Softball: Week 5 rankings

By Score Atlanta

Collins Hill takes over the top spot in Class AAAAAA thanks to a win over AAA-power Buford. The Eagles replace Kennesaw Mountain, which lost to Lassiter. Brookwood slides out of the poll as the Broncos’ record sits below .500 (although most losses are against state powers). Defending-state champion Archer also returns to the rankings.

Sequoyah replaces Pope in the AAAAA rankings on the strength of its shutout victory over the Greyhounds last week. Northgate solidified its position at the top with a victory over Starr’s Mill.

Northwest Whitfield retains the top spot in AAAA but don’t overlook the dominant pitching of undefeated Madison County. Tattnall County enters the AAA rankings thanks to a close win over Pierce County. Class AAA No. 1 Buford lost to AAAAAA power Collins Hill, but retains the top spot.

Heard County defeated Wesleyan last week to reaffirm its status as the state’s top AA team. First Presbyterian Day replaces Whitefield Academy in Class A and appears ready to leapfrog more teams thanks to its undefeated record against AAAA or higher classification teams.
