Girls basketball rankings: All six No. 1 teams retain top spots heading into postseason

All six No. 1 teams in last week’s girls basketball rankings went undefeated over the past seven days and held onto the top spots heading into this week’s region tournaments.

North Gwinnett, the top-ranked team in Class AAAAAA, will begin postseason play as the No. 2 seed in the Region 7-AAAAAA tournament. Second-ranked Norcross, which split two regular-season meetings with North Gwinnett, is the top seed. Each team will need to win one game in the region tournament to qualify for state.

The other No. 1 teams are Tucker in AAAAA, Columbia in AAAA, Buford in AAA, Wesleyan in AA and Southwest Atlanta Christian in Class A.

There were four new teams in the rankings this week. Duluth replaced North Forsyth in Class AAAAAA; Forest Park replaced Flowery Branch in AAAAA; Dawson County replaced Elbert County in AAA; and Calvary Day replaced Paideia in Class A. Duluth is appearing in the top 10 for the first time this season. Forest Park, Dawson County and Calvary Day are returning to the top 10 after making appearances earlier this season.

Any update on K. Davis at Buford? I saw in a report last week that she was no longer with the team.

Do you really think Buford is worried about not having K. Davis on the team any longer? PLEASE…she is just another number on team of all star players. The way Buford recruits….this is certainly no problem….lets get real.

Hey K-man, I thought recruiting athletes was illegal in Georgia High School athletics. If this is indeed the case, the Buford coach might want to give David Boyd (Milton) a call to see if it’s worth it.

To all you Langston Hughes fans, who have you beaten all season. A soft schedule equals an early playoff exit. The 2 quality teams you played, you lost! Osborn and Hillgrove. Too much talent on that team to be playing a cup cake schedule.
