Class AAAA Boys Soccer State Championship: Dalton 5, Southeast Whitfield 0

By Stephen Black

Score Atlanta

Dalton (22-0) finished its perfect season with a 5-0 thrashing of Southeast Whitfield Friday in the Class AAAA boys state championship game at University Field in Carrollton. It was the fourth time this season the Catamounts had defeated their Whitfield County neighbor.

Salvador Rodriguez scored Dalton’s initial goal just two minutes into the match with a 40-yard volley. Eder Mora scored next 10 minutes in, then Daniel Palacios scored twice to give the Catamounts a 4-0 halftime lead. Ramiro Huitanda closed out the scoring in the second half with his 48th goal of the season, a school record. Huitanda ends his career with 87 goals, another Dalton record.

It is the Catamounts’ second soccer state championship. The first state title came in 2003, when Dalton shared the championship with Heritage-Conyers.

Dalton is not only the best team in 4A they are the best team in the state across all classes and probably the best in the nation. Go Cats!

Come on Dalton its time to schedule some big boy teams. If you want respect earn it. Play some of the Cobb and Gwinnett teams. Heck play Mcintosh or Starrs Mill they always play tough schedules. Your out of conference schedule looks pathetic. Congrats on the championship. But before we can take you serious schedule some tough teams.

Really. Before you start hating, where is your team ranked on the eurosportsscoreboard? We’ve been no.1 for the past 3 years. And your big boy schools are exactly that big boy schools. Higher classification means harder to schedule, but I guess you knew that. Anyway GO CATS!!!

Read the GA Soccer forum. There’s a guy on there that says your not the top team in the state. He actually thinks McIntosh is. And there also ranked # 1 Nationally. If any Cobb or Gwinnett team played your schedule they to would be state champs. Tell your coach to drive south and play some real competition.

Okay really. Apples and oranges dude. It’s easy to attack someone’s schedule isn’t it? You are trying to say every team in your class is a “powerhouse”? If that’s the case then you guys would just be average. Here’s a novel idea. Tell your coach to take the drive up north to see where the real competition is. We had 3 team from our region make it to the semis alone, Dalton, Southeast and Northwest. And you are trying to call our schedule weak?
