Michael Gettys of Gainesville and Dylan Cease of Milton are the first two Georgia players to be selected to play in the Under Armour All-America Game on Aug. 24 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Gettys is a center fielder and pitcher who has committed to Georgia. He is batting .470 while 6-0 as a pitcher with a 0.00 ERA in 38 innings. He has 63 strikeouts. Gainesville is 21-3. Gettys has signed with Georgia.
Cease is a pitcher whose fastball has hit 97 mph this season, according to Milton coach Joey Ray. Cease is 5-0 with an 0.39 ERA. He also is hitting .390 with two home runs.
The game showcases 36 of the best high school players in the country. They are selected by a committee of Baseball Factory scouts. Only 14 players have been picked so far.
Players who have participated include Byron Buxton, the former Appling County center fielder who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft to the Minnesota Twins.
