win a couple of early games and lost last week to a really good AAA North Oconee team. I would suspect that Prince better come prepared to play because the stands will be packed on both sides of the field for the first time all year and there are some distractions with Spirit Week and Homecoming tonight.

Those rivalry games can go either way. It will be interesting to see the outcome, though I feel PAC will win it.
