Local all-star game gives unsigned players another look

Signing Day has passed, but several pretty good local high school basketball players are still looking for the right school.

Some have choices, others don’t, but exposure is the idea behind the World of Sports Private vs. Public Senior All-Star Basketball Games will be held Saturday at the renovated Tri-Cities gym.

Top boys players include first-team all-state forward Naquavious King of South Atlanta and Region 6-AAA player of the year Solomon Mangham of Woodward Academy.

The top girls players are Miller Grove’s Tashi Thompson, Woodland’s Lindsey Reed, Luella’s Carrington Johnson and Hughes’ Briunca Caldwell, all first-team all-region selections.

‘’Atlanta has a lot of unseen talent, especially the girls,’’ game founder Joshauwa Brown said. ‘’Some kids need that extra platform to get noticed to get an athletic scholarship.’’

The coaches will be Darron Rogers (boys) and Hilda Hankerson (girls) of Westlake, David Jones of Greenforest Christian (boys) and Jackie Cowan of Southwest Atlanta Christian,.

The girls’ game starts at 3:30 p.m., the boys’ game at 5:30.

Sound good my son Andre’ Elam of Westlake will be participant of this game. He said there’s alot of talented kids on the Public School team. He has interest from several Div. I schools with Georgia State and Wagner Univ. being the latest. He was selected as All-Region and All-Metro this year. Come out to support a good cause and watch some great high school basketball players. I’ve seen Solomon Mangham play and he’s a very skilled player.

Would have liked to known about this event sooner? There are several god players academically and athletically on the west side (Lithia Springs Douglasville, Villa Rica, Hiram) that are going unnoticed.
The High School Coaches are not helpful or supporting by any means. Therefore, it is up to AAU and parents to enable any type of opportunities.
