Volleyball: Raiders defeat Hoyas in 6A showdown

No. 1 Walton is on a roll this season, looking for its fourth consecutive state title season. Over the weekend, the undefeated Raiders beat Chattahoochee, Westminster and Holy Innocents’ before topping 6A No. 2 Harrison.

Jessica Sloan helped spark the Raiders by recording 14 kills in the Harrison match. Celeste Fitzgerald stuffed the stat sheet with 23 assists, seven digs and a pair of aces against the Hoyas.

Johns Creek has gotten battle tested early, and dropped in the rankings after a grueling early-season slate. The 4-4 Gladiators dropped two matches to Blessed Trinity and one each to McIntosh and North Cobb.

Mill Creek dropped out of the top five after a tough stretch as well. Consecutive losses to South Forsyth, Wesleyan, Woodward Academy and Blessed Trinity, shows that the Hawks still have growing to do this season.

In Class AAAAA Pope is off to a fast start, and enters the week 6-1. The Greyhounds visit undefeated Blessed Trinity on Thursday.

We have a new No. 1 in Class AAAA. The Blue Devils had a key win over Sandy Creek on Saturday (25-15, 30-28). The Patriots drop to No. 2 and this classification looks to be up for grabs any given week. Marist jumps into the No. 3 spot over Southwest Whitfield

In what is perhaps the best classification so far, Blessed Trinity remains at No. 1 in Class AAA.

Class AA Wesleyan has worn its No. 1 well, and its two losses were in the season opener to Marist and to Class AAAAAA-power North Cobb over the weekend. The Wolves hold wins over Dunwoody, Mill Creek, Brookwood and Northview.

In Class A Landmark Christian held off Walker over the weekend. Walker led 15-12 in the first set, before Landmark Christian stormed on a 9-0 run to close the set.
