@ Chase n others

Great historic win for you and the Pack. Seems as though the torch has officially been transferred North.

Assessment: it’s tough to find any fault with a first ever type of win, given that it was on the road, the history and closeness of the teams and players, and that any win is a win.

HOWEVER, and this is not any sort of sour grapes, merely a Realistic view of the game, without the cloud of the historic lense.

North’s Offense: At times looked absolutely incredible and unstoppable. However, During most of the second half, instead of finishing the job, the play calling became atrocious and along with a still proud East defense keep the Raiders in the game. The final 4th quarter drive finally did what should have been done much earlier and that is to trust their too little used running game. It chewed up both flock and yards. Grade B-, would be an A- if not for the odd play calling(a second half fake punt on 4th n 16 from their own side of the field…is that Bold….or just plain Poor play calling….ill go with the later).

East’s Offense: The running game seems to be a shell of itself from years past and without a proven qb after the fist series, the lack of depth showed through. Everyone knew this was Webb’s time to…well be Webb. Unfortunately with his injury, the Raiders quickly became predictable, and mediocre at best. No excuse what so ever, but we all got short changed with what could have been one of the potentially best games with his early departure. Grade D

North’s Defense: Played quick and inspired, with White running sideline to sideline to make tackles, He’s great, however the backers meed to keep the pressure off the back end by playing smarter and not running themselves out of plays. Smallish defensive front stood up well to the bigger East line and got a mice push in passing situations. Grade C+,

East’s Defense: Actually played pretty good given then ineptness of the Raider offense and being on the field all night. Too many players playing both ways, and with a hot night, hydration became an obvious issue with so much cramping. Not sure if North’s lousy play calling in early second half made them look better then they are or of they simply played their hearts out, but the combination certainly keep the game closer than it should have been Grade C.

Overall, a great win for North, enjoy it this morning then get back in the weight room, study the film, scrutinize the mistakes and find ways to improve. Do not let this go to your heads, Stay humble, and please please….North fans….don’t start talking about how great the team is or that it should be ranked. All that takes care of itself over time. Stay humble my friends, and keep working. East, keep fighting, it’s a lomg season, stay proud.

OK so it’s Saturday morning…the sun came up again, the world DIDN’T END!!!…BUT in 5AAAAA it is a BIT upside down!!! LOL!

NEW MANCHESTER is 2 / 0 and PAULDING COUNTY is 1 / 1…Congratulations and ENJOY IT…FOR NOW! VILLA RICA, SOUTH PAULDING, ALLATOONA are also 1 / 0…

And of course NORTH PAULDING’S WOLFPACK IS ALSO 1 / 0 after opening the season last night visiting “THE BONEYARD” against the RAIDERS!!! This one had all the makings of a playoff game and it showed as almost an hour before game time the place was getting PACKED and by game time it was STANDING ROOM with folks sitting on the hillside and lined up down the fences…IT WAS LOUD! Congratulations to the NORTH PAULDING folks for the crowd the brought, they were standing and cheering most of the night! Other teams should take a lesson from how this team’s student’s and family travels!

NORTH came prepared and ready to win…they wanted this game BAD!! Call it whatever you want…braggin’ rights…win # 1…to say they finally beat EAST…Whatever! They came ready to win!
GOOD JOB NORTH as they came in and won 27 / 13! Win # 1 on the season…now stay healthy and have a good run to the playoffs…

Now the BAD news…EAST is in trouble…they got beat BUT worse they lost their starting senior QB barely 7 minutes into the game! He returned to the sidelines with his shoulder in a sling and word was he could be out up to 4 weeks. That is unfortunately but only the tip of the iceberg as far as problems go for this years RAIDERS team…This game PROVED what many of us knew LAST year…When EAST lost Coach Reid and the administration overruled EVERYONE else and brought in a close buddy…Chuck Goddard…as the replacement (?) the RAIDER program that had come so far in 6+ years was in trouble…

You could see it in last years team and even though they went undefeated in the regular season it was still a Coach Reid team. It remembered what HE had taught them…they still knew how to win. Goddard inherited a team loaded with talent, a strong Junior QB and two 1,000+ yard rushers. Even with this team it showed from the start that he had NO CLUE how to win, make coaching decisions, or react to game situations…Many of the EAST wins last year were much closer than the score made it appear.

Now comes this year and we saw an EAST team take the field in a game that they should have been pumped UP for, ready to win but they came out and stood around on the sidelines talking and acting like all they had to do was show up and get another win. NO fire, NO will to win, UNPREPARED! and then comes the unfortunate hit and EAST loses their SENIOR QB…the key to them winning and that was the game. From that point EAST was outplayed and OUT COACHED all night. NORTH went for it on several 4th downs, recovered an onside kick, completed pass after pass, even made a 2 Pt conversion after a TD.

It’s looking like “THE BONEYARD” is going to be FULL of ghosts this year…the ghost of winning seasons, the ghost of what HAD been built and accomplished as EAST teams had been built from losers to where they had gotten…THEY HAD A WINNING ATTITUDE! EAST teams with less talent, smaller and slower had took the field and WON…they didn’t know they couldn’t or shouldn’t in some of those games…BUT THEY WON!!

After 6+ years of posting on here and watching EAST games…I fear the worst…those days are OVER and this Coach is going to destroy what has been built and return EAST to just another average team that can and WILL lose on any given Friday night. It was a good run and fun while it lasted.

Still a RAIDER FAN….Hold your heads up boys it’s not your fault!

we all saw it coming

That was the worst playing I have ever seen out of E.P. last night. This is what was expected to happen when the new head coach for E.P. was chosen because he was friends with the former principle and not because he knew how to coach. Simply look at Godard’s record as a head coach for Wheeler and Cass. The only reason for last years success was due to the last remaining talent coached by John Reid. So now it appears that job of representing Paulding Co. will fall on the North Paulding Wolfpack. It was a great run Raiders but the it’s sad to say that the good ol’ boy system seems to be sending you on way to mediocrity. I’m sure you’ll still be able to handle some of the teams in region 5aaaaa but I wouldn’t be looking for any more region championships or deep runs into the playoffs if you even make it anymore.

8:40 am

Wow, never expected this one, but I knew N Paulding had talent and Scott Jones is a good coach. Not Gary Varner good, but a good coach nonetheless…As for my Bucs, they dominated a bad Woodland team last night but as i said already, these Bucs are young and will have some bumps in the road this year. Very interested to see how we look against an improved PC Patriot team. Good news is we have 2 good young qb’s and 2 excellent rb’s, one only a sophomore. If you are going to beat Allatoona, do it this year, because the next 2 years we are STACKED. We do need a few more big uglies…also, look out opposing rb’s/qb’s/receivers for Bucs LB Justin Wade, he is a monster out there. He nearly decapitated a kid last night he hit him so hard! Best LB in the region by far. CANNON-losing Mitchell Webb hurts that is a tough blow and I suspect completely demoralized your raiders. Sorry to hear that.

Oh and the number of east p,ayers going both ways was very surprising. You could see the effects late in the game. There were east players going down with cramps on seemingly very play in the fourth quarter.

North is loaded with seniors this year. And there’s a lot of depth.

Actually, Northside’s new uniforms are old uniforms, throwbacks to 1960s, as Northside celebrates 50 years of football, the first 25 good, the last 25 outstanding.

Northside vs Flowery Branch recap

The Awesome
Willie Jordan and Glenn Smith, Northside’s new version of Thunder and Lightning, hereby nominated for best running back duo in the state.

The Good
Northside’s Run Defense and Special Teams, kicker/punter Issac Rivera is the real deal

The Bad
Northside’s Passing Offense, definitely a step down this year even with another Ivory at quarterback

The Ugly
Northside’s Pass Defense, open receivers all night, if not for dropped passes and penalties Flowery Branch would have made it a game

Flowery Branch
Overrated, not a top 10 team

9:58 am

Wow, Webb returning punts??? You gotta be kidding me…i mean if you had a stud backup maybe? that’s the dumbest thing i’ve heard of in a while, tells me all the talk about the E Paulding coach last year is true….N Paulding QB is no slouch either, and North has a bunch of talent in that pipeline..all 3 schools do, Allatoona/East/North…that’s gonna be fun to watch unless one or two of them end up in 6AAAAAA next year…

Great win Gainesville!

Now let’s strap it on Friday night at your place & have a game for the ages!!

BTW – I live in Flowery Branch, had kids go to Buford & work on the square in Gainesville, so like last season & the 3 prior to that, I have a vested interest in this game..

If Watson (who I have said going into last season might be the best HS QB ever in the state of Ga (Tony Flannigan is the only one close, (IMO)) has a game like last year, Buford wins.. I also believe that was a epic defensive battle 19-15. The Red Elephants did not see a better D all season & I believe that’s what pointed them to their State Championship…

Hope to see a good ole hard hitting, clean, uninjured game on BOTH sides!!

Go Wolves!!

North Paulding-East Paulding game was a classic rivalry type game but what was most impressive was how both teams and their fans showed respect and sportsmanship to each other. Im sure thee were a handful of sore losers who can’t handle a loss and poor winners who try to rub it in the other team’s faces. Both teams did get sloppy at times and made some mistakes. I don’t think either team executed the game plan to perfection the way their coaches had in mind. Very seldom do you see a perfectly played game. Some of the previous comments and criticisms that have been made in earlier posts are part of the game. East has had an awesome team over the last 6 years but over time there is always a shift of power in teams, it happens in every team sport at each level from youth sports to the pros. A couple of examples of teams who have been power houses but aren’t the dominant teams they were in the past: High School football – Parkview, Valdosta High School, Lakeside of DeKalb County, Dunwoody, Avondale, Thomas County Central and Washington County In College Football – Tennessee, Miami, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Penn State. In Pro Football Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, just to name a few.Every one of these teams dominated in their region, state, conference, or league for an era of time, but have you heard anything about them lately? I will agree to a degree with one of the previous posters about how a coach can ruin a program or destroy the foundation that has been made. It seems that anytime a team with a history of success in wins and titles has a bad season, the coaching staff, in particular the Head Coach is being blamed. And a lot of those times it is a new Head Coach and a new staff who has inherited a team with a winning tradition but in his first season does not have the success of the previous Head Coach and his staff. When that happens some of the boosters who have become used to winning seasons and now expect it every year are ready get rid of the new coach. I will agree that there have been times when a new coach has been brought in to coach a team and ihe was not a good match for the athletes or the community but was given the job for whatever reason and was a bad hire. But in fairness to the coaches, it isn’t always the coach and his staff who are the problem. A lot of the problems in college and especially pro sports can be blamed on financial backing. The college team with a lot of financial backing who has the best training facilities and athletic housing are going to be more attractive to a recruited athlete than the program that doesn’t. In the pros, it’s all about how much of a salary can be paid. But in high school sports, the community surrounding each school is who makes up the team. Money doesn’t play as much of an issue as the talent in the community. Money from boosters can help furnish a better training facility and shinier uniforms which can sometimes help in making an attractive opportunity to hire a coach.Although I hope we all aren’t so nieve as to not see some student-athletes whose family have the resources to “move” to a winning school with tradiditon. But for the majority high school teams the strength of the program will be based on the talent available. A good coach can develop the athlete’s talent to perform to be the best they can be. But in time, the community changes, the kids grow up, people move, and sometimes the community dries up. An local high schol example would be Lakeside High of DeKalb County, they ruled their Region and were always one of the top teams in the State for years. It was a new community made up a lot of young families with a lot kids to pick to make up a team. Over time the kids in those families grew up but their parents have remained there to live so new people did not move in which made the talent pool dry up. It happens everywhere and always will. I’m not in any way saying East Paulding is dried up, I believe they will rebound from last night’s defeat and be a better team. Let’s don’t forget they were undefeated last year until the 2nd round of the playoffs with their current head coach in fact. Also remember they lost some key players from last year who graduated. As much as it may sound crazy, sometimes a loss will wake up a team who has taken winning for granted and lost the hunger and the work ethic that got them where they are. This loss can be a character builder and make them a better team, give the coach and the team the opportunity to make some changes and grow up from last night’s loss.

As for the realistic fan who evidently must be a frustrated coach who is unemployed and looking for a team to coach based on his comments. The defense looked really good last night and probably are the real reason why North won the game. The offense did look great at times but they weren’t performing at the top of their game in last ight’s game. There were a couple of plays called that didn’t seem to make sense including the play in their own territory on 4th down in their own territory. But I would be willing to bet that is exactly why Coach Jones chose to go for it, it didn’t make sense and nobody expected it. if successful, it would have been a brilliant call. If we are going to criticize the bad play and play calls, let’s give credit for some good calls that Coach made that were successful. Fake punt in 1st quarter was successful for a first down, onside kick before the half when East was on their heels and taking it in for a score before halftime was huge. Bottom line if you don’t take some risks you aren’t going to win many games. North has way too many athletes at skill positions to just play line it up and ram it down your throat football. They have a bunch of talented and gifted players on both sides of the ball and to not utilize those talents would be poor coaching decisions, not the play calls that didn’t work as drawn up. But in reference to doing what they should have been doing, they did it when they needed to with the 7 minute drive at the end of the game. I think North is going to surprise some people and to those who have only seen them play the one game last night, try and make it to some future games. This team is going to be special. Last night it looked like all the Paulding County and surrounding schools are starting to get better. Look out Gwinnett County, the power is starting to shift again………..and it might end up in Paulding for a while.

@ TruthHurts…

Nice post BUT you really have NO CLUE about the coaching issue / problem at EAST…EAST got TOO GOOD…TOO FAST under Reid and his staff and when he decided to leave the word went out and several great choices were located that would have been a perfect fit to step in a continue growing the successful program that was ALREADY in place. You know the old saying…If it Ain’t broke don’t try to fix it…Well EAST was NOT broke!

Goddard WAS NOT the choice ANYONE wanted except the ex-principal who knowing he was leaving wanted to take care of his old buddy regardless of what it would do to the program. Goddard was not a choice of ANYONE else…he wasn’t even on the RADAR! He has NEVER won ANYWHERE he’s been and seems determined to continue that legacy at the expense of the EAST program.

If Coach Goddard had any bit of professionalism, class, or respect for the profession he would admit he was in over his head…resign…and let a qualified coach take over the team before the season is completely lost.

Are you comparing those 2 run of the mill teams from Florida to the #1 team in the nation Booker T. that destroyed Norcross? Sir Booker T. would beat the brakes off ANY school in Dekalb just like they did Norcross.

Funny when Gwinnett County was in 5A with Dekalb I did not see Dekalb win not one championship.

How can you play serious football when you all can’t even put lights on your fields? Please stop it.

You sound like a country homer…shift of power to Paulding County? Never. There are places that will always win 6A in every sport that counts every single year; Gwinnett, Cobb, Fulton, and South Georgia.

@JAB MLK would beat the breaks of Norcross this year and they could have beat them last year as well the last two years MLK had injuries at key skill postions and last year MLK had injuries and didnt play two starting ol and MLK star CB hardly played in that game in addition to that when they play a school the is lighter in color they have to play against the other school and the refs so please stop that nonsense and the school Stephenson played was ranked my friend they my not have been as good as Booker T but time will tell because Norcross clearly isnt what they were last year and the deklab schools did what they were suppose to do win big thanks

@ mlk c/o 2012 in the past mlk passed way too much passing on the 3 yard line come on coach Evans was good but took to long to get in plays and passed when he should have simply ran MLK is going to be fine being more balance plus this was the first game of the year and they played a school that had already played a game and MLK still won BIG!!!!!!!!!

@ RealTalk, what you talking man! Stephenson & MLK play in the best region in the state. They dominated Gwinnett County teams when they were up in the state’s highest classification. Stephenson Played North Gwinnett like true champs in the scrimmage game and should have won if it wasn’t for a called back TD.. Many of you guys will not admit how powerful Dekalb County teams are in region 6AAAAA, but the truth said is that they can & will play with anybody. When Stephenson Played against AAAAAA teams in the playoffs they only lost by a touchdown or field goal. They would have played Booker T Washington tougher and better than Norcross did… “ENOUGH SAID!”

September 1st, 2013
7:51 pm

@ RealTalk, please change your screen name to CrazyTalk, because obviously you don’t know nothing about Football, Norcross is not the same team that it was last year, was and highly rated wrongly. The top team in AAAAAA is North Gwinnett and Stephenson already humble them on their home field on a closely played scrimmage game. Ranking are for sports writers and publicity. How many top tanked teams actually win championships; true championship games are played & won on the field. If North Gwinnett would have played Booker T Washington. instead of Norcross, the outcome would have been different.

The X’s and O’s of the game are worked out week by week in the stats and wins & loses, who put up the most point? How did the defense played? How many tackles, hurry ups, QB sacks, 3 & out did the defense accomplished. How much yardage did the offense put up? How well did the QB played? How balance is thew passing and run game? How well do the QB work under pressure? etc. etc. etc. GET A LIFE, & GET WITH THE PROGAM…:)

What game did you watch? If you were impressed by sportsmanship, you must have had earplugs on. You didn’t hear North fans chanting “Where is Mitchell” during the 1st and 4th quarters, while he stood on the sidelines in a arm sling. That’s not sportsmanship where I come from.
@cannon rules
You are correct about Goddard. Everyone knew last yr he was not a good practice or game coach. East is, and in the future, will be down in talent. It will only get worse from here. Without Webb in the game this team is in for a long yr.
