Volleyball: Titans lose first in-state match

Class AAA No. 1 Blessed Trinity fell to an in-state opponent for the first time this season in a 2-1 loss to South Forsyth, but bounced back with a dominating sweep of North Hall and West Hall on Tuesday. Molly McAlvany has 248 kills on the season for the Titans with a 4.2 kills per set average.

In area play on Tuesday No. 1 Walton swept Cherokee and Roswell, Etowah swept its tri-match with Marietta and Lassiter and South Forsyth continued its hot streak. The War Eagles used three sets to top Lambert, and took straight sets with West Forsyth. Senior Kelly McCravy has tallied 562 assists in the War Eagles’ 58 sets played and junior Taylor Svehla has 192 kills and 30 aces on the season.

Mt. Paran continues defeating upper-classification opponents and beat Hillgrove (25-10, 25-21) and Kennesaw Mountain (25-10, 21-25, 25-13) on Tuesday. In the first set alone, Mt. Paran had nine aces against HIllgrove. Melissa Morris had 11 aces on the day and Greenforest Christian will face the ascending Eagles on Thursday.

Walker was led by Brooke Warner on Tuesday as the junior recorded 24 kills in the Wolverines’ sweep of Gordon Lee and North Cobb Christian.

Heritage-Catoosa went 6-0 over the weekend topping Murray County, Christian Heritage, Ringgold, North Murray, Northwest Whitfield and Ridgeland and continued its success Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Dalton.
