Charlton County 11-3, Gordon Lee 4-10: The Class A-Public championship series between Charlton County and Gordon Lee kicked off Saturday, resulting in a split. The host Charlton County Indians won the first game 11-4. The Gordon Lee Trojans took the second game 10-3. The Indians out hit the Trojans 11-7 in the first game; however, in the second game of the series, the Trojans out hit the Indians 10-8.

Charlton County senior pitcher and first baseman, Ryan Young, earned the win in Game 1 after pitching six innings. Young will play at Gordon College next year. At the plate, sophomore L.J. Talley drove in a run, singled twice, doubled and tripled.

Charlton County reached the Class A championship series last year, falling to Providence Christian. Charlton County head coach Thad Marchman spoke about what was needed to avoid another second-place finish.

“We just have to find a way to make some adjustments,” said Marchman. “We still have the advantage of playing at home so hopefully we can come back on Monday and put together a good game plan.”

He also noted that he expects this team to “bounce back and be ready to protect (its) home turf.”

Gordon Lee’s Game 2 pitcher, Conard Broom, was exceptional, only allowing two runs. Also, the bats of Jake Rogers, Adam Vandiver, and Bryce Bailey brought in the majority of the runs for the Trojans as Gordon Lee evened the series. In order for Gordon Lee to win Game 3, the Trojans will have to find a way to keep their momentum on offense.

The decisive Game 3 of the GHSA Class A-Public championship series will be played Monday at 3:30 pm in Folkston.

Gordon Lee Athletics is loving this Public-Private split! Went from dominating one sport (softball) to playing for titles in quite a few this year.

Yes it has been a “banner year” (pun intended) for GL athletics, but before all the haters jump on here talking about how GL isn’t a true public school, please be aware of the fact that our softball “dominance” (your word, not mine) started with a perfect 38-0 season before the split (still the only undefeated fastpitch softball season in GHSA history), and several of our victories in other sports have included wins over privates. Just sayin…

Gordon Lee/ Chickamauga City schools are true Public schools and anyone who says different is Crazy ! The Big Blue has had an amazing year ! But let all the doubters who say different know this we have never dodge any of the Atlanta Private schools in any sport ! God have Mercy on them should we ever go Private because it would not be pretty for them ! The Public/ Private split should have happened a long time ago ! Give us the same rules and see what we do to you year in and year out !

Congrats on beating the other 31 schools that fielded a baseball team in the state.

You must know my comment from above is true. You seem to have a thorn in your side for Gordon Lee which is certainly fine by me . So which ever private school you pull for we must have really hung one on you !

Easy Gordon Lee, you only beat 30 of the other state baseball teams, Charlton County was able to run the table and beat ‘em all!
