No. 4 North Gwinnett’s season ends on Meadowcreek buzzer-beater

North Gwinnett, the fourth-ranked team in Class AAAAAA, is done for the season – no thanks to a 3-point shot at the buzzer from Meadowcreek’s Terrance Snelling.

In the upset of the post-season so far, Meadowcreek defeated North Gwinnett 57-55 on Wednesday in the Region 7-AAAAAA boys tournament. It was the quarterfinals, meaning the winner gets one of the four state-playoff berths from the region. The loser is out. North Gwinnett’s promising season ends despite a 19-6 record.

Meadowcreek (9-17) trailed 45-34 toward the end of the third quarter when Snelling made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to pull his Mustangs within eight points entering the final period.

Meadowcreek plays eighth-ranked Peachtree Ridge on Friday. The semifinals and finals determine the order the teams will be seeded for the state tournament. Meadowcreek will be going for the first time since 2010..

The only other ranked teams that have been eliminated from the state tournament this week are Mount Zion of Jonesboro (No. 6 boys in AAAAA) and Creekview (No. 6 girls in AAAAA).

Mount Zion lost to Creekside in the 4-AAAAA tournament. Creekview lost to Sprayberry in the Region 7-AAAAA tournament.

I was going to add that maybe Stackhouse could adopt five more players. Of course Milton was the only basketball program to have transfers in Georgia. Right? Someone told me, and this could be an exaggeration, but that there isn’t a single player on Norcross’s roster that did not transfer in. At least Milton won.

At least, with the whole team living together, they will have plenty of shoulders to cry on.

Terribly written article. So the Snelling kid made two end-of-quarter buzzer-beaters? What exactly happened in the 4th qtr. to set up the game winning three?

Yeah a win for North Gwinnett would have been nice, however for all you simple minded people that think in the now…..Stackhouse Elite will be just fine. Look to see where each of them are in their lives in 5 years, then look in the mirror and see where you are. Something to think about!!!

@ tha truth.. yes North is an AAU team however not tranfers.. To transfer means you went to one school then moved to another. They started freshman year last year @ North so technically not transfer, came straight from middle school.

I made the comment the other day about teams with credible records going down. The region tournament games are the best thing in the season. One bad night and it could be all over for those who do not secure the automatic birth by winning their region. This also cast light on the lesser covered teams as they do the unthinkable. Kudo’s to Meadowcreek, since no one is giving them any.

Technically not transfers..true, but do any of their real families live within the cluster? Where do the kids live on the weekends? The guardianship rules need to be looked into.
