Class AAAAAA roundup

By Score Atlanta

Archer 25, Brookwood 20: Quarterback Gabe Tiller paced the Archer offense completing 26 of 40 passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns. Tight end Connor Redmond caught nine passes for 104 yards and a score. Kyle Davis hauled in Tiller’s other touchdown throws. Duane Lee ran for Archer’s other score. Visiting Brookwood rallied late, but its final three drives were ended by Archer interceptions.

Berkmar 29, Shiloh 14: In a battle of two Gwinnett unbeatens, host Berkmar’s defense prevented another record-setting night for Shiloh quarterback Wil Larimore and running back Charles Shavers. Jaquan Morris threw two touchdown passes for Berkmar. Rashad Hall and Kaleb Catching added rushing touchdowns for the victorious Patriots.

Chattahoochee 37, Douglas County 26: The host Cougars used a trio of players and a balanced attack to improve to 2-1. Quarterback Taz Wilson completed 11 of 15 passes for 205 yards and three scores. All three of his touchdown passes went to Colin Lisa, who had six receptions for 105 yards. Running back Chase Nelson added 123 yards on 16 carries and found the end zone once.

Etowah 41, Pope 7: Etowah running back Brandon Engle led the Eagles past visiting Pope with a 6-yard touchdown run and 85 total rushing yards, along with a 90-yard kickoff return to start the game. Ben Rowell also scored twice, catching a 17-yard touchdown pass from John Oliver and returning an interception 16 yards for a score. Oliver was an efficient 9-of-13 passing and rushed for 54 yards.

Harrison 28, Campbell 26: The visiting Spartans used big plays to keep it close, but Harrison quarterback Lorenzo Nunez rushed for two scores and had 175 total yards of offense. Carter Reid and Jonathan Fisher each added a rushing touchdown. Campbell recovered two fumbles inside the 10 and returned a kickoff for a score and scored on an 80-yard touchdown run.

Mill Creek 42, Mountain View 3: Visiting Mill Creek scored 40-plus points for the third consecutive time this season thanks mostly to 28 first-quarter points. Andrew Sciara scored two touchdowns on fumble recoveries. DeVozea Felton, Carter Governale and Johnathan Hawkins each had rushing touchdowns for Mill Creek. The Hawks also scored on a pass from Joseph Hall to Daniel David.

Milton 52, Centennial 10: Treyvon Paulk rushed for 133 yards and a 47-yard touchdown to lead visiting Milton. Micco Brisker scored on a 9-yard touchdown run and a 13-yard pass reception from quarterback Austin McLeod, who also found Zack Spiezio for a 29-yard touchdown pass. The Milton defense converted two Centennial fumbles into touchdowns, including a 43-yard fumble return by linebacker Quarte Sapp.

Newnan 17, Troup 7: Randell Arnold scored on a 29-yard run in the second half to help host Newnan hold off Troup. J.K. Britt got the scoring started for Newnan with a 7-yard run, and Conner Cox added a field goal. Troup scored its lone seven points on a fumble return touchdown.

Peachtree Ridge 55, Duluth 17: Chance Thrasher threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Ellis in the opening quarter to give host Peachtree Ridge an early 7-0 lead. Ellis added a 50-yard first half touchdown run and Joe Smith returned an interception for a touchdown. Thrasher tossed three more touchdown passes in the second half, all to wideout Brandon Johnson.

Rockdale County 40, Drew 21: The host Bulldogs were able to pull out to a 22-0 lead in the first quarter, but Drew’s quarterback Brandon Pearson closed the gap with two long touchdown passes right before the half. Bulldogs’ Keijne Thomas and Zuri Minnifield were too much though as Thomas rushed for a scored and Minnifield added three through the air.

Roswell 41, Johns Creek 24: Roswell running back Kendrick Jackson scored on runs of 21 and 12 yards for the host Hornets, who improved to 2-1. Roswell also got scoring runs from Mechane Slade (25 yards), Sheldon Evans (16 yards) and Shakur Jackson (12 yards). Quarterback Matt Cory found Colin McCauley for a 9-yard touchdown catch.

Walton 28, North Cobb 13: Host Walton kept its opening scoring drive alive with a fake punt that Zach Williams turned into a 46-yard gain. Price Wilson threw a touchdown pass to junior tight end Davis Pidgeon. Walton sophomore Karekin Brooks carried the ball 46 times for 228 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Westlake 26, Banneker 6: After a scoreless opening quarter, Tyrone Pope ran in a 1-yard touchdown to give visiting Westlake the early lead. Westlake’s Demetrius Beverly completed a 57-yard touchdown pass to Quran Hasan and Jordan Thomas added two second half touchdowns for the victorious Lions. Banneker’s lone score came on a Jahmmir Taylor 75-yard fumble return in the fourth quarter.

Even though NG is in control at the moment, there’s still a lot of football left to be played. The season is long and anything can happen. Class 6A is up for grabs! :-)

I want everyone to sleep on lowndes. 87-0 tonight over windsor forest with jv playing entire 2nd half. We threw it more than we ran it tonight and had 5 td passes. W forest is not that good..we beat them 38-0 last year but we are much better than we showed last fri and much better than newton. 14 penalties for 130 yds and 5 fumbles…it would be hard to beat the bad news bears playing like that. We just had the bighead and we got humbled and im glad we did bc now everyone else is going to have to deal with us bc of it. Region is strongest its been in a while this year and it will be a dogfight

yea sportsnut..i was pissed off to say the least after last week. Newton is not better than us today..tmmrw or next week…and if we played again i am sure would would torch them but when you have as many fumbles and penalties as we did you prob would not beat the bad news bears. We just came out dead and part of it was i think we get tired or playing cupcakes…talking about the kids..They have a hard time getting up for a team they know they are much better than. Newton is much improved but we are better team than newton..but we lost. No excuse.

@ BK == Ugly game. We did not look like the same team that played Colquitt. Dropped passes, silly penalties, bad play calling,(ok, that was the same), poor officiating, just an ugly game.

Alpharetta has a tight end that is pretty good. They also have a nice WR. Their Qb throws like a girl but he gets it there. He threw for over 400 yards. Our D seemed lost at times. Lots and lots of work to do.

@ BK == If you are asking me that question, the answer is yes, we should have won. The only thing I can say about that game is that the coach’s lost that one. We had a shot. % yard line, first and goal. Run Kirkland left, off tackle. Nothing. Three passes and it is over. That was after we took the ball at our 25, marched to their 5 on gashing runs by Kirkland and Tilley and then the O/C gets brain freeze.

So we should have won and we did have a shot. You would be correct to say either.

@ 74 == For some reason, the coach’s would not change the coverage. I will dream of #11 and 89 running crossing patterns. They spread us out and hit the TE all night. When we thought we made an adjustment, they went to the wide out. They had no running game. Not even enough to keep the D honest.

That is my issue. The coach’s did not adjust. The Qb does not run. It was kind of like watching Drew Brees. He picked us apart. As I said, we were lucky.

BK – Glad to have your irritating butt back talking to us. But I have a question for you and
Camden74. I realize ya’ll played everyone including the watergirls and the band but once ya’ll hit about 60 points or so why not just start kicking the ball back on 1st down? It’s one thing to make a statement but the total humiliation ya’ll laid on those poor guys will probably traumatize some of them for life. It seems that I remember back in the dark ages when I played, (Early-mid ’60’s) teams would just punt the ball back on first down after every player got in a quarter or so of playing time. Just common courtesy.

Just wondering how ya’ll feel about that?

Do they still have the “mercy” rule ? If so, how does it work? Mac was up 41-0 at the half – and no mercy clock in the 2nd half. Camdem and Lowndes put up embarassing points. Personally, I never really liked it, but thought a running clock was automatic at some point.

Congrats to McEachern for another great win! Pebblebrook hung in there for a quarter, but pretty much imploded in Q2 when they gave up 35. However, way too many penalties. Could be the difference between winning and losing versus some of the better teams. Key injuries on both sides. Hoping for speedy recoveries. All in all, though, another fun evening at Cantrell . . . and Pebblebrook band rocks!

@bk smith14 what do you mean did we have a shot to win,or could we have won? we did win 34-0.. defense played well without pittman,,carrver was a ranked team you know,,,so to hold them to zero points imo is pretty good.so the defense played fine without him,and will make the adjustments until pittman returns in times 4 the playoffs. coffee is looking very impressive on both sides of the ball imo they should be ranked..they’ve played a tough schedule behind us…congrats 2 coffee….another team thats undefeated in r1 is tift co. we know they havent played no stiff competition yet but they’re 3-0 so keep an eye on tift as well…overall r1 had a great night last night

Looks like 6A football is once again highly competitive. I’m watching these kids up north in Forsyth Cty. There is some talent up here as well. This Dillon Alexander (no. 48) at Lambert HS is dominating on defense. Last night he had three sacks, a tackle for loss and I lost count on assists versus an OK Northview Team. He is all over the field, kills it on special teams and I heard he was a beast running the ball though he never saw the offensive side of the field last night. He’s got to be one of the top players in the state! This kids and athelete and he looks big too….program says 6′5″, 210 but he looks bigger then that and plays bigger then that…….fun to watch!!

Let’s talk about the Beach. Yes Camden outplayed them and yes Camden had more talent and depth, but the Beach QB and wide receiver had to come to the sideline on every offensive play to get the next play. The coach did nothing to motivate his players. His kids were jogging routes and making business decisions when the ball came their way. I understand that Camden was up by a substantial margin in the 2nd quarter, but Beach started taking a knee on their last drive. What message does that send to your kids. WE GIVE UP? Why even show up if you are not going to give it your all. CoffeeC100, your guys look good and they are definitely the sleeper in the Region. Can’t wait to see them in person.

Coffee100……The score was 63-0 going into the half. In the second half, everyone played, but you can’t ask young kids not to play their best when they get their chance to play. I don’t believe in running up the score, but I also don’t believe in telling players not to play their best. Camden’s offense was on the field maybe one or two series in the first quarter. You cannot allow your starters not to play in a game the week before a bye and your region schedule starts the first game after you get back.Your starters have to have a certain amount of snaps. Also, the opposing team has an obligation to continue to play hard. You don’t quit after the first quarter, no matter the score! The CATS will be RELEASED! Don’t be on the field of play when they are! :-D

westcobb5: Pebblebrook waved the mercy rule and didn’t want the clock ran. Apparently your team has the option to run it or not. That’s the reason their starting quarterback and about 7 other players are injured right now. I don’t know why it’s optional, it should be mandatory. McEachern blew them out in the second quarter and the referee’s allowed the game to last almost 2 1/2 hours for one half of high school football. Unacceptable, but great win for McEachern. Pebblebrook should have used the mercy rule and taken their quarterback out so they could at least walkout of Cantrell stadium with a starting quarterback.

@bksmith14 said “They have a hard time getting up for a team they know they are much better than.” First comment is that is on the coaches if the team wasn’t up for the game. All of us know that the “on any given night” scenario is all too real and any coach worth their salt does as well. Second comment is that Newton was better on that night and you have no real clue if Lowndes is better or not. I appreciate your support for your team but you really need to be a little more realistic when discussing them. All teams and all players make mistakes and just because you support your team enthusiastically doesn’t mean they walk on water.

57Cat

September 14th, 2013
10:55 pm

I still say that when a team is up 50 points with running clock, the team with the lead should play however aggressively they want giving subs/youngsters valuable reps. But any scores they make should not be counted. That way the kids can play to win, scoring as often as possible, but not further embarrass the losing team. Lowndes would have won 53-0 and the entire second half would have been played under a running clock.

Bk, putting a beat down on WF says absolutely zero about how good your team is. Nor does losing to Newton say anything about how bad you are. I maintain we still know nothing about Lowndes. When you finish with your comments, we still know nothing about Lowndes.
