Donquell Green, lightning strike; thriller in Dalton

Lightning was the only thing that could stop Burke County quarterback Donquell Green on Friday.
The Bears’ senior quarterback scored on his first two carries of the game and later threw a touchdown pass to put Burke County up 21-0, before the game was stopped due to lightning early in the second quarter.
The game will not be considered official and is unlikely to be rescheduled, according to The Augusta Chronicle.
Green scored on a 79-yard run on the first play of the game and also has 23-yard touchdown run. He had 235 yards of offense in the first quarter, the Chronicle reported.

Dalton’s 27-game win streak versus Ringgold snapped in a 33-27 triple overtime loss. The Catamounts had not lost to the Tigers since 1983. Each team blocked extra points in overtime to stay alive, before Ringgold forced a clinching turnover in the third overtime to secure the victory.
Lithonia quarterback Rico Bruton threw touchdowns to Micah Stewart and Courtney Lott, and Frank Turner returned an interception in a 36-0 shutout of South Atlanta. It’s Lithonia’s first win over South Atlanta, which has lost eight straight games.
West Laurens struggled offensively, managing just a 30-year field goal from Bill Leroy, in a 27-3 loss to Vidalia. http://savannahnow.com/sports/2013-08-23/high-school-roundup-vidalia-dominates-west-laurens-27-3#.UhirA5LVCHM

Might help if I put who they were playing … lol … Burke Co. vs. Thomson. Hope I get a chance to see Green play this season. Sounds impressive.

Thomson is usually pretty good. It’s a shame he didn’t get a full game in.

Good stuff, David.

Donquell Green is the lowest-rated ”recruit” among the AJC’s Super 11. Not that he isn’t being recruited heavily, but most of the other 10 are 4 stars or better. But this kid has been dominating the high school gridiron since he was a sophomore. Everybody who sees him play raves about him. And Thomson is no slouch.

He is very quick and when he hits the outside he has an extra gear that he engages, but he is very small. Saw him against Sandy Creek last year and he was impressive but except for one run was held in check.

I was on the sidelines of Burke Co. vs Thomson and the speed and quickness Green have is outstanding. Thomson is usually a tough team and is no slouch, 235 yards of offense in one quarter is impressive. Green threw the ball very well and if this young team continue to improve we should get another chance to go deep in the playoffs. I would love to see another Burke Co. Sandy Creek rematch. I hope we play a couple of tough games during the regular season that will get us ready for the playoffs but I doubt we will have much of a challenge this season.

Since the game was unofficial, do the stats come off the board as well??

@SGT CHRIS
Unfortunately, for his potential player of the year chances, the stats won’t count. I just hope that the voters take it into consideration that he put up over 200 yds in 1 quarter against a top ten team. I have been raving about this kids ability for years now. I don’t think it’s too far of a stretch to say that he may be the best player in BC history. When I was there we had a couple of studs in Charles Jones (Alabama), Michael Youngblood (Ga. Southern), and earlier in the BC history the amazing Chris Abrams, BUT Gator Green’s game changing ability from anywhere on the field or side of the ball (offense, defense, return game) is like nothing I have seen.. My closest comparison that I have actually seen in person would be Deion Grants total dominance while he was at Josey in Augusta. Other than that, I don’t remember a player that excels THAT well in all facets of the game. Do your thing Gator Green! Love you and my Burke County boys!! New York is following as usual…Come on Burke County!! Let’s paint Clemson Red Saturday!!!

badbrad he did throw two touchdown passes as well. I think that’s excellent against those D1’s. Lack of depth was BC’s problem and it showed nd 4th. Not many AAAA have that kind depth but maybe great athletes just love living in Fayette co. Well in Burke co, either you live or you don’t. The land mass is too spread (rural) out for an influx an great football players to just move there. And Wayne we hate to bore you but that’s why we play the game. Guess c/o 2014 is the best SC can buy. Excluding BC I think yall blew everyone else out and wasn’t even challenged. Wonder how one team gets head and shoulders above everyone else in the state? Donquell Green is the most electrifying player in the state.

BearCounty, I didn’t say anything about I was bored with our season just referencing the lack of good football teams we will face in the regular season.

pardon me. aren’t y’all suppose to be playing one of the top teams in Florida Friday? isn’t carrollton in your region? hardly a snoozer bn they are ranked # 2. i know the feeling though. we do play thomson, wayne co,statesboro and coffee co this year. those are about the only ones to generate excitement around here (not disrespecting the other teams). again sorry for the misunderstanding.
