Kevin Jones, the defensive coordinator for a pair of state runner-up teams at Lovejoy, is the new head coach at Dutchtown.
Jones replaces Jason Galt, who was hired as head coach at North Forsyth.
Lovejoy’s defenses under Jones posted 15 shutouts in the past three seasons and held opponents to eight or fewer points 12 other times. Defensive back Jermaine Hough and linebacker Nathaniel Norwood were their classification’s state defensive players of the year the past two seasons.
Dutchtown, a Region 4-AAAA school in Hampton that opened in 2004, was 6-4 in 2012 and peaked with an 11-2 finish in 2010.

Sad to see coach go. Coach Jones has done a tremendous job at Lovejoy and will be missed. The kids really bought into what he was selling and it made them what they became, the best D in the state for both AAAA and AAAAAA in consecutive years. Being who I am, I will now make the 5 mile trip down McDonough Rd. to see Dutchtown play. I am sure he will have them playing very aggressive D and he will continue to mold these young men just as he did at Lovejoy.
Good luck Coach and may your future be bright as you embark on this journey as the BMOC.

As a Bulldog fan I hated to see Coach Galt leave, but he got an offer he couldn’t refuse and would be crazy to turn down. I wish him luck.
However, I am completely on board with Coach Jones and what he will bring to the Bulldogs. Having seen what he has done with the Wildcat defense makes it that much more exciting to be a Bulldog fan.
BTW, somebody at the AJC needs to change the by-line. It should read “Lovejoy Defensive Coodinator Jones hired at Dutchtown” No charge for the proofreading on this one.

Coach Jones coached me in high school, while he was the D-Coordinator at Redan. Very great coach, that knows how to get the players to buy into his system.
Wish you the best coach.

Whatever Dutchtown….the Mighty Griffin Bears will still own you, regardless of your coaching upgrade.

I am fully excited that these boys are getting a new coach; maybe we can start seeing our players get D-1 scholarships instead of dealing with a coach who tells scouts “I have no D-1 athletes,” yet tells his players that “if the schools want you they will come get you!”
So to you Coach Jones, be the man that these kids need you to be!
