Georgia pride: Can Colquitt atone for Norcross in Hoover game?

As Norcross picks up the pieces from its 55-0 loss to Booker T. Washington, the new No. 1-ranked team in Class AAAAAA, Colquitt County, puts Georgia back in the national spotlight on Friday with a game at Hoover of Alabama.

Colquitt and Hoover are the No. 1-ranked teams in the highest classifications of their states, and both are nationally ranked.

Does anyone think that Colquitt County needs to beat Hoover, or keep it close, to salvage Georgia’s reputation?

No one is questioning Georgia’s overall strength as a football state, but if two elite programs get slammed in consecutive weeks, some will doubt the strength of Georgia’s best handful of teams nationwide.

As for Norcross, was the 55-0 score a fluke, or is Norcross just not that good? There’s little question that BTW is one of the nation’s best teams. But can Norcross recover and defend its state title?

Norcross is saying the right things.

‘’We can’t get back time, and we can’t get this game back,’’ defensive end Lorenzo Carter told the AJC’s Adam Krohn after Saturday’s game. “We’ve got to do something about it moving forward.”

Norcross coach Keith Maloof didn’t make excuses and expected that his team would rebound.

‘’I think the group handled it well,’’ Maloof said. Playing on ESPN ‘’didn’t have anything to do with it – we just didn’t play well. We’ve been on TV three, four years now, so I don’t think that was a big deal, I just think we didn’t play good.’’

AAAAAA will be interesting in the next few weeks with these games –

Friday – No. 1 Colquitt County vs. Hoover

Sept. 6 – No. 2 Lovejoy at No. 1 Colquitt County

Sept. 13 – No. 3 North Gwinnett vs. No. 6 Norcross

Lots of other pretty good games in there as well, such as North Gwinnett-Grayson (Friday), Lassiter-McEachern (Friday), Parkview-Peachtree Ridge (Friday), Parkview-Norcross (Sept. 6), Parkview-Grayson (Sept. 31) and North Cobb-Walton (Sept. 13).

Here’s a sneak preview of the Maxwell Ratings’ projected margins of victory, to be published in full on Thursday.

Duluth vs. Berkmar -11

I think Lovejoy and Lowndes are getting a little to much love. Lovejoy faces it’s next door neighbor, Mundy’s Mill. These are the kids that would be at Lovejoy if not for the building of MM. They have one of the best backs no one has heard of in Robert Smith. Played 8-9 games a year ago and had about 1500 yards and 20 or so Td’s. This is a big game in the Southern Crescent.

Luella brings back experience and a true running back in Trea Bonner. They will go and play ball. Let us not forget what we saw Saturday.

In regards to the Georgia Pride thing, we do have games involving Florida teams matched against DeKalb schools. I know the name recognition and the prestige are not quite the same but it is Georgia-Florida.

I am probably Colquitt’s biggest critic on these blogs but I hope they handle business with attitude. I hope they have a good game all around get a well earned win. It would be good for the state. As for Saturday, sometimes the prognosticators miss. There are better teams in Georgia. Norcross is better than what they showed.

Maloof did not say the right things immediately after the game (and if this website was any good, I could find the story here rather than only on my phone, where you can’t comment). He said that they weren’t outplayed physically, they just “made more mistakes”. Assinine. You lose 55-0, you were outplayed physically, mentally, and every other way possible. It could have been worse but Miami called off the dogs in the fourth quarter. You were completely and totally whipped in every possible way, coach. Own up to it.

Lowndes defense is for real this year .The Lowndes Moultrie game is going to be very good. But right now I give Moultrie the edge. We will see.

There’s no such thing as one team atoning for another. The only team that can atone for Norcross is NORCROSS! It will be a long time before they can live down this game……. :-)

I really hope Colquitt can play a great game at Hoover this Friday night. And this is coming from a Dekalb County resident, who always hopes South Georgia teams lose. But for once, the state is relying on Colquitt to look impressive and play excellent against a very tough Hoover team.

Pffft… I’m not backing Corrupt County for any “feel good” measure…folks in Moultrie “sold out” for a few cheap victories. Sad to see that the media with all the information available to them would back a morally corrupt outfit… but it’s typical.

@CANDEN74..I Totally agree with you about the atonement in the norcross loss…the pack is the pack,,n norcross is norcross….we play packer fb,,,not everybody else style of fb. pack has nothing 2 do with no team whether they win by a big margin or lose by a big margin….but overall 4 the state of ga. it would be nice if we win against hoover on fri. along with all the other out of state opponents that ga.teams are playing against 2 bring back a little superiority 2 gahsf,,bc indeed it still is some quality hs football teams in the state of ga that can win & compete with national teams.i wish all the teams well on their travel there n back,n hopefully come home victorious..as far as the pack being #1 that doesnt swell nobodys ego down here bc every year we seem 2 be somewhere in the top 10,,,#1 ranking means very little 2 us bc we dont concentrate on rankings,,we concentrate on trying 2 win fb games…dont get me wrong,,our boys will play hard 2 keep the #1 ranking, but if we dont so what!!!..being #1 is like being ranked #10 to us bc being ranked #1 doesnt always get you 2 the title game in dec. 2 things must happen if we want 2 uphold the #1 rankings…gotta stay healthy,& win every game… everybody know how tough our schedule is… but despite that every game has 2 be played like its a championship game…after we play hoover,& lovejoy then the picture will be somewhat clear,,,,,,,,,,,,not totally clear….. as 2 what kinda fb team we really have & how hungry they are 2 win it all

I just hope Colquitt goes and plays ball to the best of their abilities. There should be no pressure on them to do anything other than be true to themselves and each other. They should just do what they do. I am pulling for them but it will not end Georgia football if they do not.

Where were all of these “Norcross is not that good” comments BEFORE the game ?!? I agree 100% Norcross was dominated in every possible way in that game but I wouldn’t be so fast to count them out. Lets not lose focus here. This was pretty much an “exhibition” game which does not matter in the standings nor Norcross’ defense of their state title. Norcross still has a 15 game winning streak in Georgia…Name the last Georgia team to beat Norcross…Colquitt ? NO….Camden? NO…N Gwinnett ? NO Ptree Ridge ? NO…it was Dacula

Tha Truth……I stated before the game was played that Norcross shouldn’t have any problem beating BTW. But, they would need to match them point for point. Also the fact that BTW had overall team speed unlike any team they had previously played. I also stated that they should not expect a team similar to last year’s Central Miami team that played Grayson………I always have respect for FL. Teams. They are normally packed with athletes with blazing speed. But normally don’t play with much discipline! Oh, one more thing, Norcross played virtually mistake free ball against Camden, Camden didn’t! That’s the ONLY reason they came away with the win! :-D

Norcross just isn’t that good, they are lacking leadership, leadership that Kamara had when he willed them to the title last season and BT Washington was all that and the bag of chips. @TheTruth nobody cares about state winning streaks, see when you have to go reaching for stuff like that you know your’re in trouble.. Norcross will rebound but I’ll name the next Georgia team to beat Norcross… North Gwinnett!

Hoover , will be exposed by Colquitt. Prost have those guys ready to play. I am not a big fan of Prost or the pack but you have to give credit where its due. I believe it will boil down to North Gwinette and Colquitt County. As far as Norcross and the spanking they took. I believe that BTW would beat any high school in Georgia, they were well coached and discipline. They fooled a lot of people (it will be over by half time)..The only thing that helped Norcross was a running clock (Colquitt win region 16AAAAAA,which is pretty evenly match this year)

How is Probst a cheat? I do know that he is not a very likeable guy, but he does win and does so without cheating. Move to Alabama if you can’t get behind your Georgia teams. I would pull for Camden any time they would play an out of state school.

i want colquitt to win the game, but they must play much better than they did against grayson. Hoover would blow this years grayson team off the field. Hoover has some “hawgs” of their own. Those alabama boys are eating plenty of cornbread. I want colquitt to win..i really do. I would love nothing more than for them to be undefeated when they come to martin stadium soon so we can hand them their first loss. From what a friend of mine told me today …he says that lovejoy looks about as good as they did last year and the running back they have now is better than cutlas or whatever that guys name was. I see colquitt losing by 14 -17 points but i hope i am wrong. If hoover is as good as they are being made out to be then it could be a blowout.

“South Panola was the #1 team in the country when we played them. They were terrible when Hoover played them. Keep trying”

South panola was 13-2 last year and finished #1 in the state of mississippi. They won the title also. so you keep thinking they were terrible. That program is legit year in and year out.

@bksmith14 the 2010 season is when we played s.panola.they were #1 in the country & had some of the biggest boys you ever seen on both sides of the ball.true enough they beat us 65-35.we had a sorry defense that year & couldnt stop them.our problem wasnt scoring points,it was stopping their running game.they were running through the arms of our defenders bc they were huge guys.their rb’s were as big as their ol guys..i promise you if our defense in 2010 was anything like it is now,we would of beat s.panola…..2010 is the same yr.we went 2 the dome & lost to brookwood 52-38 we couldnt stop nobody, but we could score points
