Eastern Christian (Md.) 56, Banneker 13

Banneker scored on its first possession on an 81-yard run by Jalen White, but Eastern Christian stuffed the Trojans the rest of the game en route to a runaway win at Sandy Creek Thursday night.

In a game that finished with a running clock under mercy rules, quarterback David Sills passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Honey Badgers (1-0) erupted for three second-quarter touchdowns then converted three Banneker turnovers into third-quarter scores.

After White’s run gave Banneker a 7-0 lead, Eastern Christian’s Jahmee Ballard scored on a 9-yard run to pull within 7-6.

Sills’ 10-yard pass to Nieko Creamer gave the Honey Badgers a 12-7 lead with just over seven minutes left in the first half. Three minutes later Sills ran it in from 13 yards out, and Brian Smith’s run for the two-point conversion to make it 20-7.

Eastern’s Brandon Watson returned a fumble three yards for the final TD of the first half.

Eastern turned three turnovers into touchdowns in the first five minutes of the second half to turn the game into a rout.

Sills connected with Isaiah Esdale for a 19-yard touchdown pass to open the second half after Banneker fumbled away the kickoff. Taj Washington’s 6-yard run made it 40-7.

Banneker’s other score came on a 50-yard pass from Joe Turner to Kden Fortune-Johnson with 5:34 left in the game.

This may not be the time but it is the place. Aggressiveness may be a little down. Understandably so. Hang in there guy’s. Play with faith.

Has anyone read about the Honey Badgers? They were featured in a Sports Illustrated article last season…that school is mostly a football factory and exists in several buildings thrown together for a campus. They’re essentially an all-star football team…so Banneker shouldn’t feel bad.

how UN Christian to run up the score on those poor black kids. I am sure Obama and the NAACP will have something to say about that.
