AAAA Girls: Columbia 49, Jonesboro 44
For the first 30 minutes of the second Class AAAA semi-final, it looked like Jonesboro was headed for the final. But high school games are 32 minutes.
Miah Spencer’s three-pointer with just under 2 minutes left in regulation gave Columbia it’s first lead of the game, 39-38, and the Eagles hung on to advance to the finals with a 49-44 win.
Columbia trailed by 14 at the half, 27-13. Eagle head coach Chantay Frost adjusted her team’s attitude with some blunt words at halftime.
“We didn’t follow the game plan at all in the first half,” Frost said. “We didn’t take care of the ball. We didn’t rebound and play defense. We told them it was time to dig down deep and they did.”
Yaktavia Hickson, who had 12 points in the fourth quarter, led the way for the Eagles with 18, while Spencer added 16. Raven Wynn led Jonesboro with 18. Briana Benson added 14.
