Seven Georgia teams earn spot in national rankings

Seven Georgia schools can be found in national rankings as the 2013 season is set to kick off.

Norcross, Georgia’s Class AAAAAA champion in 2012, heads the list with six top-six rankings, peaking at No. 2. Sandy Creek is as high as No. 5 in one poll.

Norcross will play Booker T. Washington of Miami, the No. 1-ranked team in USA Today, on Saturday in a home game televised by ESPN.

Norcross coach Keith Maloof told GHSF Daily on Tuesday that talk of a national title is fun, but it’s not a tangible goal.

“It would be fun for the community and for the school, but in reality, we don’t have control over that,” Maloof said. “We don’t have a playoff system. We could go 15-0 and end up No. 16 in a national poll like last year. What we do have control over is what we do in our region and the state of Georgia. It so happens that if we play really good this weekend and do it the rest of year, we have a chance. But right now, it’s one game at a time.”

Wow!! So many Georgia high schools excelling in what matters most, football! With parents supporting football more than academics, these boys will have a bright future loading trucks.

Gregory, what’s wrong with loading trucks? Someone has to do it, plus, it’s honest work! Besides that, if I’m loading my trucks, from my company, life’s grand! :-)

Gregory what a stupid comment. So you want them to do well in Academics but do not excel in Football? No one said it matters most.

Are you saying Gregory was the NERD KING or the guy who hung around the football players so the girls would notice him? :-)
