Dalton (22-0) finished its perfect season with a 5-0 thrashing of Southeast Whitfield Friday in the Class AAAA boys state championship game at University Field in Carrollton. It was the fourth time this season the Catamounts had defeated their Whitfield County neighbor.
Salvador Rodriguez scored Dalton’s initial goal just two minutes into the match with a 40-yard volley. Eder Mora scored next 10 minutes in, then Daniel Palacios scored twice to give the Catamounts a 4-0 halftime lead. Ramiro Huitanda closed out the scoring in the second half with his 48th goal of the season, a school record. Huitanda ends his career with 87 goals, another Dalton record.
It is the Catamounts’ second soccer state championship. The first state title came in 2003, when Dalton shared the championship with Heritage-Conyers.
