Predictions: Gainesville will make it two in a row against Buford

Defending state champions take the spotlight in Week 3, highlighted by Buford’s visit to Gainesville on Friday. Buford (AAA) suffered its only loss of the season, excluding forfeits, at the hands of the Red Elephants (AAAAA) last season, and look for the same result this time. The same goes for ECI (A public), which will lose again against Washington County. Norcross (AAAAAA) should bounce back from a lopsided opening loss and beat Parkview. Sandy Creek (AAAA), Jefferson (AA) and ELCA (A private) will roll.

THE WEEKEND PREDICTIONS

I think there will be some eye opening upsets this week. If North Oconee plays their cards right, they might squeak a win out. Same goes for West Forsyth amongst a few others.

I think the Red Elephants are gonna finally get some “get back(even though they won last year)” on Buford this year and activate the running clock… LETS GO BIG RED!!!

EAST PAULDING travels to WOODLAND / BARTOW tonight in a game that you would think would give them an opportunity to get back on track. WOODLAND / BARTOW is 0 / 2 on the year and has lost these two games to VILLA RICA & ALLATOONA by a combined score of 3 / 77!! In the past this would bode well and you could expect more of the same with EAST scoring big and early..

BUT…this is 2013 and EAST is coming off an embarrassing home loss to NORTH PAULDING where they showed NO interest at all in winning a game that had playoff implications. YES…EAST SHOULD win tonight’s game, YES…EAST needs a win to get back on track, YES…the once proud defense SHOULD have enough to keep WOOD / BARTOW off the scoreboard or at least keep the score low, BUT…BUT…BUT…the problem will be the offense and can it operate without it’s SR QB Mitchell Webb, they proved last week they COULD NOT!

EAST Coach Goddard continued having his SR QB RETURN PUNTS (!) and at the 7+ minute mark of last weeks game…GAME 1 of the season…saw him go down with a shoulder injury that will likely sideline him for 3 or 4 games! That was it…EAST was DONE and NORTH PAULDING went on to use this to their advantage (as any good team would). EAST had(s) NO back-up for Mitchell Webb and the offense could not move.

Look for WOOD / BARTOW to use this to their advantage also and if they manage to score 10 or 14 pts that could be enough to UPSET EAST!, as I don’t see the offense being able to score much more than that. MAYBE the defense can get a couple of scores somehow to keep EAST in this game…A loss tonight to an 0 / 2 team would be something EAST NEVER let happen before BUT under this coach…who knows!!!

I hear ya JP, ya never know. Don’t be surprised if gainesville puts a beat down on Buford.

It will prolly be close for 2 quarters or so then big red should pull away. Buford has too many 2 way players and I don’t think they can contain Watson n co for a full 48.

Keys will be mistakes/turnovers and gainesvilles young but talented D playing to potential. I’ve already started tailgating!!

@Cannon
…so are you or are you not pulling for your team? You have a lot of “buts” in your post. You don’t sound as confident as you normally do. Regardless of a crappy coach and other unfortunate circumstances, you should support EP. I’m not used to seeing you hedge your bets like this.

@ Band Wagon…

I always pull for all our Paulding County teams (except when the others play EAST of course…LOL!) and YES I am of course PULLING, HOPING, PRAYING, CROSSING FINGERS, everything for RAIDER wins. It’s just HARD to watch what’s happening to a EAST program that had been built over the years into a winning program with positive attitude. They always took the field FIRED up and EXPECTING to WIN!!!

and NO I am NOT as confident in this years EAST team as long as it’s under the current Coach’s direction…Tonight’s game will tell some about what the rest of the year is going to bring, you only had to look around the Home Side Stands last week you could just feel a difference from the previous years. The NORTH side was a LOT louder ALL NIGHT and the NORTH players were much more fired up…THEY came to “THE BONEYARD” prepared, confident and READY TO WIN!!! and they DID!!!

I haven’t missed a RAIDER game in 6+ years and I will be traveling to the away game tonight…

STILL A RAIDER FAITHFUL!!!

@ Band Wagon, I think “THE CANNON RULES”, is still eating crow when STEPHENSON came into the Bone yard and totally dominated them; Lol., he thought they couldn’t be beat at home… Gainesville has a “GREAT PROGRAM”, but they will not repeat as state champs this year, it will surely be coming from region 6AAAAA this year. We are hungry for a region championship! Talking about the Stephenson Jaguars…:)

GO STEPHENSON JAGUARS AND REGION 6AAAAA, THE SEC OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL & #1 IN THE STATE…..:)

"THE CANNON RULES"

@ JAB…You don’t realize how true PART of what you say is…LAST year’s EAST team still had a lot of the talent and disciplined kids from the PREVIOUS COACH…The new Coach stepped into a VERY good situation with a team that a lot of folks expected to go deep into the playoffs…The UNDEFEATED regular season was a bit of a deception as the first playoff game against Clarke Central showed many flaws and issues EAST needed to overcome. Even though the game was won 31 / 23 by EAST it could have gone either way. The game against STEPHENSON showed how a true playoff team reacts as up by only 7 / 6 at halftime STEPHENSON went in and made adjustments then came out and ROLLED to a 35 / 6 WIN. EAST on the other hand showed that the Coach had NO IDEA how to compete at this level. He either could not or would not make play changes and kept trying the same plays OVER AND OVER. STEPHENSON ran over and around the EAST “O” line and harassed the QB the entire 2nd half!

As far as the EAST home record goes in “THE BONEYARD” go back and look for yourself…as a rule they ARE pretty hard to beat at home! A ROUT like the STEPHENSON game was both embarrassing and unexpected!

I think that McIntosh will beat Alexander tonight, even though the game is being played in Douglasville. These seniors have been playing very well together for years, even when they were freshmen. They put on a show last week, scoring 55 points. Last year, the Chiefs went 5 and 5. The male soccer team won the State and was ranked Number One in the nation. The school won the GHSA Trophy for All Sports in the AAAA Classification. It symbolizes the overall best athletic program among AAAA schools in Georgia, including both male and female sports. I think that McIntosh just may be your sleeper this year.

@Jab dont be so sure about that, Gainesville lost to teams less talented and still won state last year…

as far as Buford, they killed us running the ball. Their line is huge. Im just wondering where was that line LAST YEAR? coughrecruitingcough lol j/k plus they got the #2 Sophomore in the nation I heard at TE.

all-in-all, even though our defense couldn’t do too much, we just couldn’t make plays on offense. Thats the most I’ve EVER seen our receivers drop the ball. Plus the penalties for “illegal shifting” killed us too. But I dont think anyone in AAA is going to stop Buford. Maybe St. Pius or North Hall can do something, but I dont see it.

What happened to the beat down? What happened to making it two in row? The reason for the poor passing and missed receptions may have had more to do with the defense getting to Watson. He might be bruised up for next week and little shy.
Hard work, great coaching and execution is how the game was won! :-)

I was wrong. Way wrong.

If there is a bigger, stronger faster football team than Buford, I’d like to see it.

Haven’t seen gville manhandled like that since Burke co.

Yes gville made mistakes and dropped 10 plus passes but Buford dominated all phases

38-14. It wasn’t even that close.

Itsonlywrite, all of that line has been around a while. A few of them have grown a good bit (were freshmen & sophomores last year). We also had a makeshift line against G’ville last year with a bunch of linemen hurt. The line will be BIGGER & STRONGER next year too…and the next.

@JustAnObserver6 you’re probably right. My friend from Buford was saying the same thing about the squad from last year as well.

@JusFellofftheturniptruck it was truly one of those games where we got handled. But the game would have been a lot better if the offense was a little more on point. Props to Buford for disrupting that though. But it might have been what we needed to see so we can gear up for the rest of the season even though I highly doubt we’ll see anybody else like that the rest of the year.
