Soccer: McIntosh girls move into top 5

In Class AAAAAA, Lambert moved back into the top five after putting together wins against Alpharetta and Johns Creek. Brookwood and Central Gwinnett, meanwhile, took a short fall out of the top five after taking losses last week. Berkmar, winners of Region 8, entered the top 10 after beating Brookwood last week in a crucial match.

Gainesville erupted in a 4-1 win over Heritage-Conyers Friday and was rewarded with a No. 6 ranking. Starr’s Mill dropped to No. 5 after a lopsided defeat to McIntosh while Houston County and Allatoona moved up a spot.

West Hall moved up to No. 2 in Class AAA after quality wins against East Hall and North Hall in the past week. Blessed Trinity dropped to No 3 after losing to Roswell. Jackson entered the rankings for the first time sporting a 13-0 record.

Calhoun took over at No. 2 in Class AA after a quality win over Murray County. Coosa dropped after losing to Murray County, while Thomasville, Westside Augusta and Benedictine each moved up.

Holy Innocents’ made a meteoric leap into the top five after beating Fellowship Christian and Pinecrest Academy convincingly last week. Mount Paran dropped out after losing to Walker and North Atlanta while Savannah Christian returned to the top 10 after winning three straight.

Walton enters the Class AAAAAA poll thanks to a victory over last week’s No. 2 Lassiter. The Raiders have also defeated Lambert, Etowah and Milton in recent weeks and own a victory over No. 5 Brookwood earlier this season. The Trojans dropped to No. 4 following the loss as both Parkview and Mill Creek bumped up one spot. No. 3 Mill Creek pulled off a huge road win at new No. 9 Collins Hill. South Forsyth fell from the rankings after losing to Chattahoochee.

Northview fell in the AAAAA poll after a 3-2 loss to Pope, allowing Lakeside-DeKalb to improve to No. 2. McIntosh moves up from No. 8 to No. 5 after a 2-0 victory over Starr’s Mill, down to No. 6 following the loss. New No. 4 North Paulding scored a victory over Class AAAA No. 9 Alexander to rise up from No. 6 last week. Northgate is the newest team to join the AAAAA poll at No. 10 as Houston County slipped from the rankings.

Grady moved up in the AAAA poll after beating Chamblee and Columbia while Upson Lee took the No. 10 spot. Spalding fell from the poll following it’s loss to Upson Lee.

In the AAA poll, Ringgold took out Cartersville on the pitch last Thursday and took the Purple Hurricanes’ No. 10 spot. Putnam County has moved up to No. 6 in the AA poll thanks to a 13-game winning streak.

The biggest change in Class A saw Providence Christian fall to No. 8 after new No. 6 Paideia scored a 4-1 win last Tuesday. Paideia also beat Pace Academy. No. 7 Calvary Day bounced Savannah Country Day from the poll, allowing Eagles Landing Christian to enter the rankings at No. 10.
