For the AJC
We’ve got a short list of “big games” this week in Class A. Here are three that should be well worth the price of admission, plus three more to pay attention to as well:
Mount Paran Christian School (2-1) at Trion (3-0). This crossover game in Region 6 is probably the top Class A game of the weekend. Upstart Mt. Paran battled hard but came up just short last week at undefeated (4-0) No. 2 Landmark Christian, 14-7. Now QB Jake Allen, RB Dorian Walker and WR Emoni Williams will try to rebound against a Trion team that is averaging 40 points per game while yielding just nine. The Bulldogs – led by its hard-running backfield of Malik Martin, Devonya Farmer, Bradley Womack and Chandler Latham – manhandled Walker (2-1) last week, 42-7.
No. 8 Seminole County (3-0) at AA Pelham (3-0). Seminole County is off to a fast start and will try to knock off a Class AA team that is just as hot. Seminole County held off a scrappy team from Clinch County (1-3) last week, 21-14, as County RB Robert Speights scored on a 66-yard touchdown run and threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Peters, while QB Alex Fudge scored on a 3-yard run.
No. 10 Pace Academy (3-0) at First Presbyterian Day (0-2). Pace will look to continue its “revenge tour” this week in Macon at FPD. The Knights trounced King’s Ridge Christian last week, 39-6, after losing to the Tigers 48-20 last season. The previous week, Pace smashed Athens Academy, 42-9, a year after being beaten 42-9 by the Spartans. Last season, FPD defeated Pace, 24-20. The Knights are led by Stanford-bound DB/RB Denzel Franklin, senior WR Kameron Uter and junior QB Kevin Johnson.
Three more to watch:
King’s Ridge Christian (2-1) at Darlington (2-1)
Class AAA Southeast Bulloch (1-0-1) at Telfair County (3-0)
Wilkinson County (0-2) at No. 9 Irwin County (2-0-1)
Your turn, Class A Blog heads. Until Saturday …
