Lacrosse: Westminster, Walton climb after Dogwood Classic

The Walton Raiders and Westminster Wildcats split this weekend’s 2013 Dogwood Girls Lacrosse Classic title after battling to a 13-13 tie. With the share of the title, Walton moved up to No. 3 in the AAAAAA poll, followed by Mill Creek and Lassiter. Milton and Centennial still occupy the top two spots. Class AAAAAA No. 9 Kennesaw Mountain came up short to Ohio power Upper Arlington for third place in the Dogwood Classic while Class A-AAAAA No. 6 Woodward Academy beat out Holy Innocents’ for fifth place.

Etowah checks in at No. 8 after taking out Kennesaw Mountain while Alpharetta stays at No. 10 and Grayson falls from the polls.

Westminster swapped spots with Cambridge atop the A-AAAAA poll thanks to several quality victories. The Dogwood Classic title was Westminster’s fourth straight.

In the boys rankings, Lassiter moved up to No. 4 after a pair of wins against Harrison and Pope. Milton dropped from first place after falling to a pair of out-of-state foes. Milton didn’t play after falling to St. Thomas Aquinas. Centennial maintained its spot at No. 2 after going 2-1 against Florida opponents. New No. 1 Mill Creek posted a pair of wins against Greater Atlanta Christian and Mountain View. Lambert fell to No. 9 after losing to a Florida opponent. Etowah returned to the rankings at No. 6 while Chattahoochee climbed to No. 7.

Decatur remained No. 2 in Class A-AAAAA after defeating No. 5 Westminster. Marist rounds out the rankings at No. 10 following a pair of wins last week.
