Baseball: Three new No. 1’s in Week 3 poll

By Score Atlanta

There is a new No. 1 in Class AAAAAA as Lambert took over for Parkview, which dropped games to Brookwood and Lassiter. Milton climbed into the top 10 with impressive victories over Walton and Lassiter. Brookwood also climbed into the rankings after wins over Parkview and Grayson.

In Class AAAAA, Gainesville dropped after losses to Winder-Barrow and Mill Creek. Winder-Barrow and Pope debuted in the top 10 after recent winning streaks.

Like the state’s largest classification, Class AAAA also saw a changing of the guard as Crisp County took over the top spot for Columbus, which lost to Carrollton. Wayne County entered the rankings after six straight wins and Redan joined after winning nine straight.

Buford lost to North Hall and fell to No. 2 in Class AAA as a result. Blessed Trinity, riding a 7-game winning streak, took over at the top. North Hall advanced to No. 3 while Woodward Academy entered the rankings after triumphing in seven of eight contests. Appling County fell to No. 10 after a loss to Pierce County and a bad loss to Brantley County. Pierce County, meanwhile, fell to No. 5 after a 15-0 humiliation by Wayne County.

Lovett held on to No. 1 in Class A despite losing Game 1 of a 3-game series to Westminster. The rivals will play two more this week. Jefferson won 11 of 12 and moved to No. 2. Pepperell entered the rankings at No. 10. Westminster moved to No. 3, a season best for the Wildcats, after beating Lovett and St. Pius.

Well…. this AAA ranking attempt certainly is a huge improvement over Score Atlanta’s first two attempts. Pierce and Buford are still to high… but at least they finally got BT in the right spot. Buford will play it’s third quality opponent this season (NH) again tonight …. will the wolves go a perfect 0-3 against quality??? If the wolves should lose …. yet again to NH… I wonder how far Stephen Black and ScoreAtlanta will drop Buford in next week’s poll … Maybe to #3??? LMAO. IDK…. maybe we should wait for the infamous AAA Baseball Guru Dr. bob Giggles… To ring in with his expert thoughts.

I guess we need to tell McEachern to stop winning, so they don’t fall any further from the rankings?

Really?

You honestly can leave Houston County out of the 5A rankings? They are 12-1 and have beat a ranked Johns Creek team earlier this year. Awesome power ranking you have.

What is the word on Colquitt County? They beat Crisp the number one in AAAA, and Tift……a former ranked team in AAAAAA. I hear they are solid with pitching and hitting.

Glad to see Milton made the top 10. 3-0 in one of the toughest region with victories over 3 top 10 teams. They also represented the state well today at the USA Baseball High School invitational in Cary.NC – 4-3 victory over a very tough Hamilton HS out of Arizona. Unfortunately Grayson did not fare as well against a very good team out of San Diego.

Wow. McEachern has beaten three teams in the top ten, all of which have a worse record. They go undefeated since the last poll in which they were in the middle of the top ten, only to fall out of the rankings.

It’s just a poll, fellow Indian fans…I agree it doesn’t make a lick of sense for a team to drop completely out despite not losing a single game but GHSA let’s us settle it on the field. I’m gonna wait on the playoffs and see where we shake out. Sure proud of this team, though- the boys are really having a heap of fun out there this season and we look to be in good shape for the next few years, too.

I think Mceachern should be in the top 5. It will be two great games with Marietta next probably for the region championship

Glad AJC does this, but impossible to be accurate. Chapel Hill is better than Alexander (lost in 30 degree meltdown in the last 2 innings, but isn’t even ranked in AAA. Calloway either. Even 3rd best Central Carrollton is better than half of the AAA list.

Look out for North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge as both are 3-0 in Region 7 AAAAAA. #6 Mill Creek lost to North Gwinnett last night. North Gwinnett has also beaten #1 Lambert. Peachtree Ridge has defeated 4-AAAAAA leaders McEachern and Region 8 leaders South Gwinnett who beat #4 Parkview last night. They play each other tomorrow.
