No. 5 Alpharetta has a dynamic senior duo capable of doing some damage in the postseason.
Lauren Brown and Kylee Smith combined for 49 points, fueling the first-place Raiders’ 76-59 win at out-manned Johns Creek on Tuesday.
Brown had a game-high 28, and Smith added 21. Both will play at the next level. Brown has signed with Elon, and Smith is headed to Vanderbilt.
The Raiders led by nine at intermission and maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half.
Sophomore Courtney Colavito led Johns Creek with 19 points. Colavito, generously listed at 5-foot, has been a sparkplug all season for coach Barney Marchand’s young Gladiators (7-13).
Marchand has eight sophomores and a freshman on his roster and would love to see his team pick up a win or two down the stretch to build confidence for the fledgling program.
Dani Majkowski had 14, and Allie Buchalski finished with 10 for Johns Creek.
Alpharetta (20-4) is locked in to the No. 1 seed in next week’s Region 5-AAAAAA tournament, which opens Tuesday at Alpharetta. The Raiders need a first-round in the region tournament win to secure a berth in the state tournament.
Nicole King had 10, and Brittany Outlaw added eight for Alpharetta.
