Based on Area tournaments–Social Circle should be in top 8 in AA. GAC? Wrestling is not football. To rank a team against another you need to think of a dual meet as 14 football games and understand each wrestlers record agsinst the opponent or a shared opponent, forfeit match ups, injuries and the back-up wrestler’s strength in the weight class. If you look at how Flowrestling handicapped national #1 Blair Academy, NJ vs. # 12 St. Paris Graham, OH, you may get closer than just the usual fan noise.

Eastside did not even finish in 2nd place @ 8AAAA, and they are still ranked ? Also, in AAA, are the brackets correct only 8 teams at state, the champion from each region, I guess ? When & why did this happen ?

The AAAA rankings are a joke. I wish the AJC would do a little more research before they publish rankings or just not post them at all. Heritage-Catoosa, Eastside, and Dalton didn’t even qualify for the state duals. This shows how much the AJC knows or even cares about wrestling.

How can you have teams that didn’t even make the consolation finals at area ranked above teams in the finals in AAA? BT isn’t going to Macon, Elbert didn’t finish above Oconee (2nd 4AAA), North Hall (3rd 4AAA), or Jackson (4th 4AAA); heck they were seeded 7th to start the tourney.

Whoever is putting these post area “rankings” needs to pay attention to what actually happens outside of AAAAAA and Metro Atlanta

The BEAUTY of all this is there are “playoffs” and the true champions do shine at the end of the season….

Only 4 of the 10 teams ranked by the AJC in Class A made it to the state duals. That may be partly due to the fact that GHSA stacked area four with ranked teams: 5 of the top 10. Teams like Athens Christian, St. Francis, and George Walton in Area 4 and Darlington in another area might have made it if they had been in different areas.

And for both the duals and the traditional state championships the Atlanta-area and North Georgia teams get to go down to the giant city of Macon because GHSA couldn’t find any place to hold the tournaments in little bitty Metropolitan Atlanta with its 6 million people and most of the good wrestlers. Could it have anything to do with GHSA’s headquarters being just east of Macon?

Dekalb County wrestling where are you now????? Dekalb County had some of the best wrestling programs in the state. Redan, Walker (McNair), Cedar Grove, Columbia, Towers, etc….The Redan Holiday was one of the best tourneys of the year……Times have changed in DC.

It isn’t clear whether these rankings are for Duals or Traditional team scores. The above comments about other Classifications also ring true for AAAAA. Pope is clearly the number 1 team there (and probably the best team in the State), but how can the AJC top 10 AAAAA only include Pope-1, Loganville-2, Whitewater-3, Flowery Branch-6 of the the 16 teams that are in the State Duals finals? How can Kell be ranked in the top 10 over Creekview–when Creekview defeated Kell at the Area/Region tournament? Did someone just ignore Ware County, Allatoona, Woodland, and Ola?
